I am saddened to hear what has happened today with Senator Azam Swati, for the first time in my life I feel ashamed of where we are living. A respected senator of the National Assembly was stripped naked and now all this, at least as a human being, an elderly person should be respected. I am suffering all this, and as a Pakistani I condemn this thing.

The social media cell of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf has rubbished the narrative of all political parties, PDM and their social media team.
At present, the only narrative seen in the whole of Pakistan which every child knows is the narrative of Tehreek-e-Insaf, which was made possible by the efforts of Tehreek-e-Insaf on social media.

The long march of former prime minister Imran Khan that is scheduled to begin on Friday from Lahore will proceed to the town of Shahdara on the outskirts of the provincial capital on the first day, according to the schedule shared by the party.

Khan announced on Tuesday he would begin the march with his supporters from Lahore to Islamabad on Friday to call for early elections.

Smaller protests by his supporters took place last week after the election tribunal found him guilty of “unlawfully selling” gifts from foreign dignitaries and heads of state, removing him from his seat in the National Assembly.

The protest will begin at 11:00 am from Liberty Chowk neighbourhood and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman will deliver his last speech of the first day at Azadi Chowk near Minar-i-Pakistan.

From Liberty Chowk, the march will then proceed to Kalma Chowk via Gulberg Main Boulevard. From there, the marchers will the following day begin their journey to Shahdara.

The party has directed its activists to launch a publicity campaign and install camps along the protest route.

Meanwhile, additional contingents of law enforcement personnel have been deployed in Islamabad to tackle the march.

“Steps being taken to implement a plan of blocking roads,” reports citing sources said. “Containers have already been brought at several points to block the roads and arrangements are being made to keep the cranes on standby to place more containers,” they said.

The Supreme Court turned down the government’s request to stop Imran Khan from holding a long march on Islamabad, and Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial advised the administration of the prime minister to hold talks with the chair of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

The government of the multi-party Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition filed a contempt of court plea against Khan in the Supreme Court over his plan to protest to force the centre to call snap elections.

The petition came a day after Khan announced he would begin the much-anticipated protest march with his supporters from Lahore to Islamabad on Friday to call for early elections.

Revealing the protest schedule in a series of tweets today, Umar said that the march will begin on Friday from Lahore’s Liberty Chowk and move onto the Azadi Chowk via the Ferozepur Road through Ichhra, Mozang and Data Darbar.

18/10/2022

Lahore ranked first, and Karachi has been second most polluted city on the Air Quality Index (AQI) on Monday.

Pakistan’s two biggest cities have got the dubious distinction of soaring to first and second from the top in the most polluted cities of the world on the air pollution measurement scale.

Lahore was measured to have 187 hazardous particulate matter and Karachi 179 particulate matter, according to the air quality index.

It is to be mentioned here that AQI as high as 151-200 is considered unhealthy, while an AQI reading between 201 to 300 is more harmful and AQI over 300 mark is dubbed extremely hazardous.

According to experts, the air becomes heavier in the winter as compared to summer, causing poisonous particles in the atmosphere to move downwards and making the atmosphere polluted. As a result, a layer of polluted particles, including large amounts of carbon and smoke, covers a city.

The smoke produced by factories and by burning coal, garbage, oil or tyres enters the atmosphere and the effects of this appear at the onset of winter and remain till the season’s end, experts said.

Thus, air pollution reaches extremely dangerous levels in cold weather, severely compromising air quality.

Although southwestern winds blowing from the sea in Karachi may work as a filter for the air, these winds remain mostly suspended during the winter, according to experts.

They noted that winds blowing from the northeast increase the concentration of hidden polluted particles, and a healthy atmosphere in such a situation is subject to rainfall, which washes off all polluted particles.

The AQI calculation is based on five categories of pollution: ground-level ozone, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Monday reduced Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) on networks of the SNGPL and SSGCL has been slashed by up to 2.28 per cent for the current month of October 2022.

According to OGRA determination, the authority fixed RLNG price for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) at $14.7850 per MMBTU and $15.1865 per MMBTU for Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) for October 2022.

According to the details, the authority has decreased the price for the consumers of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) by $2.19 per MMBTU which is 12.92 per cent lower than the RLNG price in September. After the decision to cut RLNG price, the price of imported RLNG has gone down to $14.7850/MMBTU for October.

Similarly, the price for consumers of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) has been reduced by $2.28/MMBTU which is 13.10pc less than the previous month’s notified price. After the reduction, the price of imported RLNG has reduced to $15.1865/MMBTU for the October.

