PDP NDIYA/ IKOT IDAHA WARD 9 IN IKONO LGA SETS UP DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE TO ADDRESS MEMBERS' MISCONDUCT

Peoples Democratic Party members in Ndiya/Ikot Idaha Ward 9 are taking a stand against misconduct within their ranks. Following concerns over an illegal meeting and divisive social media posts that threatened ward unity, Ward Chairman Elder Pius Sylvester Udo called a crucial gathering at his residence on October 16, 2024. The aim was clear: to tackle issues of indiscipline within the party and promote solidarity, advancement, and harmony.

Elder Udo kicked off the meeting by thanking party officers and elders for their efforts in securing a recent electoral victory. He lamented online reports of a rogue meeting chaired by Mr. Luke Essiet and Mr. Ubong Otung, labeling their actions as harmful attempts to sow discord within the ward. Chief Inem Inyangette, Chairman of the Ndiya/Ikot Idaha Elders Forum, backed Udo's stance, denouncing divisive practices that could jeopardize party unity and progress.

Chief Inyangette reaffirmed his leadership position by presenting a communique issued at his installation, and was supported by ex-Ward Chairman Sgt. Samuel Akpan rtd, who deprecated the destabilizing behavior witnessed. Other meeting attendees, including former Councilor Hon. Aniekan Asuquo and Elders Godwin Okoko and David Bill, called for swift disciplinary measures to deter such acts in the future and reinforce unity.

Elder Okon Ofiokidem praised Chief Inyangette for his community contributions and recognized the state governor's dedication to inclusive governance. Hon. Idotenyin Etokobong urged members to bridge divides and promote peace, emphasizing the necessity of imposing sanctions for the unauthorized party meeting and online provocations.

The Ward Chairman was tasked with forming a seven-member Disciplinary Committee in line with the PDP Constitution's Section 10, Subsection 2. This committee, set to investigate the issue, will summon key figures like Mr. Luke Essiet, Mr. Ubong Otung, and Mr. Godwin Udoudo Ebong for scrutiny. Elder Udo pledged to establish the committee promptly, underscoring the ward's commitment to addressing internal issues decisively.

Hon. Luke Eshiet called for the implementation of a reward system for loyal party members, while the Ward Chairman - Elder Pius Udo praised Governor Umo Eno’s leadership, citing increased party returns as proof of a job well done.

Ukai Chief Inyangette, a key figure in the campaign, outlined strategic steps being implemented at the unit level to ensure a landslide victory, stating that Ward 9—known as the "Vote Basket of Ikono"—was already at a 70% advantage and would soon secure the remaining 30% through ongoing efforts.

Nkereuwem Akpan, the Election Coordinator / Campaign Driver for Ward 9, echoed this confidence, declaring, "Ward 9 will deliver a win for Engr. Oto-Obong as Chairman and Emem Frank as Councilor."

PRESS RELEASE BY INTERFAITH MEDIATION CENTRE ON THE PLANNED NATIONAL PROTEST 12TH SEPTEMBER, 2024.

Ladies and Gentlemen of The Press

It has become imperative at this point of our nations history and the prevailing precarious situation to address you on our stand on the subject matter.

You will recall that a few weeks ago there was a national protest regarding hunger, high cost of living and insecurity resulting from stringent measures taken by the present administration President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in her efforts to better economy. These steps taken has brought untold hardship on the citizens both big and small.

As conflict mediators and religious leaders working with the people on issues bothering on peaceful coexistence, we have observed the trend of happenings and ventilation of anger by various groups on the issues superimposing them on our conflict early warning filtering screens, analyzing and mapping the generated materials we conclude if these are not responded to early can lead to violence and breakdown of law and order in Nigeria.

With these backgrounds and about three decades of pragmatic conflict mitigation in and outside the shores of Nigeria we wish to caution as follows

It is an indisputable fact that Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa. Hence her stability is the stability of Africa.

