**A-LA-LA-LA CONG-HAA!** Craving a Conga line? Feeling lost or just completely forgot about Auckland Anniversary Weekend? Never fear - Brother Sister is here!

Electro-pop whiz kids Brother Sister are channelling their passion for throw-back 80s culture to bring you their uplifting blend of electro driven synth pop live at Big Fan, Saturday 25 January.

A band of siblings, Brother Sister are an energetic trio whose sound unapologetically references the rich, nostalgic sounds of 80s cartoons and cinema, with plenty of on point grooves and surprising flourishes to keep it fresh.

Let Dave Thomson (synth & lead vocals), Taz Thomson (bass & lead vocals) and Ben Thomson (drums) expertly take you back to the future with their fun, punchy, and irresistibly danceable live show that ALWAYS ends up in a CONGA LINE!

2024 has been full of research, reflection, refinement, budgeting, strategic planning, upskilling, creating, brainstorming, dreaming, secret meetings, and an insane amount of beautiful ear worms and transformative live experiences.

We are often advised in life to just start doing and figure things out as we go along, that there are things you couldn't learn if you weren't in the thick of it, and that the journey is what gives each destination just that little bit more meaning.

This has been part of our mindset since day one back in 2023. It's still hard to believe the first rung on our ladder was 2 nationwide tours, an album release, and a cinema premiere for an international artist that we admire, appreciate, and respect so much.

If you missed all of that, go and check out vibrant Canadian troubadour, C.R. Avery ( .r._avery ) and his extraordinary concept album: The Bar Without a Neon Sign (see slide 3). Every listen still blows us away!

We'll probably say this every year but 2025 is going to be very special.

We're preparing to really flex the muscles we've been building behind closed doors.

That's all we can say for now...

As always, to Artists we only have one thing to say:
Thank You for Creating 🙏💛🔥

And to all you other amazing humans:
Thanks for all your Support! 🙏💛🔥

The fact we even get to do this is something we're so grateful for every single day.

Long may it continue!

Until 2025 - Safe and happy holidays 🎉

Stay tuned 💛

**CHORAL BLISS**

On Sunday we ventured out to the Old Folks Association in Auckland for a very special gig.

It was our first time seeing SHE Choir perform, and we were blown away by their rhythms, harmonies, and creative renditions of some very catchy tunes as they closed the year by performing to a full house to raise funds for the Auckland City Mission.

Highlights were Lady Gaga's Poker Face, The Killers' Mr. Brightside, and The Beatles' hit, All You Need Is Love.

It was so wonderful to see a group of women collectively raising their beautiful voices and having so much fun singing together. Their energy was electric!

We were introduced to the SHE Choir by Eden Iris who is one of their members.

Eden was the musical guest, and she wowed the audience with 3 unreleased acoustic originals; Hometown Blues, Only One That Sees It, and Nostalgia Bloom, before inviting the choir to join her for her single, Sunshine Motel (slide 2).

Musical collaborations are such rare and beautiful occasions, and we were honoured to witness this moving and captivating performance.

It was also wonderful to meet Geoff Ong who managed the live sound for this experience. We had some great conversations and the sound was fantastic (slide 3 Geoff setting up with Eden).

- thank you for creating

SHE Choir Auckland are a non-auditioned choir for women and non-binary people. They meet in Freemans Bay most Tuesday nights - message if you'd like to join in or follow for announcements of more amazing choral performance experiences.

Musicians can follow and message for all your Auckland-based solo acoustic live sound needs.

Also look out for additional footage from and - so wonderful to see them both capturing this show.

**GIG REVIEW** Eden Iris Trio, Bunker Hill Unplugged, Devonport, Auckland, 24 Nov 2024. (Slide across for videos!)

The Eden Iris Trio are Eden Iris (lead vocals, guitar), Sarah Charlie Rose (backing vocals, double bass), and Kim Halliday (lead guitar).

All three are outstanding musicians in their own right but together they are a Folk Americana force to be reckoned with!

This was our fourth time seeing them live but the first time we've seen them perform unplugged. The lack of amps and microphones didn't phase them.

Supporting Eden's mesmerising and expressive lead vocals, each track featured Sarah Charlie Rose delivering delicate and emotive vocal harmonies complimented by playful and delightful double bass lines, with Kim Halliday adding beautifully intricate, technically challenging, head turning guitar solos.

Lyrically, Eden's songs are handcrafted works of art, each allowing the listener to become the protagonist with ease. Her audience are immediately drawn into each narrative through her creative, succinct, and descriptive language, which paints very complete and relatable scenarios anyone could adopt.

Paired with original rhythms and harmonies whose powers evoke feelings that heaven really does exist on earth, any review of her work would not be complete without acknowledging Eden has certainly mastered the art of great songwriting.

While this trio have very recently formed and are currently performing songs from Eden's repertoire, we've been told they are planning to write and record new material together and we're looking forward to the outstanding songs that are sure to be on the horizon.

