On November 10, 2023, Liceo del Verbo Divino Inc., was one of the five schools in Tacloban City that participated in the Economic and Financial Literacy Fusion Fest -Mabulig Ako! Challenge Quiz Bee, hosted by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), and the University of the Philippines Tacloban College Economics Society (UPTC EcoSoc).

The purpose of the said event was to: (1) assess the prior knowledge of the Senior High School students on the basic Economic and Financial Literacy Concepts, Socioeconomic Development, Eastern Visayas Regional Development Plan 2023-2028, and Eastern Visayas Facts and Figures, and (2) to develop critical thinking, time management, and teamwork among the participants. The quiz bee consisted of two parts: Elimination Round-Jeopardy and the Do or Die.

Selected ABM students from Grade 12 Our Lady of Manaoag, with their coach who was also a player and part of the contest, bagged 2nd Place (1st Runner Up). Meanwhile, San Jose National High School won 3rd Place (2nd Runner Up), and Scandinavian National High School were declared champions.

The participants and their coach expressed their gratitude and shared their experiences and insights regarding the competition.

During an interview, Jolina Marybeth Asio said, "The contest was so fun, memorable and so challenging at the same time. It was frustrating whenever our team didn't get to first ring the buzzer, we lost hope and no longer expected much. However, the tables turned as we bet our points and got back on track during the Do or Die round."

Furthermore, Sarah Kristine Tan stated, โ€œI was actually losing hope for our team seeing that our co-competitors are " so lamang" already. But, I am so grateful to Almighty God for blessing us with the strength to continue working hard, and the opportunity to strike back and eventually, win 2nd place in the end, which was very unexpected. I would also like to thank and acknowledge our coach, Ma'am Zybel Rosales. We wouldn't have made it without her presence and support.โ€

Sylla Michaella Cesista added, "Being a part of this competition allowed us to showcase our academic skills and teamwork. Through the challenges and triumphs of this competition, we have not only expanded our knowledge but also forged long-lasting bonds. I would also like to thank my teammates for allowing and trusting me to be their team captain. This win is not just a title; it is a symbol of our collective dedication to learning, growth, and the pursuit of excellence. May this achievement inspire us all to continue reaching for the stars and making our school proud."

Ms. Zybel Rosales, the team's coach, also shared, "For me, there were two things that really made this quiz bee unique and memorable. First, there's the fact that coaches were part of the competition, not just as mentors but also as players. I felt twice the pressure that my students did. Second, it was unforgettable when we really thought and accepted we would just be in third place. However, we managed to win second place in the end. The last question during the Do or Die round, on which we've bet all of our points, really had a significant impact on our final score and placing. As their coach and mentor, I am so proud that they managed to handle the pressure by working together which was indeed a big accomplishment. It's an honor to have been their coach and to work with these amazing Divinians."

Participants and their coaches received certificates and medals as a token of recognition.

Last November 8, 2013, the people of the Philippines experienced one of the most powerful tropical cyclones in history that killed thousands of people, Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), as it unleashed its power in Leyte and the rest of the Eastern Visayas. This tragedy caused fear in peopleโ€™s eyes, the terrified and helpless faces seeking help upon seeing their homes that have been crashed down, and their loved ones who fought for their lives. All could see the darkness of the skies, the ones who were hurt, the heart-wrenching sight of nature, and the sadness of the atmosphere. It was a total disaster. But Yolanda's memory served as a reminder of the indomitable spirit and unity that emerged from the darkest of times, as communities came together to rebuild and heal.

As we remember this day, let us honor the heroes who selflessly helped their fellow citizens and the global community that extended a helping hand. The legacy of Typhoon Yolanda lies not only in the sorrowful stories of loss but also in the stories of hope, compassion, and the unbreakable human spirit. Let us extend our prayers to the beloved souls that have made memories with their families and friends, to remain peaceful and safe in His kingdom.

May this commemoration inspire us to work together, across borders and boundaries, to confront the climate challenges of our time and ensure that the lessons learned from Yolanda's devastation lead to a brighter, more resilient future for all.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š | On November 7, 2022, marks the opening of English Month with a theme: "English as a global language: bridging cultures, connecting the world", at the LVD Twin Building.

To celebrate the launching event, students from different departments showcased their costumes based on book or movie characters and Greek gods and goddesses.

The activities for this month are as follows: world literature characters presentation, literary poster-making contest, spelling bee, essay writing, extemporaneous speaking, declamation, draw and tell, spoken word poetry, and verse choir.

In an interview, Ms. Analyn Geraldo mentioned that she doesn't have much expectation for this event but she hopes that the English department will accomplish the necessary activities for the entire month of November and everyone will enjoy.

