Leadership tip for the day.
Here's Today's Tip... Scrap Multi-Tasking.

If you’re strapped for time, we’re going to let the cat out of the bag right away with the theme of this email: Scrap multi-tasking. Focus on doing one thing at a time. Focus on in-the-moment unitasking.

Unitasking is a practice of immersing yourself fully in the ex*****on of the present moment. It’s an ability to be more fully aware of questions like:

What exactly is happening in this moment?

What do I want to get out of this moment?

What do I need in this moment?

Unitasking involves training—or practicing—the skill of attention, and doing one thing at a time can help you:

Slow down, pay attention and focus. On a path toward any goal and long-term change, focus is essential to success.
Think about what’s truly important to you. A stronger skill of focusing your attention means you get to make more conscious choices about what you give your attention to. After all, you have limited attention; where are you going to invest it?
Lower your stress level. Being able to intentionally direct your attention will help you stay calm and productive during your most stressful times.
You can practice unitasking any time, beginning with seemingly simple tasks like taking out the trash, taking a walk, having a conversation, playing with your child, driving and prepping and eating food.

How can you do those simple tasks without the usual distractions of things like social media, email or texting?

Whatever moment and task you choose to practice with, give it your full attention. Try to minimize or mentally filter other distractions. Then, when that task is fully done, move on to the next thing.

Where and how do you get distracted?

Expect this to be challenging. Challenging is okay. Anything worthwhile, it seems, involves a challenge, which is a gateway to growth.

When you do run into a challenge or experience some resistance, notice and name what comes up for you. After all, the practice is not only meant to give each activity our full loving attention, it’s also to build honest self-awareness. If you do that, you’re winning.

Here's my Leadership tip of the day.. How to shut off the negative voices in your head

We’ve talked before about how YOU can be your own worst enemy through negative self-talk and being overly self-critical. Simply put, what you think becomes reality -- your reality. The good news is that YOU are in control of your mental environment, and when you change the way you think, you gradually master a new way to be. Here are 5 ways to quiet those negative voices in your head.

Be mindful of your tendency to over-emphasize the negative while overlooking the positives. Negative thinking stops us from seeing and experiencing positive outcomes -- even when they happen often. It’s like a mental block that filters our all the positive only letting in the negative, which can be very damaging. Do your best to be mindful of this tendency.

Try not to focus on the extremes. We have a tendency to want to see things in black and white, all or nothing. And most of the time, we view anything less than perfect as being extremely bad. The truth is there’s a lot of grey area in between, and just because something isn’t perfect doesn’t mean it’s a failure or worst-case scenario.

Stop seeking negative signs from others. We are often hasty to jump to negative conclusions, especially when it comes to interpreting signs and communication (or lack thereof) from others. This is especially true in our present digital age where we send short texts, reactions, or don’t respond at all. Jumping to negative conclusions causes us unnecessary worry, pain, frustration, and stress. We can’t assume anything about others, especially they’re doing or thinking.

Identify underlying triggers to negative self-talk. To change the way you think, you have to be mindful of your thoughts. Instead of ignoring negative self-talk or blindly being a slave to it, pay closer attention to it and document it. Write down the thoughts when they come to you, and identify what triggered them.

Change your mantra. A mantra is a usually a word, phrase, image, or sound that’s repeated to improve concentration, focus, and your overall mental landscape. It is often a centerpiece of meditation, but it is a useful tool for abolishing negative self-talk and positive change. Choose a mantra that’s important and relevant to you. The key is to remind yourself that you are good enough!

Leadership tip for the day.. Fight procrastination

How many times have you felt beaten down by an overwhelming list of responsibilities? How often have you told yourself at the 11th hour that would never procrastinate again? How many times have you felt like a deer in headlights when sitting face-to-face with your top-priority project? How often has your perfectionism held you back from moving the needle?

If you grapple with procrastination, if you feel paralyzed by perfectionism, if you put things off, if you find yourself consuming more and more information on a topic (yet never do anything with it)
this could be the most important lesson you ever learn

The famed humorist Mark Twain is credited with saying, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks and starting on the first one.”

The take-home point is that you must take action, and often, any action will do. As Craig Ballantyne says, “Action beats anxiety. Motion beats meditation. Work beats worry.”

Action typically precedes motivation. And often, all it takes is tiny action to help us bust out of a procrastination rut and feeling stuck. Most of the time, getting started is the hardest part.

And frequently, once we push through the first few minutes of resistance, we’re rolling because small actions create momentum. Spending just 5 minutes on one tiny task can snowball into bigger, more meaningful action. Because action is empowering and satisfying.

The more you act, the better, more inspired and more energized you’ll feel
and that will feed forward to making you feel more ready, willing and able to take more action.

