Pregnancy is not an April fools joke, or even a joke in general.

I get it, you want to share a quick laugh with your buddies, a little ha-ha for the people you have on social media thinking it’s a harmless joke, but in reality it isn’t.

You might not be ready for or even want the responsibility of being a parent, but so many people do and they’re going through painful treatments, ones that feel like the wait is going to be forever, like they possibly might not ever get to hold their own baby in their arms… and they’re people you know, people you love.

More people struggle with infertility than who actually speak up about it. It’s such a sensitive topic for so many people.

You don’t have to have experienced a miscarriage to understand, or even experience infertility. You can understand being a decent human and finding something else to joke about.

Those friends/family members will see your announcements and some will actually believe that you’re pregnant and they WILL be happy for you, but devastated for themselves because what seemed to happen with ease for you, is the fight they show up for on a daily basis… and it’s an emotionally taxing one.

1 in 8 struggle to get pregnant, 1 in 4 have lost a baby. I am both. But, so are your sisters, your cousins and your friends… and they suffer silently.

I say it every year, it doesn’t matter who you are… do not joke about pregnancy. I have zero problem blocking you and advocating for the ones that don’t ever talk about their journey and suffer behind closed doors.

A poem on pregnancy hardships

Carrying a life inside of me,
a blessing, a miracle, they say,
but the struggles that come with it,
make me wish for a different way.

Morning sickness, constant fatigue,
backaches that won't let me sleep,
heartburn, swollen feet, and hands,
these are just some of the things I keep.

My body changes day by day,
stretch marks, weight gain, and more,
emotions up and down like a rollercoaster,
I never knew pregnancy could be such a chore.

The excitement of a new life to come,
keeps me going through the pain,
but sometimes I just want to cry,
and wish for a break from this constant strain.

But when I feel that tiny kick,
or hear that heartbeat strong and clear,
I know that it's all worth it,
and I'll continue to persevere.

For soon I'll hold my little one,
and forget all about these woes,
and cherish every moment spent,
watching my little one as he or she grows.
