You can’t work in music without WORKING in music. When you’re starting out, having an industry related job will accelerate your network and knowledge of the business as a whole. The friends you meet early on entry level positions will likely be the same people you’ll be collaborating with later in your career.

⬇️ Welcome to the NEW Progressions ⬇️
I’m excited to share that next Wednesday (January 10) starts a new era for the podcast!
The new Progressions will be your home base for career growth. I hope it inspires you as much as it educates you.
The new format is a return to weekly episodes with a mix of interviews featuring some of the most successful people in the industry and solo monologue episodes similar to the classic Progressions intros.
You’ll find the interviews to be more focused and topical than past episodes. My aim is to bring you the most valuable and insightful conversations possible and the result has been many of my personal favorites.
When I started the show three years ago I never knew the journey that it would take me on. I never thought it would change me as much as it has. I think it took two years just to learn how to be a host and then a year further to decide how I wanted the show to grow and change.
Thank you to all of you that have been listening from the beginning. You’ve all made this possible.

Setting the right goals is key to building momentum for your career.
If you set your goals based on outcomes you’ll be less likely to achieve them because outcomes are generally outside of your control. You can’t control whether your song is a hit, you can only control that you released it and promoted it. You can’t make it resonate with people.
With that in mind, try setting goals for 2024 that revolve around the work you can put it in not the desired result. Set goals based around releasing music, practicing, reaching out to new people, learning new skills, going to the gym everyday, etc.
Focus on the process and the results will come.

Constantly comparing yourself to others in the industry will never lead to feeling successful. The industry will move the goal posts and you’ll always be chasing someone or something else.
If you want to define success for yourself you need to carve your own path, be comfortable in your choices, and stop comparing yourself to those around you. If you do this you’ll find that you’re more supportive of your peers, more energized by the wins in your journey, and ultimately much happier.
By all means, be driven, be passionate, and be the best, but don’t let your progress define your life.
