The glow up is real! Happy Pride Y’all
We believe in the power of story to end the stigma of medical cannabis.

Our mission at Conversations with Maryjane is to provide the platform for The Medical Cannabis Community to stand up and share their hero’s journey.
The glow up is real! Happy Pride Y’all
The American criminal justice system holds almost 2.3 million people in 1,833 state prisons, 110 federal prisons, 1,772 juvenile correctional facilities, 3,134 local jails, 218 immigration detention facilities, and 80 Indian Country jails as well as in military prisons, civil commitment centers, state psychiatric hospitals, and prisons in the U.S. territories.
Join me and my great friend Amanda tomorrow night on Clubhouse as we continue our ongoing conversation about the prison system and exactly what the cannabis industry’s role in working towards a fair and equitable is.

Every 21 days, I am a mess. Mentally I’m all over the place and physically I am in pain and throwing up. I am not myself.
It’s no mistake that the female cannabis plant is the only one to provide healing medicine. Join us as we chat about how cannabis is perfect for the female body.

The first time I chatted with Ariana was the summer of 2018. She was one of the first features in my magazine. I remember being in awe of her then; she was confident, smart, and going places.
Check out the amazing advice she gave us in 2018...
“Don’t listen to anybody. You know what’s best for you; worry about yourself! Don’t feel ashamed of your cannabis use. Definitely don’t hide it and be yourself if you know it improves your life!”
Join us Saturday January 9 at 2 pm on Clubhouse as we catch up and share the wisdom of The 💚
The immense gratitude I feel to be sitting here in an old red ball gown smoking a blunt at the end of 2020.
I breathe in the goodness of this year...I breathe out the bu****it!
Happy New Year Ya’ll!
When I am shopping for I can guarantee that someone will ask me “are you throwing a party?” “Do you run a day care?” My simple response, I am making lunches for the hungry. While most of the comments are positive there is always a person or two who likes to remind me “that they don’t deserve to be helped or loved because they could possibly have an addiction.”
Two thoughts go through my mind...
First. What substance would I choose to numb the terror of sleeping on a street at night. What drug would I freely take to cause the nightmares to stop for just a minute. What would I do to numb the constant r**e of women on the street?
Second. Every addict I have met was missing something...love (this doesn’t mean that people don’t love them, they don’t feel that love because of trauma) People turn to substances because at some point they no longer love themselves. So the act of withholding love and kindness is the exact problem.
Being a child of addict I know how hard it is to witness someone destroy their life. The courage it takes to love someone as they nod out. I know first hand my Mom hated who she was more than anyone could. She needed to be met with love.
I would imagine that as winter continues, as the pandemic continues to cause job loss, as people suffer loss of family we will see a rise in addiction.
If you or someone you love is facing addiction please reach out to me so I can share resources!
**I am not advocating enabling addicts, I am advocating unconditional love and kindness.**
It was a year of my life...but it was everything! Colleen walked down the stairs with a big smile and she handed me a huge wrapped gift. When I saw what it was, every emotion flooded over me.
These covers were made of my dreams. It was such a thrill to publish MJM. It was the start of it all!
I can’t stop staring at it 💚
This is the type of news that makes you stop and think about the power we have as The People. When we all come together with a single goal great things can be accomplished. While there are many still sitting in prison this should give us hope as to what we can accomplish in the cannabis community 💚💚

I entered the cannabis industry 3 years ago and knew from the first event we hosted, I had found my community. I felt free to be me and learned to love myself. What makes this nomination extremely special is that it is for being me... and nothing else!
Thanks for putting this on!

Episode 26 - Ed Weidenfeld - CEO of District Cannabis
Ed found the power of cannabis as a result of a Parkinson’s diagnosis. Like most individuals treating conditions, Ed needed a particular strain, in a particular dose, all the while being a clean medicine. Out of an understanding of what the medical cannabis patient needs, District Cannabis was born.
However, Ed has a past and it involves Ronald Reagan, a name that causes more than just an eyebrow raise to anyone who knows even a little about the War on Drugs.
While I am left with more questions about Ed and his thoughts on what fair and equitable future in cannabis looks like and what the license holder’s role is in correcting the past and the damage, I felt like this was a great start.
This interview is a great look into what a license holder thinks the place of “the legacy market” is in the now “legalized market.” “They” belong in the ancillary businesses. From their mouths they will say “we are only where we are today because of them,” and yet, that is not reflected in their actions.
This is not the first time I have heard this sentiment. I took a class fall of 2018 at AACC. The class was Cannabis and Entrepreneurship. There, week after week I listened to license holders echo a very similar sentiment. You can listen to old podcasts of them saying exactly how they feel about us.
I am hopeful that Ed is one of those true cases of a changed heart that leads to greater action.
Enjoy the conversation.

I never take for granted the courage it takes for someone to share their story with us. The fear they face as they stand there, just as themselves. Thank you for giving me a safe space to share mine!

