➤ আমাদের সততার গভীরতা ঠিক কতটা?

এভাবে বলছি কেন? কারণ দৈনন্দিন জীবনে আমরা সবাই নিজেকে সৎ, উদার বা মহান হিসাবে প্রকাশে সদা তৎপর থাকি। কিন্তু তা বহাল থাকে যতক্ষণ নিজের গায়ে আঁচড় না লাগে। নিষ্ঠুর বাস্তবতা সামনে এসে দাঁড়ালে আমরা খােলস ফেলে স্বরূপে আবির্ভূত হই।

ন্যাশনাল জিওগ্রাফির এক মাইন্ড গেমে দর্শকদের এ-রকম পরিস্থিতির মুখােমুখি দাঁড় করানাে হয়। ঘটনাটি ছিল এমন: এক রেললাইনের ওপর চারজন বসে গল্প করছে। সেদিকে এক ট্রেন প্রচণ্ড গতিতে ধেয়ে আসছে, তারা বেখেয়াল । ট্রেনের গতিপথ বদলে দেবার সুইচ আপনার হাতে। দেখলেন বিকল্প লাইনে এক ব্যক্তি আনমনে হেঁটে যাচ্ছে। এমন পরিস্থিতিতে আপনি কোন লাইনে ট্রেনটি চালাবেন?

সব উত্তরদাতা বলেছিল: চারজনকে বাঁচাতে, একজন যে লাইনে হাঁটছে- সেদিকে ট্রেনের মুখ ঘুরিয়ে দেবেন। কিন্তু পরের প্রশ্নটা তাদের থমকে দেয়। বলা হলাে: কিন্তু ভালাে করে দেখে নিশ্চিত হলেন- সেটা আপনার সন্তান! এবার কী করবেন? বিস্ময়করভাবে সবাই নিজেদের উত্তর বদলে ফেলেছিলেন! বলেছিলেন, চার কেন একশজনকে মারতে হলেও নিজের সন্তানকে বাঁচাবেন! বুঝতে পারছেন, আমরা কতক্ষণ সৎ ও নিরপেক্ষ থাকি?অন্যের সন্তানকে খুন করে কিংবা অসংখ্য মানুষকে বিপদে ফেলে নিজের পরিবারের জন্য সম্পদের পাহাড় গড়ার ব্যাখ্যা খুব সম্ভবত এই এক্সপেরিমেন্টের মধ্যেই নিহিত রয়েছে।

পোশাক কি স্মার্টনেসের নির্দেশক?

অনেকেই মনে করেন ছােট পােশাক পরাই বুঝি স্মার্টনেস। আমরাও ছােটবেলায় তেমনটাই ভাবতাম। কিন্তু হলিউড ও বলিউডে চলচ্চিত্র তারকাদের বড় অনুষ্ঠানগুলাে (যেমন- অস্কার, কান, ফিল্মফেয়ার অ্যাওয়ার্ড) দেখতে গিয়ে সেই ধারণায় চিড় ধরে।
সেগুলােতে কে কত সংক্ষিপ্ত (অথবা টাইট) পােশাকে হাজির হবে তা নিয়ে নায়িকাদের মধ্যে রীতিমতাে লড়াই চলে।

কিন্তু বিস্ময়করভাবে নায়কেরা পর্দাপ্রথা একটু বেশিই মেনে চলে! তাদের মুখমণ্ডল ও হাতের কব্জিছাড়া শরীরের আর কোনাে অংশ দেখা যায় না! এমনকি বাে টাই (Bow tie) দিয়ে ঢেকে রাখতে সচেষ্ট হয়। আচ্ছা, সংক্ষিপ্ত পােশাকই স্মার্টনেসের প্রতীক হলে নায়কেরা হাফপ্যান্ট ও স্যান্ডাে গেঞ্জি পরে ওসব অনুষ্ঠানে আসে না কেন?

তাছাড়া ভ্যাপসা গরমের মধ্যেও স্যুট-কোট-টাই পরে অফিস যাওয়া বড় সাহেবেরা কত্ত আনস্মার্ট অপরদিকে, গ্রামাঞ্চলের কৃষকেরা হলাে সবচেয়ে স্মার্ট ব্যক্তি। কারণ খালি গায়ে লুঙ্গি কাছা (ধড়ি) মেরে তারা নিজেদের কর্মক্ষেত্রে (মাঠে) যায়! এসব দেখে স্বভাবতই মনে প্রশ্ন জাগে- পােশাকের আকৃতি-প্রকৃতিই কি স্মার্টনেসের সত্যিকারের ধারক-বাহক? নাকি ব্যক্তিত্বের অন্যান্য উপাদানের ঘাটতি থেকে দৃষ্টি অন্যদিকে ফেরাতেই (কিছু মানুষ) ছােটখাটো পােশাকের আশ্রয় নেয়?

ভারতের সাবেক রাষ্ট্রপতি এপিজে আব্দুল কালাম, ড. মুহাম্মদ ইউনুস, মমতা বন্দোপাধ্যায়, অধ্যাপক আব্দুল্লাহ আবু সায়ীদ, হুমায়ূন আহমেদ, প্রফেসর অরুণ কুমার বসাক, ড. সিরাজুল ইসলাম চৌধুরীর মতাে অসংখ্য কীর্তিমান মানুষকে কখনাে পােশাকের প্রতি আলাদাভাবে মনােযােগী হতে দেখলাম না। তাই বলে তারা কি যথেষ্ঠ স্মার্ট নন?
