What is a “moodboard”?
A moodboard is an extremely helpful tool for anyone who is creative. Graphic designers, architects, visual artists, interior decorators, and anyone with a grand idea in its early stages can use a moodboard.
Coaches use moodboards, too!
If you’ve ever built your own personal brand, or built a course of your own, you may have used a moodboard before.
A moodboard is a collection of images, inspirations, colors, and quotes...anything that visually communicates your grand idea, put together collage-style to help you get a clear picture of how your project will appear visually.
It is used to convey a “feeling” about a certain topic or idea.
I use moodboards almost consistently. From designing a unique brand for a new client, to redecorating my home, I use moodboards to get a clear understanding of how my process will pan out.
When working with a new coach, the first stage is all about “branding”. After we get a clear vision of the coach’s mission, values, and target audience, we work with moodboards to direct our visual branding project.
Often, my clients choose to create their own moodboards for their brand style. After reviewing their board, I create my own, and we compare!
This helps us to communicate on visual style, which isn’t always easy to do!
Using moodboards with my client help me to ensure that we are on the same page through our entire design process.
The moodboard we come up with is then used to guide color choices, fonts, graphics/photography styles, and other design choices.
From the moodboard, we create a comprehensive “brand style guide” that includes all of these elements, so that the client can easily see which fonts, colors, and other visual components to use for anything they create in the future!
