G20 leadership and opportunities

G20 leadership definitely has its perks. At least as per PM Narendra Modi's plans.

Leveraging its current leadership position at G20, India is planning on hosting world leaders across multiple states within the country. This will help the world leaders (especially in west) and the international media to get culturally familiarized with India. Cultural understanding apart this will showcase the unique capabilities that every region has to offer from economic perspective as well. When done properly will prompt us to showcase local industries, schools , universities, and partnership opportunities.

Hopefully better understanding of the society will result in reduced Hinduphobic attitude of western press as well.

India launched a new ocean monitoring satellite on Saturday morning, using its PSLV rocket to deliver the EOS-06 spacecraft into a low Earth orbit.

The satellite’s primary role is to monitor the color of the ocean surface and to collect data on wind speed and direction over the surface. This allows scientists to monitor conditions, such as the distribution of chlorophyll in the world’s seas, phytoplankton blooming, and chemicals and minerals present in the water.

Know your roots

This article in Tamil attempts to draw parallels between social norms that existed in Tamilnadu and rest of India during ancient days.

From the context of responding to recent Manu Smriti controversy (as practices being North Indian import to Tamilnadu) the author Kothai Jyothilakshmi attempts to throw light on commonalities of Sanatana dharma across India through ancient Tamil texts.

From discussing topics ranging from Karma to establishing prevalence of Sati (not justifying it) through ancient Tamil texts such as Pura naanooru (புறநானூறு - Written sometime around 2nd century CE), the author does a neat job in making common man understand similarities of social norms across ancient India.

Article also has a book recommendation for those who are interested. Thirukural, An Abridgement of Sastras by renowned archeologist / Padmabhusan Dr.R.Nagaswamy