"Based on the opening, I saw the excitement and happiness of the students and teachers wearing their costumes. I hope that we sustain this eagerness of the students/participants in every contest we have prepared," she added.

She also said that it would be appreciated if everyone would participate, enjoy, and learn during the celebration of English Month.

"Because the main goal is to create awareness, enhance language skills, and foster a deeper appreciation for the English language and its global impact," she added.

Fostering the essence of solidarity, a Team Building Activity consisting of 12 Tribes fiercely battled through different interactive and challenging stations, on Day 2 of the 3-Day Camping Activity, October 21, 2023, at Liceo del Verbo Divino Inc.

The teams for this year's camping activity are Tribu Ibaloi, Maranao, Higaonon, Manobo, Igorot, Lumad, Badjao, Tumandok, Tagbanwa, Mangyan, Aetas, and Ivatan which are derived from various indigenous and ethnic groups in the Philippines.

"For every station that we accomplished. At first, it was more of a challenge, because all of us did not know each other. We did not have the coordination at first. But, whenever I would step in, they would always get to listen. And that is the best part that I have encountered and Iโ€™m thankful for my tribu, they listen. Amo an akon thankful ha ira," said Irvin Chris Conde from Tribu Badjao.

Mr. Conde also added he always prioritized the safety of his teammates over winning, "Every station na amon na accomplish, waray ako hadto labot kun naiiha kami ngadto. Basta an akon gusto, ma-accomplish nira, okay hira, waray haira nasasamad."

"I was assigned to station 10 and our game wasโ€“we call it โ€˜Unity Walkโ€™ where the campers would walk underneath a plyboard, and on top of the plyboard were plastic cups filled with water. And this game actually challenges their teamwork and their unity because they have to walk at the same pace. They have to stand at the same height. So that the cups wonโ€™t topple down, otherwise you have to repeat the entire thing," said Mr. Dean Brando Cinco Facilitator of Station 10.

Emphasizing unity, he also mentioned that the game can relate to us being in school, "We have to help each other so that we can have a stable community. Otherwise, if one gets to the top, the others will topple down, or if one goes down, everything will topple down. So, it's a great metaphor for equality and unity. Unity in diversity, kahit nagkakaiba iba tayo we all have to adjust so that we can create a stable community, in the school- not only in the school but for the entire society."

Mr. Robbie Siozon, the champion team's opposition whip, and the Debate Captain of the League of Debaters had said, "A lot of the debaters today were their first time joining a debate competition but to me, it seemed like they've done debating at least once or twice with the level of confidence they delivered their speech."

He also added that it's okay to pause and stutter sometimes, "With practice eventually you'll become more fluent and confident as time goes by."

The said event was attended by students from the different departments and was organized by the SSM Elementary, Junior High School and Senior High School departments.

The celebration started with a warm welcome for the teachers as they walked down the red carpet and received a red rose.

Breathtaking presentations, such as dancing, singing, and a live band were performed by the students and teachers. After every performance, the teachers were advised to stand in front of the audience to collect the gifts and flowers prepared by their students.

Mr. Harris Jay M. Hubilla, a Computer and Techno Robots teacher, said in an interview that he truly appreciates all the effort and hard work the SSM team has put into it.

"It was really a surprise for me and I had fun during the event, the red carpet, the performances, the presence of the students, and the souvenir that the SSM prepared was really awesome", he added.

Ms. Marielle Faye Bautista, the General Assistant servant of the Junior High School SSM mentioned that the event was great despite the difficulties and misunderstandings during the program.
"But Iโ€™m just glad that we made it through the end of the program and we got to honor our teachers. We will take this as a lesson and as an experience so that in the next few events we will be stronger so that students will have fun as well as our teachers,", she added.

The General Servant of the Senior High School SSM Department, Carl Vincent Baldevia, also admitted that the obstacle they faced in organizing the event was time.

โ€œNotable was the expression of our beloved teachers as they walked home packed with a mix of emotions of happiness and confusion from the performance that was dedicated to them, plus the souvenir that was given, which was unexpected,", he added.

As the celebration drew to a close, the teachers received souvenirs and snacks as a token of appreciation for their hard work.

In addition, she shared that starting was a little tricky at first but they found the process of learning the dance amusing.

Also, Kyzelle Ozoa from Our Lady of La Salette stated in an interview: โ€œEverything was not anticipated as weโ€™ve described the process as a rollercoaster ride with a series of ups and downs.โ€

She added that great things come unexpectedly, and performing brought them an extreme feeling of contentment that they surrendered everything to what fate would bring for them.
