The week between Christmas and New Year’s can feel, well, blah.🫤

The gifts are all opened. The decorations start coming down. And the magic is quickly fading.

And it can be easy to slip into those post-holiday blues.

But did you know you can keep that magic going (even if your tree is packed away)?

I like to choose magic as often as I can by asking myself:

✨”How can I savor this moment?”

✨”What’s my favorite part about this moment?”

✨”How is this magical?”

When you ask yourself the right questions, it focuses your brain on SEARCHING for the magic.

Then you find it.

So try it out. See where it leads you this week.

Find the magic. Savor the season.

I absolutely LOVE a good Q&A episode, and this one won’t disappoint!

From learning how to actually rest to decisions about leaving your job, we are diving into some of the most common questions I get asked from other OB/GYNs in this week’s podcast episode.

During training, we are taught to make everyone around us happy.

The patients. The attendings. The admin.

And somewhere along the way, we forget how important it is to make sure WE are also happy. We forget that what we want matters, too.

You are a badass doc, but more importantly you are also a badass human.

Don’t forget that.

It’s hard to be an OB/GYN right now.

Something is always being asked of us.

We are expected to neglect our own needs.

We give our time and energy to others.

Then we go home and the same is true.

We like to think we are handling it all, but in reality, we are frustrated, stressed and burnt-out.

I get it. I’ve been there too.

That’s where I was a few years ago: frustrated, burnt-out, and ready to leave medicine all together.

I figured out how to change all of that, and now I teach OB/GYN’s how to do the same.

➡️I want your days at work to be fun, and full of flow and ease.
➡️I want your evenings to be restful, present and rejuvenating.
➡️I want you to be more connected with your family and friends.
➡️I want you to never struggle with charts and portal messages again.

While it may seem like an impossible goal right now, this is exactly what The Happy Gynecologist Group is designed to help you achieve-RISK FREE.

If you show up and do the work and get coached, but still feel like it didn’t work for you, then I will give you your money back.

Best case scenario: You change your life.
Worst case scenario: You get 6 months of free coaching.

Go to coach-miles.com/happy (link in bio) to grab your spot. Doors are closing tonight, so don’t miss out!

Let’s find your inner Happy Gynecologist again together.

One of the things I know about being an OB/GYN is that it can be a lonely journey.

Many of us have family and friends who are supportive, but they don’t always get what we go through.

One of the reasons I wanted to add community inside the Group was because I didn’t want you to feel alone, like you were never seen or heard.

I wanted members to be around other OB/GYNs who understand the s**t-show cases we see, the endless tasks we face, and the pressure to appear perfect.

So many OB/GYNs that I work with will tell me:

🐝“Until now, I didn’t realize other OB/GYN’s had the same problems I had. I thought everyone else just had it figured out.”

🐝“I thought I was the only one who struggled to transition from work to home”

🐝“I thought I was the only one that worried about complications and someone thinking I’m a bad doctor.”

Community is important.

Belonging is important.

And inside the Happy Gynecologist Group, you belong.

You are seen. You are heard.

And your community is here for you.

We are here for you Doc, waiting with open arms.

You deserve to be cared for too, Friend.

Inside The Happy Gynecologist Group, I teach you how to take back control of your own life, so you can thrive as an OB/GYN. So you can thrive despite Medicine’s bu****it.

Because this is what Medicine has taught us to do:

Trade our lives and our own health so that others can have better.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

In fact, it CAN’T be that way if we want to continue doing this long term.

👉How many times have you delayed peeing to get s**t done at work?

👉How many times have you gone all day in clinic without stopping to eat anything?

👉How often have you taken care of everyone else and then had nothing left to give yourself?

If you continue sacrificing your body and your mind so that others can do a little better, what will be left of you in 1 year? 5 years?

It’s time to stop trading your health and well-being so that others can be happy.

Because you matter, too.

Enrollment is currently open for the January Happy Gynecologist Group. To save your spot, follow the link in my bio or go to coach-miles.com/happy.

I’ll see you inside, Doc.

Rushing, charting, delivering, parenting, operating, teaching...

All. The. Things.

Trying to stay afloat.

Trying to overcome the mountains of laundry and charts.

Trying to find balance.

Trying to keep everyone happy.

Trying to keep everyone safe.

Trying to not lose your s**t.

I see you.

Because I’ve been you.

I was so burnt-out that I wanted to run away from it all....quit and never look back.

I felt overwhelmed and stressed and beat down.

I tried everything to feel better. I changed jobs. I got a scribe. I took less call.

But I still felt the same...

When I learned the secret to getting out of burnout, I finally realized why nothing I had done up until that point had helped.

I also immediately realized: THIS IS THE ANSWER. AND I HAVE TO SHARE IT.

So I developed a process of coaching specific to burnout and specific to this crazy life we lead as OB/GYNs.

This process is designed to help you find more balance, more fulfillment, and more fun in your life.

It helps you have fun at work again, and actually enjoy your downtime when you get home.

It helps you stop feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, and puts you back in control of your own life.

And I want you to join me. I want YOU to be a Happy Gynecologist again.

Join me in the January cohort of The Happy Gynecologist Group.