It is difficult to manage and control crowd around and during protests, the recent experience in the country is a clear attestation to this assertion.

It is known fact that most protests are hijacked by mischievous people and are turned into looting, destruction of innocent people's property and even leading to killing in some of the protests in the country.

It is also a fact that protests if not organized in most cases usually escalate into various kind of conflicts; hence religious conflict cannot be ruled out given our tendencies and sensitivity to religion and as one of the most religious sensitive nation in the world. We fear that some individuals or groups can give it that coloration. No nation in the world can handle refuges from Nigeria if things goes out of hand.

It is stated in our scriptures; that God Almighty will abhors anyone who will cost violence and death of innocent lives.

Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'as (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Prophet said, "A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands the people are safe; and a Muhajir (Emigrant) is the one who refrains from what Allah has forbidden".
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Therefore, from the forgoing and after listening to contributors on our radio and television programmes, weighing on the scale of those cautionary statements against any form of protests at the moment, we will follow where the pendulum swing to add our voices to say Nigeria cannot survive on protest but continue to explore dialogue and prayers.

May the Almighty God heal our Land the Holy Bible say: if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allah is severe in penalty. (8:25) - Al-Anfal

"This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. "Psalm 18:30

"Help one another in acts of righteousness and piety, and do not help one another in sin and transgression." Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:2)

We hereby use this medium, by calling on our government at all levels to apply the medium of dialogue to engage with all relevant stakeholders, thereby listening to the yearnings of the citizens, which we believe will promotes peace and stability for the common good of all.

May peace prevail in Nigeria!

GOVERNOR ENO: A BEACON OF HOPE AND UNITY FOR A'IBOM

It never occurred to many, even the best political pundits, that a man who was not in the political organogram or permutations could navigate the state’s administrative affairs so adeptly. Identified through keen attitudinal evaluation, repeated unpretentious shows of sincerity, vigor, truth, and humility, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, embodies these virtues.

The Bible admonishes, “For those who want to worship the Lord must worship in holiness and in truth” (John 4:24). This divine order is best characterized in Governor Umo Eno’s dispositions.

Initially disbelieved by almost all opposition camps, he was underscored in performance even before being handed the state's executive baton. Media writers painted various pictures of him, emphasizing his words, addresses, public responses, and opinions, all authored with a subtle air of humility, meekness, and brotherhood.

Poised for the unity of his fatherland, and clothed with the zeal never to let go of his passion to repair and address the cracks across political walls, Governor Eno’s call to all opposition leaders to "Come, let us work together" was not just a verbal beautification but a fact. His aim was to reconstruct the fence of political division through collective bargaining to see a new Akwa Ibom arise.

The past 365 days in office as the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State stand as a testament to Governor Umo Eno’s character. Impactful, peaceful, and inclusive, his administration's crux is humanity and humility. These elements have reinvigorated the long-expected era anticipated by the people. Those who doubted his performance have lost count of the celebrations, accolades, thumbs-ups, and goodwill across divides in response to His Excellency's practical multi-purpose development strides.

As Governor Eno embarks on his second year in office, there is an abundance of assurance, rebuilt faith, rekindled hope, and unwavering trust across the hearts of citizens in preparedness to embrace the ARISE agenda for a beautiful tomorrow for all Akwa Ibom citizens.

Indeed, His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, is a gift to Akwa Ibom. Let us join hands to build one united state devoid of ethnicity, tribe, language, or race, holding on to our collective diversity as a source of our strength.

IKONO/INI SUPPLEMENTARY ELECTION: WHY IT HAS TO BE DR. GLORY EDET

Glory Edet, Ph.D, with so much passion to serve, since her involvement in politics has demonstrated effectiveness and efficiency to the admiration of many.

Eka Onomkpoinam as fondly called by women across all strata, has greatly utilized her God given intellect, dexterity, and interpersonal nous to the service of humanity.
Dr. Edet having proven her worth beyond reasonable doubt, among her contemporaries, has demonstrated excellent interpersonal relationship with Akwa Ibom indigenes and in turn written her name on the sands of times.

