Some readers have asked me to keep them informed about scams we come across because it's getting harder to tell a scam from real business these days.

HERE'S A NEW ONE FOR ME...
I just got a robocall saying it was amazon and asking me to call back a number if I had not purchased an iPhone 11 because they were about to charge me $549 for it. Upon investigation, I found that these are scam numbers and once you call them they ask you to use their customer service with an app on your phone, and then they are able to gain control of your phone and all its information. Then reports show they ask you to log into your bank account so they can review the amazon charge and at that point, they have control of your bank account as well.
So of course I didn't call any numbers back but thought I'd share the information so you don't fall victim to this. You can read more about the variation of this scam on (https://www.thedailyscam.com/not-amazon-customer-support/) . They tell about fake phone numbers you find on google searches for amazon that lead to the same type of scam when you call them. I admit I had not thought about a corporate phone number that I google search for could cause so much trouble too. I was aware of fake websites that look so real that could cause you trouble, but never thought about a simple phone number.

Something new while we shelter in place: With Historic St. Mary's City staff teleworking, some have found time to use their skills at home. Education Director Peter built a raised garden bed (planned prior to the pandemic).

As a former supervisor of the Godiah Spray plantation, Peter has plenty of experience. Raised garden beds are what make up the plantation kitchen garden area, and was a popular method of planting in England during the 17th century.

Death Investigation in Lexington Park
On September 2, 2019, at approximately 7:30 p.m. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 21300 block of Great Mills Road in Lexington Park, for the possible drowning. A complainant contacted 911 and advised an acquaintance entered Sanner’s Lake and was not able to be located. Numerous agencies including the Calvert County Dive Team, responded to assist in the search for the victim. The victim, later identified as Nathaniel Warren Rosengrant, age 34 of no fixed address, was
located deceased in the lake by divers.

Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Criminal Investigations Division responded and are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Detective Daniel Sidorowicz at (301) 475-4200 extension *8043, or by email at
[email protected].

Citizens may remain anonymous and contact Crime Solvers at (301) 475-3333, or text a tip to “TIP239” plus their message to “CRIMES” (274637). Through the Crime Solvers Program, tipsters are eligible for an award of up to $1,000 for information about a crime in St. Mary’s County that leads to an arrest or indictment.

CORRECTION TO WHAT HAS BEEN PRINTED IN THE CALVERT RECORDER NEWSPAPER...I just want to be sure everyone knows the correct service date for Jaime Rivera, "Jim" because the newspaper printed the wrong date. A Black and White Pitbull who goes by the name of Ace who has a skin condition with patches on his stomach and chest got out of our yard last night around 11:30pm. We believe someone may have picked him up at the corner or 228 and Ironwood Drive in Waldorf, MD. My fiance and I don't know how this can make the news for everyone to see but we want our little man back. He's 6 years old and goes by the name of Ace. He got out by a loose slat on our fence last night. We would love for this to go out to the world for us to have him back at home safe and sound.