The key, as Twain so perfectly put it, is getting started. As Jack Canfield is credited as saying, “You don’t have to get it perfect, you just have to get it going.”

Twain also said, “If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first.”

In other words, take action immediately, before the chaos of the day takes over, and begin your day by “getting started” on your top priority.

Have a great day

Ben

Here's Today's leadership Tip... Don’t Listen to Naysayers.

Achieving a successful life of significance isn’t easy. It’s a constant uphill climb, and along the way, you’re sure to cross paths with your fair share of naysayers, or what the cool kids call haters or trolls.

As a matter of fact, having a contingent of haters is probably a good sign that you’re on the right track. But even though it’s normal doesn’t make it any easier to deal with the doubt and soul-sucking negativity.

If you’re human, any shadow of a doubt can deter you from leading the life of significance that you were born to live. Since entertaining the negativity of naysayers can stall, if not completely thwart, your progress, we wanted to share 7 top ways to deal with haters and forge ahead for success!

Maintain a clear vision. You have to make sure your compass is always pointing in the right direction. You’ve got to have goals, baby. A clear vision not only provides the ultimate litmus test, it also helps keep you centered.

Keep haters in perspective. We have a tendency to focus on the negatives. Instead of reflecting on all our successes and the countless votes of support and encouragement, we tend to think about that one negative voice. Block that out, and instead, highlight the bright spots.

Not everyone with a different viewpoint is a hater. When we view everyone with a different viewpoint as a naysayer, we’re selling ourselves (and them) short. Constructive criticism is tremendously important for personal and professional growth, and sometimes, the people who tell us what we need to hear (but don’t want to hear) are the folks who care for us most.

Don’t apologize to haters. You may think that haters will go away if you apologize, but that’s like adding fuel to a fire. To them, apologizing means they win, and not only don’t they deserve that, it also means they’re likely to heat up even more.

Don’t let past hurts and fears influence your reaction today. If you were ever bullied as a child, there’s no question that insecurities can impact how you feel today when met with naysayers. Learn to look at what is happening through your mature, experienced adult eyes—not your hurt child eyes.

Keep a “success file” for those tough days. Some days are harder—much harder—than others to deal with criticism. These are the types of days when a success file comes in super handy.

A success file is a place where you keep positive, encouraging notes, emails, cards, letters and the like. These are affirmations that can help remind you that the good far outweighs the bad—so much so that it’s laughable.

Feel empathy for haters. Unfortunately, most naysayers might appear to be pathetic, sad, lonely people who can only feel something by bringing others down. It may seem odd, but lift them up, as you may not understand what they are going through, send them love and hope that things will get better.

Make it a great day!

Leadership tip for the day.. Create an abundance mindset. 👇👇👇

“If you look at what you have in life, you will always have more. If you look at what you don’t have in life, you will never have enough.”- Oprah Winfrey

Are you the type of person who has a difficult time sharing recognition, credit, power, profit, and your time? Do you have a hard time being genuinely happy for the success of other people?

Or, instead of operating with a scarcity mentality, do you embrace an abundance mindset, which can radically change the way you learn, how you handle stress, how you create success, your resiliency, and even how your immune system functions?

Stephen Covey coined the term abundance mentality, or abundance mindset, in his 1989 best-seller The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. He defined the term simply as “a concept in which a person believes there are enough resources and successes to share with others.”

He contrasts it with the scarcity mindset (i.e., destructive and unnecessary competition), which is founded on the idea that, if someone else wins or is successful in a situation, that means you lose; not considering the possibility of all parties winning (in some way or another) in a given situation.

Since that time, fostering an abundance mindset has become widely recognized as a beneficial endeavor in personal and spiritual development. The prevailing belief is that creating an abundance mindset allows you to:

Live an unlimited, full, and satisfying life..
Exude happiness despite circumstance
Give and receive affections and items of high value with ease..
Feel plentiful, creative, and inspired..
Take full advantage of and enjoy new opportunities that come your way..
Create memorable and meaningful life experiences..
Feel secure and confident in your life endeavors and create successful outcomes..

Here are 10 ways you can create an abundance mindset today:

Become aware and mindful of your thoughts.

Practice gratitude.

Recognize the unlimited possibilities.

Cultivate and share your passions and purpose.

Develop mastery experiences.

Watch the language that you use.

Concentrate on growth.

Think like a beginner.

Focus on what is going right.

Create abundance affirmations.

While it may not be completely natural at first, anyone can begin to create an abundance mindset and live a meaningful and fulfilling life by taking consistent action. You can make the decision to start living a life of healthy abundance today, as you begin to expand your awareness and notice any scarcity mentality that might arise.

Using these action steps, you will be well on your way toward creating an abundance mindset.

To Your Journey...
