Happy International Natural Day!

Today I am celebrating nature and nature, to me, is freedom. It's where I feel the most alive and the most peace at the same time.

It's quite a rainy day today, but I love those days. Everything slows down, the air smells fresh and it reminds me of my waterfall adventures.

These are two of my favourite waterfall memories—untouched, pure, and refreshing, just like Corona. The hike to these hidden gems were intense, but every step was worth it. That’s the beauty of nature—it turns every journey into an adventure, and the reward at the end is always worth it.

Nature is raw, unpredictable, and always finds a way to remind you just how small you are—in the best possible way. Just like Corona, it’s made from the natural world, pure and refreshing. 🌿🍺 , tell me, what does nature mean to you?

It’s a new year, and I thought this would be the perfect time to reintroduce myself!

To those who have been here for a while—thank you for sticking around and being part of my journey. And to the new faces—welcome! I’m so excited to share more adventures, more travel, and more of the things I love with all of you. May 2025 be a year full of blessings, adventure, and unforgettable experiences! 💛

Here goes: Hi, I’m iana (with an “i”) 😉, I’m 26 years old and here are 11 interesting facts about me:

1. I was attacked by a lion at age 4 (yes, really). 🦁😅
2. I have a new goal of becoming a pro padel player. 🎾
3. Not a foodie, but give me a skaaptjoppie, Rice Krispies, or toast with loads of butter any day. 😅🥩🍞
4. I grew up in the city but spent loads of weekends and holidays on our farm. That’s where my love for the outdoors started. 🏕️
5. I’m still scared of creepy crawlies in the swimming pool. 😂
6. I played cricket for the boys’ team in school, since we didn’t have a girl’s team! 🏏
7. Top of my travel list? Lapland. ❄️✨
8. Favourite colours? Pink & yellow. 💕💛
9. Favourite flower? Dahlias! 🌸
10. Wildest adventure? A 6-day 70km hike in the Drakensberg with temperatures reaching -12°C. 🏔️❄️
11. I love playing Fortnite. 🎮

Throwback to the Maldives because I literally can’t stop thinking about this place! There’s just something about the barefoot lifestyle and having the ocean right at your doorstep.

My villa at Diamonds Thudufushi was also next level—I’d roll out of bed, straight into the water, and spend the whole day there.

I hope I get to go back there someday. Missing it big time!

Throwback to the time when I went to Qatar for a lekker cruise adventure.

Even though we did not set sail to a destination, experiencing the ship and the country just before the Soccer World Cup was something for the books.

My days were jam packed with activities - From delicious restaurants on the ship, to walking with camels, to exploring the city to having fun on the ice cream deck.

The best part of this whole trip though was that I got to experience it with my cousin. Unforgettable memories made. 🫶🏼

One thing that I love about travelling is exploring waterfalls and of course swimming in them. 😄

This waterfall is definitely on the top of my list of waterfalls to visit on the Panorama Route.

If you ever find yourself on this route, don’t miss Lisbon Falls.. and if you’re up for an adventure, be on the lookout for a single track trail that’ll take you down to the bottom of the waterfall.

On Sunday I took a quick two-day trip to the Free State to visit the farm and my family. This trip was a little different than my usual travels as I spent most of my time relaxing and spending quality time with family.

On Monday afternoon we headed to the farm to take some photos and I just realised once again how special this place is to me. I was reminded once again that it is the simple things in life that matter most and bring the most joy.

Going on adventures is something I do very very frequently - You can almost say that adventure is my middle name. 😉

The Maldives has definitely been one of my favourite trips up to date. I think the main reason why is because of the outdoor lifestyle I maintained during my trip. I was constantly in the water, either snorkelling, swimming or kayaking, or playing volleyball or just walking around on the island.

This is also the perfect overseas trip for South Africans. I know there’s this stigma that the Maldives is generally expensive, but you can definitely book a pretty affordable trip.

Tonight’s post is something a bit more personal. I think it’s about time that I share a little bit of my story and how the outdoors became such a big part of my life.

It all started when my parents got married. Both of them came from farming backgrounds. When they got married, my dad wanted to buy a farm. My grandfather advised him to buy one close to my mother’s family, which was in Frankfort in the Free State.

So, in 1997 (the year before I was born), my dad bought a farm just outside of Frankfort. Even though we lived in the city, we spent numerous weekends and holidays on the farm. I always say I had the best of both worlds: growing up in the city while also having the opportunity to experience the outdoors. My love for the outdoors grew stronger and stronger, eventually leading me to make a living out of it.

I will forever be thankful to my parents for giving me this incredible opportunity.
