I'm so that such an innovative in the sector, Mitch Stein of Pond (joinpond.com), visited with me on the Unleash Generosity Podcast!

In Season 2 we are leaning into the values of
HUMILITY
HOSPITALITY
COLLABORATION
RESPECT
INTENTIONAL ENGAGEMENT
RADICAL IMAGINATION

Our conversation touched on ALL of these values.

* I was humbled to listen to Mitch share honestly about some harmful experiences he had growing up in the church as he became aware of his identity as a gay man.

* We discussed the tremendous power of listening to others and seeking to learn from their STORY instead of their ADVICE.

* Mitch offered reflections on how his journey was inspired by volunteering with and then serving on the Board of the LGBT Center of New York.

* It was so exciting to learn more from Mitch about how Pond is transforming the non-profit marketplace by paying organizations to discover the best business solutions in the industry.

* I also share about a great marketing company that I connected with on Pond. Padrón & Co. did a great job redesigning my website and their work was completely funded because of meetings I had with different vendors on Pond. Zero out of pocket for a website redesign that looks great and is easy to manage for me!

Thanks for checking out the episode and the rest of Season 2 wherever you listen to podcasts or at https://unleashgenerosity.org/

Yesterday I shared the 2nd part of a 6 episode VALUES series on the Unleash Generosity Podcast. While we may not always agree with others about difficult issues we can embrace HUMILITY and HOSPITALITY in our lives and in the cultures of our organizations.

HUMILITY is an acknowledgement that none of us are perfect and we need to learn and grow by listening to others stories and experiences.

HOSPITALITY is embodying a posture where we welcome everyone to show up as their full selves.

In what ways do you see organizations embodying these important values? I'd love to hear about individuals and organizations you feel are leading the way.

You can listen to both episodes on the Unleash Generosity website: https://unleashgenerosity.org/ or on Spotify, Apple Podcasts...wherever you listen to podcasts.

Creating cultures of accountability in our non-profit and religious organizations falls on all of us. Leaders must be willing to invite and entertain difficult questions. Staff, donors, and board members must be willing to press leaders for honesty when serious allegations arise. Organizations must have systems in place for true independent investigations that lead to discovering the truth. Protecting the vulnerable must become a priority.

I'm grateful for the great reporting Daniel Silliman has done with Christianity Today on this topic. Our great conversation on the Unleash Generosity podcast was important but is not the final word on this topic. Have you listened to the episode? What did you take away from our conversation? Be on the lookout for more information about an upcoming Community Conversation on this important issue.

Thanks to Ben Sterling with TnAchieves for joining me on Episode 11 of the podcast! Ben shares his own experience as one of the 100,000 TN students who have been enrolled in college thanks to the good work of this great organization. You won't want to miss how they are helping address equity gaps in accessing higher education through coaching and mentorship programs. Their management of the TN Promise scholarship program is setting a national model in addressing the huge issue of higher education affordability.

Enjoyed a thoughtful conversation with Rhonda Chafin, Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee, about the challenges of food insecurity facing many during the Covid-19 pandemic. I'm grateful for all the good work Rhonda and her team do to eliminate hunger in the rural 8 county region of upper Northeast Tennessee.

Episode 3 is live with a great conversation with my friend Leslie Salling of the United Way of Washington County, TN! One of the things we talk about is the United Way's ALICE report that showed that PRIOR to the COVID pandemic about 45% of our community was either living in poverty or at risk of falling into poverty. Nearly 1/2 of our community!

Please take a listen to the podcast to learn more about the economic pressures facing our most vulnerable neighbors and some of the great ways Leslie and the United Way are committed to helping end systemic poverty.

Unleash Generosity Podcast Episode 1 is live, all be it with some rough sound quality in spots. Hey, I'm a novice, give me some time! Andy Dietrich was kind enough to be my first guest and shared about the Region AHEAD project that supports small businesses impacted by Covid-19. I was also proud to be joined by my son, Isaiah, for the first segment of a yet to be named part of the episode where I discuss generosity with a child and do some trivia. To learn more about the Region AHEAD initiative you can visit https://regionahead.com. Also, thanks to Daniel Couper for allowing me to use his great music on the podcast. You can check out his stuff at danielcoupermusic.com. Be on the lookout for more content here on Facebook and please visit www.unleashgenerosity.org to listen to future episodes!

Welcome to the Unleash Generosity Podcast Facebook group! If you have ideas for future guests or organizations to feature on the podcast or want to discuss past episodes, this is a great space to do that. I hope that you find the podcast episodes to be challenging, insightful, and encouraging. As I mention in the first episode, a big focus of the podcast will be discussing why people give, serve, and share the way they do. Obviously people don't all share the same beliefs and values. I ask that you are respectful in your comments. Rude or disparaging comments will be deleted. Also, it is important to note that this is a personal project I am undertaking, not a part of my job at ETSU. Any opinions or views I express on the podcast are my own and don't represent or speak for my employer. There are so many great people doing great work and I'm excited to talk with them about their stories, learn from them and to learn from you as well. Thanks for listening in! -Aaron Scott, Host
