Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was picked by the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Zalmi for the league's eighth edition which has kicked off today amid a celebratory fervour in Multan.

The franchise has picked Hasan, who captained Fortune Barishal in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) this year, in their reserved supplementary pick.

The Bangladesh cricketer will join the Zalmi squad tonight and will be available for selection in the team's first match with Karachi Kings at the National Bank Cricket Arena on February 14 in Karachi.

"Peshawar Zalmi have drafted Shakib Al Hasan as reserved supplementary pick. He will be available for selection in Tuesday’s match versus KK. He’s available until 26 Feb," the Pakistan Cricket Board announced.
Taking to its official Twitter handle, Peshawar Zalmi, too, shared the news with its followers deeming Hasan as the 'Tiger' returning to the for Pakistan's mega cricket event.

Indus Motor Company Limited on Monday announced 74 per cent decline in after tax profit for the first half of fiscal year 2022-2023.

The company, the assembler of Toyota cars in Pakistan, declared Rs2.63 billion for the half year ended December 31, 2022 as compared with Rs10.17 billion in the corresponding half of the last fiscal year.

Indus Motor declared Rs33.43 as earnings per share (EPS) for the period July – December 2022 as against EPS of Rs129.45 in the same period of the last year.

The board of directors of the company in their meeting held on Friday, February 10, 2023 recommended an interim cash dividend for the quarter ended December 31, 2022 at Rs10.20 per share i.e. 102 per cent. This is in addition to the first interim cash dividend of Rs8.20 per share i.e. 82 per cent, already paid.

The flight, scheduled for next year, could be the first lunar journey by humans since 1972.

The proposed fly-by would see a spacecraft circle the moon, coming within 200km (124 miles) of the surface. The trip would take eight days from launch to return.

However, US regulators are yet to give permission for the Starship rocket from Elon Musk's SpaceX company that the crew is supposed to travel on.

The ship has not even been approved for an orbital journey around the Earth and has been grounded for the past 18 months in Texas, after it completed a test launch in May 2021.

Twitter Blue plan is on halt right now but when it resumes you will have to pay an increased price of $11 per month if you subscribe from iOS, according to a report from The Information.

The report noted that the subscription plan will cost $7 per month if you purchase from the web. But it will be costlier on iOS to offset Apple’s App Store fees. Notably, Apple charges 30% fees to the developers for the first year of subscription, but it drops to 15% from the second year.
When Twitter launched its new subscription plan with a verification mark on November 9, it charged users $7.99 per month. If Twitter were to offset App Store fees, it should charge $10.38 — but the new price change of $11 sounds like a rounded-off figure.

Twitter owner Elon Musk recently went on a tirade against Apple for pausing advertisements on Twitter, alleging them of hating “free speech in America.” Musk also accused the tech giant of threatening to “withhold Twitter from its App Store.” However, after Musk met Tim Cook on a tour of Apple’s Cupertino campus, all things went back to being good and dandy.

The Biden administration has placed ten companies in Pakistan and the UAE for supporting the nu*lear activities of the South Asian country.

It said that 10 companies in Pakistan and UAE posed unacceptable risks of using or diverting items for Pakistan's nu*lear activities or are involved Pakistan's "nu*lear activities and m*ssile proliferation-related activities."

The ten firms are the total 24 companies added to an export control list for aiding Russia’s military or defense industrial base or for supplying an Iranian electronics company.

The US Commerce Department said that the entities, based in Latvia, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore and Switzerland, has been place on the list due to US national security and foreign policy concerns.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Monday lauded Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja for his services toward spearheading cricket in the country since assuming office.

"Ramiz Raja has done a great job as PCB chairman," the prime minister said during his address at a dinner hosted for the Pakistan and England teams currently playing a three-match Test series.

"I was young in a government college and his [Raja] father was then additional commissioner Lahore and he was a great fan of cricket. We used to get free cricket passes from his father. That's how we know each other," the prime minister recalled.

This was the first time that the premier and PCB chairman met since the former assumed office in April this year.

The consistent depreciation of the rupee is deepening the economic crisis in the country said the Pakistan Business Forum (PBF), as its leaders called upon the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to take necessary measures to stop market speculation and resolve the issue.

“High inflation, unemployment and low profitability continue to plague the business community and despite that the government has withdrawn its electricity concession given to exporters and is projected to increase the levy on petrol and diesel to Rs50 per litre by January 2023. Adding to their miseries, the government is also considering imposing GST – all negative indicators for the country’s economy,” he added.

“Even bond and currency markets, which had shown more confidence in Pakistan after the IMF deal, are pricing in high once again over concerns of the country defaulting on its foreign debt,” said Jawad.

“Since the end of August, the yields on some of the government’s international bonds have jumped by a third, while the currency is one of the worst performing in Asia,” reads the statement.

“Is it not shameful for Pakistan that we rejoice in repaying the $1 billion Sukuk, but don’t take any steps to save the dollars we are wasting. Using daylight will save $3.5 billion,” claimed the PBF CEO.

“We still have foreign debt of $130 billion and $73 billion due in three years. Our deficit for next three years is a minimum of $20 to $30 billion. Additionally, super inflation is killing the poor. This is a financial emergency,” lamented Jawad.

Pakistani Ambassador to America Masood Khan on Tuesday said that Pakistan will be included in the top 10 economic powers of the globe by 2047 .
While addressing a speech at the event in Washington D.C, Masood Khan said Pakistan has the 23rd largest economy on the basis of Public Private Partnership (PPP) and 42nd in terms of nominal GDP.
In the last two decades, the poverty in Pakistan has reduced from 64% to 24% which was a clear indication that the nation is moving towards improvement, said Masood Khan.
He said that new and ground-breaking business ecosystems are being unlocked in Pakistan.
The tech sector is witnessing exponential growth with the potential to become an alternative startup hub in the neighborhood, he said.
Pakistan’s population is in line with the needs of emerging economy, he said. However, despite the difficulties, Pakistan’s economy has the potential to grow and develop rapidly.

At least 14,000 litres of Iranian oil and petrol ‘vanished’ during a joint operation of the Customs and Matyari police on National Highway, sources reported on Friday.

The police sources claimed that the Customs and Matyari police had seized 36,000 litres of Iranian oil and petrol from a container going to Daulatpur from Karachi on national highway.

However, according to the receipt the container was carrying 50,000 litres of Iranian petrol and oil.

It shows that 14,000 liters of Iranian oil worth Rs3 million had allegedly been vanished from the container by police and customs officers.

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized large haul of hashish in a raid in hilly terrain of Gwadar.

The ANF on an intelligence report, conducted a raid in hilly area of Gwadar in Balochistan and foiled smuggling bid of 1400 KG of hashish, which was being carried on camels to Gwadar for onward smuggling to overseas by sea, a spokesperson said.

The anti-narcotics officials in a raid recovered 68 grams of w**d at International Mail Office in Rawalpindi, in a parcel from London.