06/12/2024

As OB/GYNs, we strive for excellence. We care for our patients, we do our best, and we give it our all.

But then a complication or unexpected outcome happens….

It doesn’t matter if it was out of our control or if we did everything by the book, that sinking feeling of shame often still creeps in.

It comes with telling ourselves things like:
💭 “I should’ve done better.”
💭 “I’m not a good doctor.”
💭 “I failed.”

Shame whispers that we are the mistake. It urges us to stay quiet, to carry this burden alone.

But the thing about shame is that it doesn’t consider the facts of the situation. It is only coming from the meaning we assign to those facts.

In episode 218, “Shame Fish,” I share a story about my recent experience with shame, and I dive into the exact steps we can take when this feeling arises.

02/12/2024

As OB/GYNs, we are trained to hold ourselves to an impossible standard, because that’s what medicine demands of you.

In med school and residency, we were taught to believe that if we weren’t perfect, it could cost someone their life.

But what happens when we are human? When complications arise, even when you did everything by the book?

If you’re like so many of us, you blame yourself. You carry the weight of every outcome, every decision, every “what if”, and you beat yourself up for not being good enough. For failing.

This internal pressure to always get it right is exhausting. It’s isolating. And it’s unsustainable.

Yet, so many OB/GYNs are silently suffering, thinking this is just the way it has to be.

But it doesn’t.

Inside The Happy Gynecologist Group, we tackle this head-on.

This group coaching program is designed specifically for OB/GYNs who are tired of feeling like they aren’t good enough, tired of feeling shameful or like they are failing.

This is a space where you can are surrounded by others who truly get it—without judgment, without fear.

And it’s where you’ll finally stop measuring your worth by impossible standards and start experiencing the joy and fulfillment that brought you to medicine in the first place.

You deserve that, my friend.

Hi, I’m Amanda and I’m a recovering Control Enthusiast....

That’s like a Control Freak, but it sounds nicer.

👀I like order.
👀I like things to go my way.
👀I like things to have predictability.

And there’s nothing wrong with that....
...EXCEPT when I spend time and energy trying to control things that I can’t control.
..EXCEPT when the things/people I’m trying to control don’t do what I want and I end up frustrated and overwhelmed and emotionally exhausted.

Often in our quest for more control, we end up creating even more chaos.

The reason behind wanting this control is vital.

We humans try to control things typically to feel better and avoid certain emotions.

Because it feels better to “be in control.”

Come on, “out of control” is a scary place to be for a Control Enthusiast!

Where do you find yourself being a “Control Enthusiast”? Is it serving you?

❤️/Amanda

22/11/2024

Given the current political climate here in the US, many of us OB/GYNs are feeling the anxiety, worry, and stress about the uncertainty we are facing.

Our brains are wired to seek certainty and control, especially when we feel vulnerable or unsure.

But the truth is, the future is full of unknowns, no matter how much we plan.

When our brains can’t answer the question of “what’s going to happen next?” we have two options:

1. We can ruminate and worry, trying to think up all the potential problems that need solved

2. We can ask ourselves, “What’s the next best step?”

We may not know all the steps ahead of us, but we CAN figure out what that next best step is for us.

And in this week’s episode of The Happy Gynecologist Podcast, I’m helping you do exactly that.

In episode 159, “The Next Best Steps,” we are diving into how you can ground yourself and be okay, even when everything around you feels impossible.

18/11/2024

Over the years, I’ve gotten into the habit of taking a picture of little things that make me smile throughout the day.

99% of the time, no one sees these pictures because they are typically of boring, seemingly mundane things, like my coffee or my favorite comfy chair.

Other times, it’s a picture that I go back to over and over again. Like a picture of my kids, or this one of my cow IUD 😂.

But I take these pictures for two reasons:

1. To help me remember the good things in life, to help me remember the Happy.

2. When I see something that makes me smile and brings me a little spark of joy, taking a picture of it helps me slow down and focus on it a little longer. It makes me take a little more notice of it.

Our brains are hardwired to only see the negatives in life, to only see the problems.

But when we make the effort to capture the small, joyful moments, we can retrain our brains to focus on the good.

Something I teach all of my clients inside The Happy Gynecologist Group is how to enjoy their lives more, despite all the challenges they face.

And these simple snapshots serve as gentle reminders that even in the hard times, beauty and happiness are always there—we just have to slow down long enough to see them.

What are your main priorities in life? What do you really value?

When you are 90 years old and looking back on your life, what do you want to remember?

If you had to make a list of these things, what would be on that list?

This week on the podcast, I’m sharing one of my MVP episodes, “Top 5 Things in Life,” where I am walking you through one of the most powerful exercises you can do for yourself.

After a recent loss in my family, I’ve been thinking about the important things in life, and this episode seemed poignant to share again.💜

🎧So grab a pen and paper and go listen to episode 215, “MVP Episode [Top 5 Things in Life]”!

We are going to change it, one doc at a time.

One doc at a time, gaining the awareness of how medicine conditioned them to think in a way that is harmful.

And then that doc choosing to stand up and say “I’m not ok with this.”

Because we deserve better.