According to OGRA, a total of eight LNG cargoes were imported by Pakistan State Oil (PSO) under two long term contracts with Qatar while Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) procured one LNG cargo during October.
The decrease in rates will also reduce the cost of electricity generated from RLNG based power plants during October.

It is pertinent to mention that OGRA determined RLNG price for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) at $16.9779 per Million British Thermal Unit (MMBTU) and $17.4762 per MMBTU for Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) for September 2022.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Secretary General Asad Umar vowed that the people of the country would give unequivocal and unambiguous verdict against the imported government in Sunday’s by-polls by casting votes to the PTI to say ‘goodbye to slavery’ once and for all.

Talking to media persons, PTI Central Secretary General urged the people that it was not an ordinary elections but a jihad to rid the country of these cable of crooks to achieve the real independence.

He said that all the political analysts and observers were unanimous on the point that PTI Chairman would quite comfortable thrash its political opponents to regain power in the country if ECP held fair and transparent elections.

However, Asad said that the ECP did not work as in impartial state institutions, as there were reports cropped up from several polling stations of severe electoral irregularities.

He stated that police special branch people were sitting in polling stations in Karachi and were trying to influence the votes, adding that Rana Sanaullah also run the elections campaign in sheer violations of election code of conduct.

Umar went on to say that let see what the ECP should do on these massive irregularities, as it was said that notice was taken. However, he added that whether it would remain mere a notice or some practical and tangible actions were taken against the responsible people.

Terming the turn out good, he said that ‘today’s evening the nation will tell clearly that they will not accept slavery come what may’.

Taking about the country’s crippling economic situation, PTI Secretary General expressed apprehension, as the country was going from bad to worse, as reports emanating from international markets were clearly indicating that Pakistan was fast heading towards default.

He said that the imported government compounded the miseries of the people manifolds by breaking all records of inflation and now the gas prices would be increased alarmingly to further add fuel to fire.

Former prime minister and ruling PML-N’s supremo Nawaz Sharif has expressed annoyance over his party’s “worst defeat” in Sunday’s by-elections, directing the party officials to set up a fact-finding committee on the by-poll drubbing.

PML-N sources reported on Monday that chaotic scenes were witnessed at party huddles with after Nawaz expressed dissatisfaction over the party leadership’s performance in yesterday’s by-elections in three provinces of the country and directed the ministers and senior party leaders to submit the report on the thumping defeat.

The PML-N leadership submitted a preliminary report on election defeat to Nawaz Sharif, in which rising inflation and massive increase in electricity prices were quoted as major reasons behind the defeat.

The insiders added the report also held party’s renewed ‘conciliatory narrative’ and lack of senior leadership interest in the party affairs responsible for the upset in by-polls.

18/10/2022

Musadik Malik, the Minister of State for Petroleum, on Monday warned that gas loadshdding is inevitable in the coming months despite the arrangement of additional 200 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) liquefied natural gas (LNG) in January-February 2023, compared to the same period last year.

“Despite the availability of an extra LNG cargo during the upcoming peak winter season, gas load-shedding will be inevitable,” Malik said while briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum in a meeting held under the chair of Chairman Committee, Senator Mohammad Abdul Qadir.

“In January, Pakistan will have ten LNG cargoes, while in February nine of them will be available for local consumption, while this extra liquefied gas will be imported by state-run companies.”

Malik said the government would encourage the private sector to invest in new LNG terminals.

The state petroleum minister was critical of the supply of gas to the fertiliser-makers at discounted rates.

“The gas costing Rs4,000/MMBTU was being supplied to the fertiliser factories for just Rs250/MMBTU under the pressure of the fertiliser mafia,” the minister said.

A poor common consumer pays $17/MMBTU, while the exporting sector gets the same gas for $9/MMBTU; however, it is provided to the fertiliser-makers at a meagre $1.35-3/MMBTU.

“It is true exports are also important, the gas sector circular debt has ballooned to Rs1,500 billion,” he said adding, “We have to strike a balance between gas prices. We did not buy gas when it was available at $2-2.5/MMBTU. Now it has reached $40/MMBTU.”

Malik also informed the meeting that the country was also planning to import 20,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for winter months.

Speaking on the occasion, PTI’s Senator Saifullah Abro said foreign investment in the gas sector would be highly welcome. “However, we need to be careful lest these investing companies should trap the country into paying them capacity payments like some independent power producers (IPPs),” Senator Abro said.

During the meeting, Abro and Malik traded barbs over mismanagement in the buying of LNG.
