NRL games: 119 (2008 - 2015)
Clubs: Raiders
Born in 1985, Glen Buttriss is from Cootamundra in the Riverina in southern NSW.
Despite being from the Raiders catchment area, Glen was picked up via Souths Logan in the Queensland Cup. He was working as a greenkeeper and playing for the Magpies when he got the call up from coach Neil Henry.
He made his first grade debut in Round 6 of the 2008 season replacing the injured Lincoln Withers. That game was also notable because it was the first game Todd Carney captained the Raiders.
Despite the mid-season sacking of Todd Carney, the Raiders made the finals in his first season and he even lined up at halfback in the qualifying final loss against the Sharks.
The next year he became the #1 ho**er at the club but often rotated to the bench when Alan Tongue started.
He played in finals series in 2010 and 2012 and in total he played 119 games for the Raiders and scored seven tries.
After Josh Hodgson took the #1 ho**er status, Glen took on a leadership role at the Mounties, captaining the side and mentoring them.
After his full time professional career ended, he started work at Melba Copland Secondary School and College doing some youth work.
In 2018 he captained/coached his junior club the Cootamunda Bulldogs. It was the first time he’d been able to play for them since he was a junior and gave him the opportunity to play with his younger brother too.
Glen then played in the Canberra Cup for the Belconnen Sharks under the coaching of former teammate Scott Logan.
He co-founded a business with former Raiders wrestling coach Steve Babic in 2019. Goat Hydroponics sells indoor plant nutrients and equipment. He also started a vodka brand called Never Surrender Vodka with former team mate Todd Carney.
Moving to Queensland in 2021, he played for the Currumbin Eagles. He was also on the coaching staff for 3P Performance which helps young players improve their skills and performance.
Now 39, he returned to his junior club, the Cootamundra Bulldogs, for a guest appearance earlier this year. He is a disability specialist running his own business - GB Disability Services.
