The first ever Hello Kitty and Friends Café in will open at on Friday. On the same day, an adjacent merchandise location, Smile Shop, will open.

Universal Studios Hollywood has sold Sanrio-branded items at the Animation Studio on the theme park’s Upper Lot for years but has not had a dedicated Hello Kitty restaurant or merchandise location.

The will offer signature beverages along with desserts and other treats.

The 57-year-old drug trafficker, a historical leader of the Gulf Cartel and a key figure in the rise of Los Zetas to the top leagues of the criminal world, was released this Friday after serving a 21-year prison sentence, according to the U.S. authorities. He was released into the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to a spokesperson for the U.S. prison service cited by the news agency Reuters, which said that it is not clear if Cárdenas will be deported to Mexico, where he has outstanding charges, or remain on U.S. soil.
Also known as El Ingeniero (The Engineer) or El Mata Amigos (The Friend Killer), Washington accused him of commandeering a vast criminal empire that moved tons of ma*****na and co***ne, made millions in profits and sowed terror on both sides of the border during the 2000s.
Cárdenas Guillén was captured in March 2003 in the middle of a shootout that rained fire for hours in the border city of Matamoros (in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas), his hometown and main base of operations. The United States also accused him of the attempted kidnapping and murder of a DEA agent in 1999, of an undercover FBI agent who was caught by his men, and of threatening a Texas agent who prevented the arrival of almost a ton of ma*****na. The boss also had a knack for business and money laundering, as he commanded a large drug distribution network that extended to large cities such as Houston and Atlanta. During the boom years, he brought in between four and six tons of co***ne each month. He earned $41 million in a three-and-a-half-month period in the Atlanta metropolitan area alone.

On August 5, IShowSpeed's editor shared on Twitter a screenshot of Speed's Channel dashboard, revealing that YouTube had given them a strike for violating Active Community Guidelines. The video that reportedly caused it had IShowSpeed jumping over two sports cars, a Lamborghini and a McLaren, coming at him at full speed during a livestream. Although this is not his first time jumping over a supercar in a YouTube video, this stream has been removed from Speed's channel, and the creator is reportedly banned for two weeks, according to a verified fan account on Twitter. The streamer is no stranger to being banned on major platforms. Earlier this year, IShowSpeed was banned by PlayStation and he was once banned from Twitch for two years.

The home locker that the late Kobe Bryant used from 2003-04 to his final season in 2015-16 has sold for a record-setting $2.9 million, the auction house that brokered the sale said Friday.
According to Sotheby's, it's the most valuable sports locker to ever sell at auction. It's also the third-most expensive piece of Bryant memorabilia of all time, trailing just a game-used, autographed and photo-matched jersey from Bryant's rookie season, which sold for $3.69 million in 2021, and a signed, game-used and photo-matched Bryant jersey from his lone MVP season in 2007-08, which sold for $5.6 million -- the second-most valuable basketball jersey ever sold.

Tropical Storm Debby’s strong winds and heavy rain have downed trees, submerged streets and drenched neighborhoods across Florida this week. The storm also heaved an unexpected type of debris onto one beach: blocks of co***ne worth about $1 million.

Debby, which made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of at least 74 miles per hour, blew 25 packages of co***ne onto a beach on the Florida Keys, according to Samuel Briggs II, the acting chief patrol agent for the U.S. Border Patrol in Miami. The drugs were discovered by a “good Samaritan,” who alerted the authorities, Mr. Briggs said in a social media post. The U.S. Border Patrol seized the drugs, he said.

The co***ne blocks, which weighed about 70 pounds total, appeared to be wrapped in plastic and marked with a red and black symbol, according to photos shared by Mr. Briggs. Their street value, he added, was over $1 million. It was unclear whether they had washed up on shore in the water or been blown there by the wind.

Four months after California boosted the minimum wage for fast food workers from $16 to $20 an hour, the union representing hundreds of thousands of employees is asking for another raise.

Members of the California Fast Food Workers Union, a branch of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), presented their “demands” at Wednesday’s first-ever meeting of the state’s Fast Food Council. The SEIU is asking that the minimum wage be increased to $20.70 per hour by January 1, 2025, “to keep up with the rising cost of living.”

The union is also demanding more stable schedules, enforcement of backpay owed to employees, and an investigation into what it says are “pervasive abuses” in the fast food industry, such as wage theft, harassment, discrimination, and unsafe conditions.

A man recently identified as a suspect in the 1991 murder of a 23-year-old woman has died by su***de, days after a DNA swab from his cheek matched DNA evidence collected at the crime scene 33 years ago, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Albert Lauro Jr., 57, was identified as a suspect in the murder of Dana Ireland, who had been kidnapped and r***d in the Kapoho area of Hawaii Island on Dec. 24, 1991, according to police. She died a day later at a local hospital.

"This case is still under investigation. Albert Lauro Jr. has been linked to the victim by DNA; however, his exact involvement is still under investigation. And his death was ruled a su***de by the forensic pathologist," Hawaii Police Department Capt. Rio Amon-Wilkins told ABC News.

The Alhambra Police Department is warning residents that someone is leaving fake parking tickets on vehicles that include a QR code directing to a website not affiliated with the city. An officer with the Los Angeles Police Department who was implicated in a 2020 scandal that labeled people as gang members pleaded “no contest” late last week to six felony counts of falsifying a police report, officials announced.

Officer Braxton Shaw, 41, who was assigned to Metropolitan Division, falsified dozens of interview cards, which are used by police while in the field, that contained false information and wrongfully identified victims as gang members, according to a news release from the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors alleged that some of the 43 people who had denied any gang affiliations wound up in a state gang database as a result of the scandal.

New court documents allege that Duane Davis, the man accused of killing Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas in 1996, implicated Sean “Diddy” Combs in the murder in an interview with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

The documents were filed July 18 by the Clark County District Attorney’s Office in response to Davis’ request for reconsideration of bail. Judge Carli Kierny will reconsider whether the $112,500 he put up in bond money should be allowed, as prosecutors allege the source of the funds agreed to an exclusive interview deal with Davis.

A 69 year old man is fighting for his life after being shot three times during an attempted carjacking in #highlandpark Tuesday night. The victim was driving north on Figueroa Street around 12:05 a.m. Tuesday and as he approached a stop light at Marmion Way, the suspect approached him on foot and demanded the victim’s car. After the victim refused, the suspect then shot the victim three times. After he was shot, the victim drove to 5028 Figueroa St. and contacted police and his wife.
