Reading, writing and early math skills for ages 4 to 6.
Note to parents and preschool teachers. The goal of education for children aged 4 to 6 is to help them acquire some of the fundamental skills that are necessary to go to school. At this stage of their development, teaching is aimed primarily at developing manual and calligraphic dexterity, allowing them to distinguish basic geometric figures, introducing them to the world of written language, preparing them for math and logical thinking, as well as teaching them to use the acquired knowledge to understand their surroundings. This educational coloring workbook proposes several hundred attractive exercises and tasks which will give children a head start at school. This friendly, beautifully published and full of fun surprises workbook is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to tracing lines. Step by step—starting from straight lines to more complicated patterns consisting of straight lines and curved ones—children will develop manual dexterity necessary to start learning to write. The second chapter teaches children to differentiate between basic geometric figures and recognize them in their closest environment. The third chapter leads to the recognition of letters of the alphabet, and also, through games and spontaneous discoveries, even to the reading of their first short words. The fourth chapter allows children to gain exposure to numbers from 1 to 10, to count the elements of a set, and to perform basic additions in practical situations. The fifth chapter introduces the young student to understand his or her surroundings by assigning meaning to objects in space, deter-mining their location, and comparing them by size, weight, or purpose. The last chapter is a compilation of valuable exercises for the development of children's logical reasoning skills, both abstract thinking—such as the construction of logical sequences—and find-ing their way in real life situations—such as using the concept of time sequence. This educational coloring workbook was developed in such a way that any child can work almost independently, with little intervention from parents or kindergarten teachers. However, the help of an adult remains necessary. The teacher's task will, of course, be to read instructions and guidelines accompanying the exercises and also to explain the educational themes around which the book and its chapters are organized. The more a child learns from an adult about the importance of various skills such as writing, reading, geometry, mathematics, logical thinking and understanding of his/her environment, the more interested and engaged he/she will become.