📖 Education Sector:
Being an educaionist, Dr Glory Edet understands the importance of education, hence made a vow to ensure that many youths are taken out of the streets through quality education. Currently, Dr. Edet has over 170 students benefiting yearly from her scholarship project for students in both secondary and tertiary institutions within and outside the state.

As a former staff adviser of the University of Uyo, Dr Edet for several years, has bankrolled tuition fees of many students studying in that institution, awarding scholarships and grants, with student doctors being huge beneficiaries of her scholarship; A gesture that clearly demonstrates her love and commitments towards education which is unrivalled in this clime.
That love and huge investment has paid off as the medical students awarded Scholarship including the one she adopted as a daughter have all made good exploits in their respective clinical examination with a renewed hope of becoming doctors someday. With this, Dr Edet has restored hope to their families, the LGA, State, Country and even the world at large and this is why She is generally known as a good person.

Her fair distribution of these scholarship shows a detribalized leader who sees the unity of Ikono/Ini more than tribal sentiments. Taking the medical scholarship for instance; in Ikono/Ini Federal constituency, Iton odoro ward 4 for Ikono and Asanting utid Ikpe ward 7 for Ini merited and she handed to them respectively clearly demonstrating transparency which makes pundits describe her as the Hope and GLORY of Ikono/Ini,not to mention other intervention in Primary/Secondary Schools, helping out youth Corp members, paying induction fees and yearly purchasing hundreds of JAMB forms for Ikono/Ini Students to acquire University education, training them in ICT thereby making all of them computer literate and providing white board markers and other learning aids.

🏥health Care Delivery:
Dr. Glory Edet was described by many professional medical doctors in the State as "friend to patients".
She merited that name because of her frequent visits to hospitals to pay bills of patients, pregnant mothers after delivery and paying for expensive surgeries. A doctor at the Ibom Specialist Hospital, confirmed that all the bills she comes to pay which runs into millions of naira does not include any of her personal relatives; Clearly demonstrating a woman who sees the health of her constituents as a priority. She has over times sponsored Surgeries for women with breast cancer, organized health awareness campaign in many villages in her federal constituency, distribute sanitary pads to young school girls and actively involved in a healthy living lifestyle through advocacy, a feat she started as the Honorable Commissioner for women affairs and Social Welfare and sustain till date.

🏜Agriculture, Human Capacity Development and SMEs:
The immediate past Commissioner as a public servant in charge of the ministry of Agriculture successfully interpreted the vision of her former boss, the immediate past Governor, His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel and has given the state a new phase of life in the area of agriculture. A look at the state today, compared to what was obtainable in the past shows a place where commercial and subsistent agriculture thrives robustly. Farmers in the State today have benefitted from trainings, seedlings, stems and other farm inputs to increase productivity and yield for food sufficiency.
During her time at the Ministry, she attracted (through the collaboration with Skye Bank (now Polaris Bank) and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Anchor Borrowers Scheme) Cassava farmers and mobilization of 5,000 farmers for the scheme, as well as creation of 15,000 jobs (downstream) and about 45,000 jobs (upstream) through value addition; Cat fish farmers and mobilization of 2, 000 cat fish farmers for the scheme as well as creation of 6,000 jobs (downstream) and 18, 000 (upstream) through value addition and the training of enumerators on the use of modern electronic gadgets for data capturing and field mapping under the RIFAN/CBN/ and the Akwa Ibom State Rice Anchor Borrowers Scheme.

Before she resigned her position as Hon. Commissioner to represent the Federal Constituency, 120 Hectares of rice farm was cultivated in Ibiono Ibom local government area and 33 processing sheds and assets constructed under FADAMA III + AF program for the farmers.

