The Moon, Jupiter and Saturn are aligning Friday night (28th August). Melbourne weather is also looking great for stargazing. So the Moon will be in the top left, and then you’ll get Jupiter, and then you’ll get Saturn. This is one celestial event that you’ll actually be able to see with the naked eye from anywhere in Australia. You won’t have to stay up until stupid-o’clock to see it.
If you are not very familiar with directions, here is an easier way to spot Jupiter and Saturn.
- Download a free app such as SkyView Lite either on your iPhone or Android phone.
- When you have Sky View open, click on search option on top right.
- Type in Jupiter – You should see an arrow pointing to Jupiter.
- Jupiter should be visible around 30 minutes after Sunset. Use the same search option to find Saturn.
