But the science wasn’t there. Twenty-eight years later, an arrest would be made. This is the case of Sarah Yarborough.

To the ones who were taken, we miss you
To the ones who survived, we support you
To the ones who saved others, we look up to you
To the ones who cleaned up, we thank you
And for all of us, we took turns being strong and then being weak
And we will never forget

My one year old daughter and I were in the kitchen, having morning coffee and breakfast with my in-laws. My husband at the time was sleeping off his overnight shift. After the second tower was hit, we decided to wake him up. We live on Long Island, and though we did not personally know any victims, we grieved for the friends of our friends, and were in awe of those who continually showed up at Ground Zero.

It was a Tuesday, sandwiched between his birthday a few days prior, and then mine a few days coming. We were supposed to go to the TIX booth that Thursday at the WTC for cheap theater tickets to celebrate. Instead, we, and every one we knew, walked around in a daze of confusion, anger, fear, and heartache.

What was your experience that day?

“Twenty years ago, we made a promise to the families of World Trade Center victims to do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to identify their loved ones, and with these two new identifications, we continue to fulfill that sacred obligation" - NYC Chief Medical Examiner Barbara A. Sampson

More than 1,000 people who died in the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001, have never been officially identified.

Not interested in your own DNA report but are down with solving cold cases?

This is a great article and announcement by David Mittelman, from Othram. They have a great alternative for those who are not interested in paying for the whole sha-bang that the bigger DNA analysis companies offer. DNA Solves Connect will get your swab, create a profile and put it in their database strictly for investigations by law enforcement. There is a charge, but it’s only $14.99 which I think is pretty good. Someone needs to pay for the lab testing, after all. However, you’re not getting your profile report back. Alternatively, if you already have your DNA done, you just upload it to their site, like on GEDmatch. Guess what I’m doing today?

We need efficient and cost-effective ways to match families of missing persons to the unidentified. Time is not on our side.
