With my daughter on her school’s pep squad, we tend to want food that is fast and delicious after Friday night games.

is the perfect spot for our family and it’s kind of become our new tradition at the moment.

This is my go to. It simple burritos with chorizo and beans inside, topped with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and a whole lot of their white cheese sauce!

Let me just say that I’m never going home hungry after this!

To me this is my comfort food, and will always remind me of our Friday family fun nights!

Scallion bubble pancakes anyone?

2 great things about this. The first is popping the bubble and watch the steam come out as you waft in the aroma.

The 2nd is breaking off pieces and eating this along with whatever your main dish is. The beautiful thing is that the flavor is mild and reminds me of naan or roti. Lovely chewy texture and balances out the flavor of whatever it is you choose to eat with it!

A few days ago I posted the spread we had for Christmas, but I felt like this prime rib needed a post of its own.

I mean look at how beautiful it looks. And the juiciness, tenderness and flavor from the brine made this such a delicious piece of meat to hold down the “turf” side of our surf and turf dinner.

Shoutout to my father in law for treating this meat right!

If you follow my page long enough, you know that I love crispy pork belly. I know my arteries hate me for it but I’m a weak man and I have no willpower 🤣

This version of it was with the numbing flavor commonly found in Szechuan cuisine and let me tell you, it takes it to a whole other level!

The cut of this belly was also slightly different in that it didn’t have a ton of fat, and yet it was still crispy, flavorful and “melty”? You know what I mean! Haha

For I’m reminiscing about one of my Christmas meals back home.

Prime rib, crab legs, gooey mac and cheese, and scalloped potatoes made this one epic meal.

Needless to say I was knocked out from a food coma shortly after 🤣.

To close out this week of posts, here is a picture of one of my all time favorite breakfast meats - longanisa!

This sausage style meat is often served with vinegar and is usually accompanied with rice and eggs to make one sweet and comforting breakfast.

With that said, I will eat this any time, any day!

You can grab these at most Asian grocery stores and it’s pretty easy to cook. So next time you happen to see this, be sure and grab some and have yourself a merry little breakfast!

Day 2 of our Filipino food fun during our trip to Va Beach!

Now this dish is called Dinuguan and is often referred to as “chocolate meat” when being introduced to those unfamiliar with the dish.

The reason being is that although it tastes absolutely delicious, the dish is actually stew made of pork blood and diced pork. Some variations even include the pork intestine.

If you can get your mind past the ingredients then trust me when I say you will be pleasantly surprised at how delicious this dish is.

So next time a Filipino friend introduces you to “chocolate meat” you can chuckle because you know what it really is and can appreciate it in all its bloody splendor!

I apologize in advance, but you will be blasted with Filipino food pics for the next few days.

While in Virginia Beach we went to and had such a delicious meal.

This first dish is an appetizer called Tokwa’t Baboy which is fried tofu with onions in vinegar sauce.

The texture of the fried tofu is like a sponge with a firm texture on the outside. I love that it sops up the vinegar sauce and of course the onions make it a perfect medley.

If you ever see this at a Filipino restaurant, definitely give it a whirl!

When in Va Beach, we always go crazy and try to get as much Filipino cuisine as we can since we don’t get it much in the Triangle.

This is an ube and cheese muffin from which was part of our bakery haul one day.

I don’t know why Filipinos put cheese in their desserts but all I can say is I LOVE it! It must be in our genetic makeup 🤣🤣

As you all probably already know I’m a huge sushi lover!

More specifically I absolutely love devouring loads of nigiri.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So Mr. Tokyo’s all you can eat sushi holds a special place in my heart. They speak my LOVE language!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And since the entire fam loves sushi just as much as I do, this is probably the most regular place we go to in order to get our sushi fix!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m ok with always ordering Chicken Tikka Masala whenever I go to an Indian restaurant because gosh darn it, I love it so much!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

makes it oh so good! And I have to say, the customer service was fantastic!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

One of my favorite authentic Chinese spots (I’m lookin at you red menu!) in Carrboro is Gourmet Kingdom.

This is the place to go if you want to go beyond the General Tzos chicken and dive into some great Chinese cuisine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pictured here is our favorite noodle dish - Dan Dan Noodles.

Something about the red chili oil and how the noodles just don’t end make this one heck of a texture and flavor party in your mouth!

Recently I was able to do a “Taste of Asia” night with some friends.

We brought this common, but delicious, party fish called pancit palabok as our Filipino contribution.

