Life is about the little things I’m reminded again and again. Most importantly the two little heads sticking out of that sunroof. Tiny moments like this-pulling over to watch the painted sky, sunroof open, singing along to our favorite songs. This evening in Indiana was a pivotal point for me in the surrender that this required. Even though I knew full-time travel wasn’t serving us the ways we desired, my ego had a hard time letting go of the endless possibility of adventure and excitement. David finding the perfect spot to watch the sunset, opening the sunroof for the boys, playing my favorite songs and singing along - I was so present and so full of joy I realized that the adventure doesn’t end if we settle down back home. And to go even further, what if finally settling into a true groundedness allows us to spread our wings even more fully? It may not look like life on wheels, but I believe it will be even better. 🌅

📍Missouri
Even as I post the smiling pictures-all of the highest highlights of a trip of a lifetime-the lows brought us to our knees. Interestingly enough, having everything that you’ve ever thought you wanted doesn’t just magically make life perfect. There’s still going to be challenges and difficulties. There will still be miscommunications and fights. And because you “have it all” you’ll also beat yourself up again and again for faltering out anything but supreme joy and happiness.

Looking back, I guess I can only begin to understand that it was all guidance. A signal that something wasn’t quite right that also came with a new direction. Life on the road wasn’t serving us in the ways we wanted to thrive as a family. The most prevalent feeling being isolation. We craved connection, and the tiny island on wheels that we called home just wasn’t enabling the deep and meaningful relationships we desired. So we began to explore other options and decisions were made.

And it didn’t feel like we were the ones making the decisions. This has happened at almost every turn in our journey, where it begins to feel like the decisions are making us. What starts as a snowflake becomes an avalanche. To me, it feels like God’s hand picking us up once more, swooping us away and planting us where we’re meant to be. It’s like if you’re willing, He will move mountains. And He will move them fast.

As our GPS aimed north, still part of me went kicking and screaming. Not wanting to let go of the full-time travel life. Not wanting to “give up” on this dream that I’ve carried for so long. But deep down, I knew and continued to cling to the belief that my plan is never as great as God’s. For our family, for our boys we began heading HOME. 🏡

📍Arkansas
I can say with certainty that I never expected to fall head over heels in love with Arkansas. If you would have told me when we started our road trip last summer that it would be our favorite place of all I wouldn’t have believed you.

But it was. We spent a month but we wanted to spend an eternity. It was the first place we truly contemplated staying and settling down. We found friends at every turn. The bike culture and the family friendly atmosphere were all so inviting.

Trails, downtown markets, fifty cent icecream…it’s hard not to want to create a life in Bentonville, Arkansas. And for a moment we thought we might. But in the end it felt too far and too difficult to get to for our families so we let that dream go and continued to pray and soul search for the next step of our journey.

We didn’t know where the road would lead after our last planned stop. We assumed we’d keep going…somewhere. Texas was on the top of our mind. Heading west to California seemed like an exciting dream. But the path we took was probably the most unexpected of all.

I’ll take you along on the journey from there to here-but know that as much as I try to portray all of feelings and decision making- it’s quite impossible to encompass the whole of it.

To begin, we will go back to Bentonville at the start of the spring. The weather was warming and the tulips were blooming. We spent more time outside than in and made the most of the month by making memories as a family.

Travel recap from our trip to
📍Bentonville, Arkansas

From Knoxville, TN we drove 4.5 hours to Jackson, TN to stay at a Harvest Hosts farm that boasted full hook-ups! We bought some peach jam and decided to continue driving the next day!

From Jackson, TN we found another amazing Harvest Hosts farm in Atkins, Arkansas! From the photos we knew it would be a really cool place for Dawson to see !!!!! 🚜 !!! The hosts were incredibly generous and accommodating and offered electric AND use of their barn’s party room (living room, kitchen, full bath!)

The next day we realized we only had TWO more hours to go so we decided to go for it! We felt such a relief to arrive, get hooked up and get the house in order after 3 days on the road.

These were our BEST 3 travel days so far I would say (as far as how well the boys did in the car!) But unfortunately a rock did crack our windshield so you can’t win them all 😞

We’re here and so excited for all that this area has to offer. It has already exceeded our expectations everywhere we turn! I can’t wait to update with our Arkansas adventures throughout our stay.

If anyone has recommendations please let us know!