Where’s my Blunt - Judges
Have you ever thought about the power a Judge has over your life?
That thought has never crossed my mind, and how I‘ve traditionally picked the judges I‘ve voted for proves that!
After listening to a podcast full of stories from The Innocence Project, I made a commitment to research the judges I was going to vote for this year.
That promise to myself led me on a 4-week learning journey on Judges. From how Judges become Judges, to the philosophy they use to rule from the bench, to how easy it is to be a bad judge and no one knows. As with learning anything new, I expected it to be confusing and take some time, but I was shocked at just how hard, confusing, mind numbing, and infuriating figuring it out would be.
I really think it was designed to confuse the s**t out of you, so you don’t do anything.
Here is my very elementary attempt to explain the importance of Judges... PS I got a C in government! 🤣
📖Maryland judges spreadsheet
Feel free to browse around the Maryland judges spreadsheet and review my notes from the research I have completed on the Maryland Judges running during the November election.
A few notes about the spreadsheet.
✏️It’s a living a breathing document so I will make changes and updates as I go along
✏️It’s not complete. As I mention in the podcast there isn’t much info on the judges.
✏️Did I get something wrong? Let me know and I will fix it.
✏️Have information that isn’t listed on the spreadsheet? I’ll add it!
✏️There is one master list, but the detailed information is on the county tabs.

Episode 23 - Otha Smith III CEO and Founder of Tetragram
The magic of cannabis comes when you figure out what combinations of terpenes and cannabinoids work for you.
It was a few months into my cannabis journey when someone taught me the art of journaling. I just used my notepad on my phone and while it worked, I was missing important information like Batch Number and a picture of the flower. Tetragram does exactly what my notepad can’t!

Amazing things happen when Black Women Lead!
It’s hard to write something about a protest when it’s the last thing we should have to be doing. Our team discussed last week the mixed emotions of sadness, pride, anger, joy and other emotions while putting together an event.
It’s unlike throwing a party where a team high fives at a job well done; instead, you walk away sad that you even had to throw this event to begin with.
When we started planning the March 4 | Stand 4 Breonna Taylor protest, it quickly went from a Baltimore only to a national idea. Under Zen’s leadership, our small group started to get the word out and plan the March.
With the help of some amazing volunteers Saturday was beautiful. Breonna’s name echoed up Charles Street.
Musicians filled The Dell. Sharing their own stories of police brutality and the art they created after it.
Yesterday we woke up to find out Austin marched with us for Breonna. We will not stop!

In episode 1, I chat with Tracey Miller, EVP of Peake ReLeaf and President of MDMDA.
Before speaking with Tracey, I spend some time clarifying the vision of Conversations with Maryjane. I share with you my thoughts on this very special moment in time, and what role I feel the cannabis industry has in undoing the war on drugs that has destroyed Black and Brown communities.
Finally, I share the story of Micheal Thompson. A gentlemen sitting in prison in Michigan. He has been in prison for 25 years, of his 40-60 year sentence, for selling 3 lbs of cannabis. He is the longest-serving nonviolent cannabis offender in Michigan...ever! He is type 2 diabetic and with COVID-19, he could never see his release. You can learn more about Michael and the Last Prisoner Project by checking out their IG

An open letter to and the entire Maryland cannabis industry.
When I said I’m in...I meant it. I have had nothing but time to dive deep into how we got to where we are in the cannabis industry, and I am ready to take action!
When the system is developed to be what it is, no wonder we have acts of discrimination and racism.
As Maryland cannabis patients, this is OUR culture and OUR community. We have the collective power to do something before it’s too late.
On , direct your dollars towards black-owned businesses.
・・・
Let’s show the cannabis industry what is really about. Since money is the only language they understand, let your wallets do the talking. Use this time to direct your dollars towards black owned businesses ONLY.
✊🏾
・・・
Independence Day doesn't mean s**t for many non-White folk. On this day eons ago, Black people were slaves as the United Circus of America founders claimed all men are equal.
This reflects the same s**t that's happening in the cannabis industry.
Just like most things in America, this industry is rigged against us. And in light of the Fed UpRisings that are STILL happening, dispensaries and cannabis businesses take our Black dollars and invite us into entry level, low-paying positions and expect us to be satisfied.
It's bull s**t. Truly. And so we can't grumble among ourselves about the problems anymore.
July 4-7, stand with us in Maryland and don't shop at Charm City Medicus.
Don't shop at ANY dispensary you KNOW is problematic as f**k.
Encourage your peers to do the same.
Please share this. Repost it. Tag your friends and favorite Black cannabusinesses where others can shop instead of CCM.

Day 1952 of my health journey: Letting go. Last night on the 1,952nd day of my health journey…I let go. I let go of the body and physicality of “2019 Jill” to make way for this new version of myself. I let go of the anger and rage against my body when my legs and hands don’t work. I let go of the constant sadness from missing early morning swims, runs through the city and bike rides through the woods. I let go of the daily verbal abuse against myself for the things I can not do now. I let go of the “standards” I’ve been taught for what’s considered beautiful, sexy, and athletic. If anyone would attempt to boil the ocean, change the tides, and out-will a diagnosis… it would be me. I will continue to have that attitude of hope that I can be better than I am now… but, I’m going to be kinder and gentler as I do it. I will redefine me. I set a goal way before I ever got sick to do a Triathlon by the time I am 45. Until this week, I stopped believing that was something that I would ever be able to do. I may not do it by 45, and it may look completely different… but I will do it. I have never been able to understand when people say how grateful they were to get diagnosed with something. But I get it now, it’s not being grateful for being sick… it’s about all the lessons and experiences. I have experienced the purest of love on my worst days, which is just enough to make me grateful I got sick.
