“And, of course, here, to start losing is difficult, but we reacted very well.

“The first 30 minutes, we were more or less feeling comfortable and feeling confidence to continue in our gameplan and try to get something.

“After the red card, it was more difficult, of course. Maybe it’s unfair, the decision. Maybe it is a red card, maybe not, but we have VAR to try to take time with the decision.

“The only person who can take time is the referee, and he decided red card.

"We have to be positive, and we have to understand our way.

“Of course, we are doing this process, and now Monday, we are against Brighton at home.

“The table is very tight, we have a lot of teams within a few points [of each other], and of course, on Monday is our challenge again at home, at Villa Park.

“Try to get the atmosphere we want to try create with our supporters, and play, and to enjoy there, and try to win.”

Disappointing/frustrating loss. Lapses in our defensive focus for all 3 goals, & although we recovered well after early setback & felt we could still get something, was ultimately a long road back after Duran's red. Poor after high of last weekend.

As well as Tielemans, thought Kamara, Onana & McGinn were brilliant too. Midfield looked strong, aggressive and worked tirelessly with discipline to lead us to the win. Excellent shift from all, great balance of defensive tenacity & technical quality. Loved it.

Thought Jhon Duran & Morgan Rogers were excellent yday.

One of, if not most, complete, all-round displays from JD. Goal aside, hold-up/link-up play + work-rate all on point.

We are feeling strong, here we played the first half very well, in the second half we kept possession more and getting in the box to score the second goal, we imposed and dominated more."

On balancing game time for Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran: "We are in the process with the players, keeping their consistency of playing. Jhon Duran today played fantastic, Watkins is fantastic as well, very important for us. Of course you have to work with both strikers, sometimes they play together. I am very happy with them.

On Morgan Rogers: "He played fantastic today, he is very important. Through him we are getting the performance back because he links strikers with midfielder and wingers. Today he was fantastic in the second half, connecting with strikers and scoring the goals. He has to add goals to his numbers, and today he was fantastic.

"We played 90 minutes in the way we were expecting. They were imposing and dominant in the first half, more than we wanted. Then in the second half we dominated more, avoiding their press, I think we played better. The second half we were playing with confidence, we imposed and we decided to win through domination of them."

One Villa change, Amadou Onana in for Diego Carlos and so a subsequent reshuffle in set-up. Good to see Mings and Bailey on the bench.

We were trying to stop them in the high press but they are not pushing up and we are more or less doing this in the beginning. When we scored they pushed more and made changes. We tried to be consistent and then we did not do that in the last 20 minutes and we conceded the goals - one offside - but if we do that we won't be in the top eight.

"We are in the process of building the team and we are trying to be competitive and consistent. Today was a key moment because we are going to fight with them for the opportunity to be in the top eight. Today they got advantage and it is our challenge.

"We lost the control completely in the final 20 mins because they started pushing more & made some changes.

"We are in a process. We will analyse first 70 minutes and also the last 20 minutes and where we have to improve the team is very clear to me."

So, so poor in that last 10-15 mins. Solid performance prior to that, big Emi Martinez save, Jhon Duran finish, in control and a really positive feeling from the display as we look to be getting back to our previous levels.

Shambles defensively after the warning from the disallowed goal, don't really know how we've managed to throw it all away.

Felt like we've taken important steps forward over last four games in terms of performance. That sense of control, structure & playing Emery way has started to come back. Bitterly disappointed our good work tonight has all been undone w/ woeful end to this game.

Decent half, albeit have lacked quality in final third. Defensively disciplined/organised, patience in possession to probe. Need better creativity to unlock the game & get that crucial breakthrough. Boubacar Kamara excellent. All to play for 2nd half.