Also, 241 Cooperative Groups on agriculture was formed to open more channels of communication between the farmers and the government.
In a bid to take unemployed youths off the streets, 300 Participants were trained under Graduate Unemployed Youths/Women Support Scheme (FADAMA GUYS) and 249 beneficiaries given grants in the tune of N95,384,000.

Dr Edet was also instrumental in the construction of Agricultural Equipment Hiring Enterprise (AEHE) Centre at Awa Iman, Onna L.G.A; Ploughing and Ridging of 130 hectares by AEHE; Acquisition of Tractors with Accessories and 14 Implements; Harvesting of 330 Hectares of Cassava cultivated; Development of breeder farms; Successful training of 10 Akwa Ibom State Animal Scientists on Goat Multiplication and Insemination Programme in South Africa, and the Cultivation of paddocks and perimeter fencing at the Goat Multiplication Centre in Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai L.G.A.
Moreso, 33 processing boreholes and reticulation was completed under her watch across the state, 1 borehole and reticulation completed for Agricultural Equipment Hiring Enterprise (AEHE), Hosting and Training of Farmers (Training of Trainers, ToT) on Vegetable Production, as well as partnership with Ibom Agricon Rice for the production of Ibom Family Rice in Ini LGA.
Furthermore, 10 hectares of land was dedicated to the cultivation of vegetables like tomato at Ekeya, Okobo LGA, under the Akwa Ibom Enterprise Employment Scheme (AKEES).

One of Dr Edet's biggest agricultural renaissance story thereby putting Gov. Emmanuel’s administration as the best in Agricultural Sector is the Green House Farm which has today berthed the indigenous production of tomatoes, carrots, cabbage, onions, cowpea beans, lettuce and other crops to aid food sufficiency in the state.

It was for this laudable initiative that the former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo noted at one of his visits that the state is making landmark achievements in agricultural production and that if such projects are multiplied across the country, Nigeria would have an edge in food production rather than depend on importation from other countries.

Meanwhile, a 10-metric-tons Cocoa Fermentation and Drying Plant was established in Ini LGA, with an MoU signed with Contec Global for the cultivation of improved variety of Banana for export on 2,000 hectares of land and the establishment of 300 hectares Bio Safe (Organic) Agricultural Hub, not to mention the St Gabriel’s coconut factory which is budding to spring as the leading producer of coconut in few years from now.
In all these, Ikono/Ini indegenes takes the priority using the Fadama Microfinance soft loan as an example.
Dr Edet is making periodic empowerment easy ranging from sewing machines, hair dressing machines, Salon cars, motorcycles, mini buses, to mention but a few.

🛣Infrastructural Development:
Dr Edet successfully built, furnished and handed over a two bedroom flat apartment to a widow of her constituents which was commissioned by the wife of the immediate past Governor, Her Excellency, Dr.(Mrs.) Martha Udom Emmanuel.

The Utuenikang Ikono-Ini also got approval of sites as handed to her by The Vice chancellor of UNIUYO, Prof Nyaudo Ndaeyo for massive construction of 150 sitter classroom blocks in the University of Uyo for the students of the faculty of Agriculture where she worked as a lecturer before her political career.

Dr Edet facilitated the construction of Ekoi Bridge, attracted road construction to Ini Local Government Area in addition to grading of roads in the area including the long forgotten Ukwok road.
She has acquired and furnished ward offices to standard across all wards in Ini LGA for the Peoples Democratic Party. She has also sponsored the building of a befitting cenotaph for Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration at the Council Headquarters of Ini LGA.

The story of Dr Edet is a feat made possible by commitment, humility and competence.

Therefore, it is safe to say that Dr Edet is nature's gift to the Ntippe Ibibio, a grassroots mobilizer, admired across background and political lines as she goes out of her way to better the condition of her people.

A vote for Dr. Glory Edet at the upcoming supplementary election scheduled for February 3rd, is a vote for a better and more fruitful Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency.

Let's make the right decision today
Let God's Glory be done in Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency

The Time is Now!

Ikono/Ini, Vote PDP!
