Conventional wisdom says that Dutchman Hans Lippershey invented the telescope in 1608, but legend has it that the device was really invented three years earlier by kids playing with lenses in a spectacle-maker’s shop. That kind of stuff used to happen in the days before the Xbox.

Your baby was born with about 300 bones. As she grows, many of these will get harder, and some will fuse together.

For example, the skull starts as three pieces of bone joined by cartilage, so that it can fit through the birth canal. This is why your baby's head has soft spots. But these pieces eventually join to make one solid bone.

By the time your baby reaches adulthood, she's likely to have just 206 bones in her body.

Mount Everest may not have physically grown, having reached maturity a long time ago, however, the most recent measurement performed by surveyors representing China and Nepal has the mountain peak standing taller than we'd thought in the past. Previous readings have ranged from 29,002 feet above sea level in 1856 down to 20,029 in 1955, according to NPR. But after the long process of measuring the mountain with GPS devices, experts have now stated that Mount Everest stands at a whopping 29,031.69 feet, due to plate tectonics.

Cousins whose parents are identical twins share 25 percent of their DNA, instead of the usual 12.5 percent. While full-siblings share 50 percent of their DNA, half-siblings share 25 percent. That's why, though children of identical twins are legally cousins, they are genetically the equivalent of half-siblings.

Alike the concern with which the founders built the model city of Jamshedpur, the Tata employees too, share a similar relation of care and affection with their employers. The Tatas were the first employers to introduce the 8-hour working day (1912), free medical aid (1915), workers’ provident fund scheme (1920) and many other welfare schemes even before they were introduced in the West. The “employee association with management” programme initiated in 1956 gave the workers a stronger voice in the affairs of the Company. Forty-one joint departmental councils were formed to encourage their involvement in matters as diverse as production, quality improvement, safety measures, etc. The industrial harmony propaganda of the Company believes that “the welfare of the labouring class must be one of the first cares of the employer”.

During Amelio's tenure Apple's stock continued to slump and hit a 12-year low in Q2 1997 that was at least partially caused by a single sale of 1.5 million shares of Apple stock on June 26 by an anonymous party who was later confirmed to be Steve Jobs. Apple lost another $708 million. On the July 4, 1997 weekend, Jobs convinced the directors to oust Amelio in a boardroom coup; Amelio submitted his resignation less than a week later; and Jobs then became interim CEO on September 16. In a 2007 interview with technology journalist Gina Smith, Jobs quoted Amelio as having a saying:

Apple is like a ship with a hole in the bottom, leaking water, and my job is to get the ship pointed in the right direction.

It was reported that Amelio's contract gave him about $3.5 million in severance pay, after a $2.3 million performance bonus in 1996.

When the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic continued to overwhelm India’s medical system, no resource has emerged as precious or in as short supply as medical oxygen. India has now recorded over 300,000 Covid-19 cases for over a fortnight in a row. An estimated 17 per cent of all persons hospitalised with Covid-19 symptoms require medical oxygen, with Government data released on May 8 saying more than 137,000 people across India are on oxygen support. This is more than three times the number of those needing oxygen in the first wave.

“People you love never die. That is what Omai had said, all those years ago. And he was right. They don't die. Not completely. They live in your mind, the way they always lived inside you. You keep their light alive. If you remember them well enough, they can still guide you, like the shine of long-extinguished stars could guide ships in unfamiliar waters.”
― Matt Haig, How to Stop Time

Oxygen is the fundamental element of life. Animals breathes oxygen.
Earth has been oxygenated for about 2.3 billion to 2.4 billion years, and levels began to creep up at least 2.5 billion years ago, according to a 2007 NASA-funded study. No one knows quite why this lung-friendly gas suddenly became a significant part of the atmosphere, but it's possible that geologic changes on Earth led to oxygen produced by photosynthesizing organisms sticking around, rather than being consumed in geologic reactions, according to the study researchers.

I don't like food that's too carefully arranged. it makes me think that the chef is spending too much time arranging and not enough time cooking. If I wanted a picture, I had bought a painting.