Our Malaysian friends brought Malaysian style buttered shrimp (pic 2), and our Korean friends brought homemade Korean BBQ (pic 3).

I can’t tell you how fun it was to eat foods from different cuisine styles. You can definitely see how each culture brings such unique tastes from their part of the world.

Discovering food that is different from your own is such a treat and I’m just happy to have friends from other places who love to eat just as much as me!!

Being back home reminded me of how lucky I was to have grown up having a lot of Filipino food available to me. Whether it’s home cooked or from one of the many Filipino restaurants, you were never far from treats like this BBQ on a stick.

Everyone usually has their own marinade recipes, but I have to say that my father in law has the best one hands down. Over the decades he has perfected the sauce and has nailed the trimming, skewering and grilling down to a science.

Very happy I get to have these on a regular basis whenever we come for a visit!

This is an ube latte from since I heard a lot of good things about it.

I have to say, I was impressed. But you knew I was gonna say that already hahaha!

I’m just so glad that now there is a way to get my caffeine fix and my ube fix at the same time!

If you’re ever in you should definitely stop by and grab one!

Controversial question: Is Big Mikes BBQ the best BBQ in North Carolina?!

I personally think that it should at least be a strong contender!

I’ve been here several times and in the 4 years I’ve lived here, this is my favorite BBQ spot hands down!

I won’t name other bbq places I’ve tried BUT if you have a recommendation that can compete with the best of the best, give me your best BBQ recommendation in the triangle!

I guess you could say I’m a little obsessed with Ube flavors right now lol!

This is an Ube flavored macaron created by the and collaboration.

And by the taste (and texture) of it, I would say it’s a huge success!

What are your favorite macaron flavors? Any other recommendations I should try around the Triangle?

Interesting dessert time!

At first I thought this was leche flan (a Filipino dessert) but upon taking a bite of it, I realized it was a pumpkin pie without the crust!

Now I’m conflicted! I love crust on pies but I’m not gonna lie, this was pretty darn good!

Are you a crust person or no?! Is this something you would eat?! I need to know!!

I can’t stop saying good things about even if I tried!

The freshness and quality of the locally sourced ingredients are apparent in their food and it really elevates the dishes to another level!

Every single thing in this reel was good and I don’t feel like I’m over hyping them.

If you’re in Carrboro, you won’t want to miss an opportunity to visit this gem!

If you haven’t been to yet then you are missing out! This place has amazing food and I love that it’s right on the American To***co Campus in Durham!

Some highlights include the guava wings, any of the empanadas and the Boricua Soul Bowl (I liked it with chicharones)

I love that the mixed Puerto Rican flavors with the comfort of traditional soul food. Sooo good!

I definitely didn’t order everything I wanted to so I will need to come back at least 2 more times!

Not gonna lie, if you haven’t gone to yet, then you are missing out on one of the best dining experiences you can find in the Triangle.

From the video alone you can see how good the food is and trust me, my taste buds were in Heaven!

What the camera doesn’t catch, however, is the hospitality, kindness, and customer care from the owner and his staff.

Nothing gets me raving about a restaurant more than when an owner is super passionate about his food, and is super grateful to his patrons.

Kudos to Yung Nay and his team for the incredible work they’ve done here, and I’m excited to see what more they can do in the future!

PS- If you go there, tell them JoshsEatery sent you.

I’m hoping Yung will hook me up with more shots from their endless whiskey selection next time I visit 🤣🤣

Do you guys cook during the week or eat out?

Unfortunately I don’t have the wallet to support me eating out with my family of 5 everyday haha.

So for us, we do Hello Fresh twice a week. It’s cool because it makes me feel like a chef without actually being one haha.

Another benefit is that the meals look pretty impressive even though it’s made by a novice cook like me. AND it tastes good!

This meal was some Barramundi with brown butter and mashed potatoes and broccoli.

Really light and tasted really good!

I’m very fortunate to have friends who are super talented… especially when it comes to making delicious sweets!

was kind enough to share some of her Nutella and Ube coffee buns, and my goodness, my taste buds were sent into overdrive!

Have you ever had a Sushi Burrito?!

Probably one of the best food combinations known to mankind!

You guys definitely have to check out Sushioki in Durham (closed on Sundays).

Not only is the food fantastic, but the business itself was founded for the purpose of being able to provide jobs with livable wages to refugees and immigrants in the Triangle area.

Can’t say enough good things about this little spot in Durham.

It will definitely take you a few trips to fully explore the menu…unless you just have a big ol’ belly like me and order everything! 🤣🤣🤣