Their next Auckland gig is at Freida Margolis on 15 Jan. Keep an eye out for tickets because we can guarantee it will be the best gig to kick off your 2025.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Outstanding

Eden, Sarah, and Kim - thank you for creating

Keep up with them below:

**ONE TO WATCH** Jack Moser: Opening act review, The Skram Spooktacular - Whammy Bar Auckland, 31 Oct 2024.

We often turn up early to gigs, but it's rare for an opening act to match the calibre of the headliner.

If you read our Skram Spooktacular review, you'll know just how blown away we were by the magnificence that is Skram, but we felt it was only right to dedicate a full post to the outstanding performance of their opening act, Jack Moser.

In a word, Jack Moser is best described as dreamy. You might have seen Jack busking in downtown Auckland, twinkling piano keys and busting out a range of covers and originals with ease. But to see Jack own a stage is a next level experience.

Think Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Diane Warren meeting to write songs with Radiohead and Pink Floyd, building a classic, progressive, and lightly psychedelic, jazz, blues, folk, pop fusion.

When artists present acoustic versions of their songs, it can highlight their strengths, but Jack is clearly a master of both his voice and his piano, channelling talent at equal levels over both disciplines with ease.

Jack's mesmerising vocals are a thing of beauty, raw, emotive, solid, and sincere, carefully controlled with a depth of tone, exploring an extensive range. Paired with exquisite jazz pop piano vibes confidently showcasing impressive technical skill, the whole experience is simply magical.

After we were quite warmed up, Jack dove headfirst into something rather impressive: Your Song by Elton John. When it comes to covers, Your Song seems like an ambitious choice, but Jack owned the stage and performed as if he'd written it himself.

Speaking of originals, Jack's songs are like friends who support one another so well it's tough to single out a favourite, so here's his set list to get you started:

Lying To You*
Where You Are*
Break My Heart Tonight*
Cupcake*
Something In The Air
Your Song (Elton John Cover)
All These Drugs
So Wrong*
I Don't Know Who I Am

*Available on Spotify

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommended for your playlists!

**GIG REVIEW** The Skram Spooktacular - Whammy Bar Auckland, 31 Oct 2024.

We've been to Whammy Bar countless times and seen all levels of artistic brilliance grace that stage but this one wins by miles. We haven't felt this kind of transformational experience since C.R. Avery's NZ tour shows in 2023.

In a nutshell, what you missed was like seeing David Bowie's famous Ziggy Stardust show at the Hammersmith Odeon. It was an absolutely mind-blowing experience.

As huge Bowie fans who've watched that DVD a thousand times, we completely understand the weight of that statement, however, we stand by it 100% and here's why:

Skram transformed that stage during every track. Whether original or cover, Skram's mighty driving force, Henry, took it, owned it, and delivered showmanship in spades, weaving and diving across the stage like it was their home, even Whammy's famous 'always in the way' stage pole became part of the show.

On drums, Felix knocked our socks off! Every swipe at the skins landed with precision and accuracy, channelled by passion and emotion, delivering a level of musicianship that never missed a beat. Think II from Sleep Token.

Most wouldn't look twice at your average keyboard player because if we're honest, they often get drowned out, but not with Dylan at the keys.

Performing a critical role - and all of them really perform - we've never seen a keyboard player own the stage from the side and make such an impact on a band's stage presence.

You'd think everyone would be focused on Henry, but Skram are a team, a Skramily (as they're affectionately known). This was clear in the way this well-oiled machine delivered, and then over delivered to an excited and fully engaged crowd.

Between songs we were informed that Skram had played one gig every week of this year and that they were exhausted. Despite this, Skram transformed the room, crowd in the palm of their hands, allowing them to experience Skram's vibrant and exotic world filled with energetic moves, powerful vocals, and infectious swagger.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easily our Gig of the Year

20/10/2024

**THIS IS IMPRESSIVE** 1 human. 112 songs. 11 albums. 7 singles. Almost 30 years of live performances, relentless touring, and over 40 festival appearances worldwide. Then there are the films, hip hop operas, cabaret shows, neo-expressionist paintings, and stunning books of poetry.

He's currently writing his first novel, recording another new album, and has started production on another epic film. One thing this Canadian outlaw troubadour knows how to do is create.

If this is your introduction to C.R. Avery, then we hope this is the start of a long and loyal journey to embrace his stories and his unique forms of artistic expression. Once you get into it, you'll see he's got wonderful things to say, presented in beautiful ways that are worth listening to.

We've taken the time to review his works, and we hope you'll take the time to explore our reels and grid posts before jumping on your favourite streaming platform or pulling up his channel on YouTube to inject some interesting and thought-provoking art into the soundtrack of your life.

And if you're hunting for some icing to top this most delicious of artistic cakes, we've got some good news! We recently stumbled upon a CD for sale which Avery produced in 2007. It's called Midnight Goldmining and we think this hidden gem might be one of his very first studio recordings.

Because it's only available on CD, and because it is such a fantastic album, we've asked C.R. if he would be interested in remixing and remastering it for a special release and he's keen! So as soon as we can get it sorted, we'll be supporting him to roll out this release so we can give it the credit it deserves. Look out for our review in the coming weeks.
r._avery - you've made us laugh, cry, and you've changed our lives for the better, we love everything you do. Thank you for creating.
