A LOCAL magistrate has condemned to 52 years in prison a Karoi man who had embarked on a spree of committing heinous crimes ranging from r**e, robbery, attempted murder, unlawful entry and stock theft.

Bright Zaranyika (23) alias Svosve was facing 33 counts and pleaded guilty to 31 of them when he appeared before Magistrate Jessie Kufa at Karoi Regional Court, last week.

The state then applied for the separation of two counts that Zaranyika denied, which will be dealt with soon.

Following the accused person’s conviction, prosecutor Wadzanai Madzorera pleaded with the court for a deterrent custodial sentence for the accused person, who had gone on a crime o**y and wreaked havoc in communities.

The presiding magistrate sentenced Zaranyika to a total 52 years effective to issue a stern warning to would-be offenders.

Court heard the string of crimes were perpetrated between November 28, 2022, and June 5, 2023, in Makonde, Hurungwe and Karoi.

In one of his escapades, Zaranyika, on April 2 last year, proceeded to Chiware village, Chief Chanetsa in Hurungwe and drove two oxen from Angeline Mufema’s kraal and took them to Makonde.

*8 Karoi Council Officials Arrested For Corruptly Allocating Themselves Properties*

*EIGHT* Karoi Town Council officials, including the chairperson, five councillors and two employees, have been arrested for corruptly allocating themselves properties.

They allegedly allocated themselves residential and commercial stands without following procedures and awarded each other unapproved travelling and subsistence (T&S) allowances.

Town secretary, Wellington Mutikani, on suspension over other allegations, was back in court facing four counts of corruptly allocating himself four residential stands.

He is also accused of awarding himself a tender between 2015 and 2021.

Council chairperson, councillor Abel Matsika, is also facing allegations of unlawfully allocating himself a residential stand.

Five other Karoi councillors, Stewart Jena, Nicholas Murwira, Rangarirai Hungwe, Thomas Mbiri and Kenson Kamuponda were also arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZAAC) on allegations of awarding themselves unapproved T&S allowances.

The other accused, Hastings Makunda, an administration officer, also faces allegations of unlawfully allocating himself a residential stand.

All the accused appeared at Karoi Magistrates Court Thursday and Friday and were released on bail with varying conditions each

We have another exciting event took place in Karoi around March last year (2020). It is all about OK Zimbabwe wholesale. Thanks to the Anglican Church Diocese of Harare(CPCA). This church owned the ground and refused to sell it to the interested parties. They decided to built a commercial structure. By doing so OK Zimbabwe emerged as the best tender for the deal. So the Church built a nice building structure under the instruction from OK Zimbabwe. It was opened last year during lock down period.

That building is now regarded as the best and beautiful wholesale as compared to all OK wholesales and it also surpass all wholesales buildings such Bon Marche, TM, Choppies Spar, Mage Save, N Richard's group and etc. No any other wholesale around the the country can be compared to OK Zimbabwe (Karoi) . In terms of size is second largest building, only smaller to OK Zimbabwe (Mbare).

Currently, the same company is busy building structures for their second branch in Karoi. This branch is located at 2km outside the town just after Puma Service Station or opposite Kazangarare Turn Off.

Lastly in the to***co marketing industry. We have newcomers this year called Boost Africa To***co Company . This company is busy building structures. Currently they are working on foundation but all other materials are on ground. They are also GMB neighbors.
