David and Mama Sanchez spend the first QFT segment sharing the ways stuttering has benefited their lives. In the second QFT segment they share how their thoughts about the “benefits” of stuttering have changed over time and the factors that led to that perspective shift. Desensitization segments this episode include “The Top 10 Countries to Live In If You Stutter” and a game of “Impressions.”

David walks Mama Sanchez through his theory on how people who stutter cope with stuttering through the “6 Stages of Stuttering Identity.” Stages include Ignorance, Denial, Avoidance, Exploration, Acceptance I, and Acceptance II. He describes the typical thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in each stage and criteria for moving to the next stage. Desensitization segments this episode include “Facts Machine” and “The Top 10 Ways to Tell Children Why People Stutter.”

They also discuss the recent advent of summer camps designed for children and teens who stutter. Other segments this episode include “Stuttering IRL” and David’s much anticipated debut of the first ever “NBA All-Stutter Draft” in which the Sanchezes draft famous people who stutter for a fictitious game of basketball.

David flips through the speech file Mama Sanchez has kept all these years, filled with evaluations, doctor’s notes, IEPs, therapy ads, literature, Mama Sanchez’s personal notes, completed therapy worksheets, and more. The Sanchez’s also provide insight to their personal experiences as student and parent receiving speech therapy in the early 2000’s. Other show segments include a game of “Who Am I?” and a return of Mama’s “Facts Machine.”

Mama Sanchez shares her experiences with talking to David about stuttering throughout his childhood. She talks about following the speech therapist’s training to tell David to “slow down” and “breathe” and how recommendations for talking about stuttering have changed since David’s childhood. Also in this episode, David and Mama “Imagine If” we could always sing what we wanted to say, and they end the show with a desensitization game of “Sound Salad.”

Momma Sanchez reflects on moments from David’s childhood when he was confronted with stuttering-related challenges, including school musicals, class presentations, and running for school government. David asks what led Momma Sanchez to gently push him to do some activities (like joining sports/clubs to make new friends) and allow him to quit at other times (like picking him up from school to avoid a class presentation). The Sanchez duo try to come up with a rubric for how parents might think through these decisions with their children who stutter. ‘Tis the season for a Christmas themed episode! David asks Momma Sanchez about the time she planned to give a speech in front of her church for their ‘Christmas Cheer’ program then decided not to follow through. Afterwards, Momma Sanchez brings the Christmas spirit and sings the Top 10 Christmas Carols about Stuttering!

Old friends Konner & Tiffany Buford join the Sanchezes for the second half of the show to talk about their experiences with various stuttering support organizations, being a teenager who stutters in a 'virtual' world, and the ways Tiffany learned from Konner while becoming the amazing supporter she is today. Konner then quizzes the old heads about terms teenagers are using these days in a game called “Man, You’re Old.” In turn, Momma Sanchez asks, turn down for what????

Konner Buford is a 16 year old sophomore and attends Oak Park River Forest High School. He is a person who stutters and enjoys attending conferences for the stuttering community and their families. He is currently learning how to drive. He loves playing video games and spending time with his family. He is considering becoming a speech therapist in the future.

Tiffany Buford is a married, proud mother of a son who stutters. She is a registered nurse and currently working on a Master’s degree in Healthcare Management. She is a Medical Manager at a top Fortune 50 healthcare company. She enjoys spending quality time with her family. She is an advocate for her son and educates her friends and family about stuttering.

Episode 7 is LIVE!! Nathan & Padma join the show to help us talk about the ways serving people who stutter has reciprocal benefits for "recipients," "givers," and parents alike.

Nathan is a 22-year old person who stutters and a recent graduate of UCLA (BS, Biology, BA, Political Science) . He is pursuing a career in medicine and public health and enjoys developing public service initiatives that help persons who stutter around the world. He is the founder and CEO of the Southern California Stuttering Service which provides people who stutter with access to high-quality stuttering therapy.

Padma is a proud mother of two and a physician. She specializes in Urogynecology, and in her free time, enjoys helping to assist Nathan with his nonprofit activities for persons who stutter.
