Black Bay Park Phase 1 improvements are scheduled to begin in early February. The lower portion of the park, including the lower parking lot, will remain closed during construction. Construction is expected to last until the end of August. The upper parking lot, basketball court, tennis courts, and shade pavilion will remain open during construction. Please see the attached map to reference the closed area.

We acknowledge the inconvenience this will cause and appreciate your patience and cooperation during construction. Upon completion, the new park improvements will include a boardwalk, repaved trail to the beach area, erosion control measures in the bay, an entry plaza with shade pavilion, and additional site furnishings.

Yesterday at 4:40 pm, after completing a call for service, Officer Nicholas McDaniel failed to respond to a status check from our Communications Center. Officers were dispatched to Officer McDaniel’s last known location, where they found him slumped over the wheel of his police vehicle. The officers on scene immediately started CPR until Kootenai County Fire & Rescue arrived on scene and transported Officer McDaniel to Kootenai Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. The cause of death has been determined to be a massive heart attack.

Officer McDaniel was 36 years old and had worked for the Post Falls Police Department for a little under a year, with 13 years served previously in Hawaii. I would like to thank all the surrounding law enforcement, fire, and medical agencies, as well as our local community, for their unwavering support while our department mourns the loss of a family member.

Please keep Officers McDaniel’s fiancé and children in your thoughts and prayers as they try to cope with the loss of their loved one.
