Thank you for your caring heart, adventurous soul, your cups of coffee and thousands of plates of interesting foods. Thank you for always carrying my bag when my cheeks are turning red, and always giving me the window seat. Thank you for pulling me up and motivating me when the mountains get too high and always telling me my wild hair looks beautiful. Thank you for believing in me, always having my back and making me feel special or loved every day. Thank you for memories in so many corners of the world and may we have many more years of even greater adventures ahead of us. I love you so much!

The floating islands of Uros on the highest navigable lake in the world at 3900m, Lake Titicaca.

To protect themselves from invading groups, the Uros built mobile islands from the endemic totora plant. If a threat emerged, they could simply move their islands elsewhere in the lake.

To make an island, they create a sturdy but light base tying together layers of totora roots. Totora roots are naturally buoyant at the time of harvest. Above the totora root base, many layers of totora reeds are bundled and stacked. The islanders can maintain each island for up to 30 years, adding new layers of reeds once a week during the rainy season and once a month during the dry season.

There are 125 islands with roughly 2500 inhabitants, each island has its own president.

The kids can attend kindergarten and primary school on the islands, but need to go to the town Puno for high school.

I found the history and geography of these islands and their inhabitants very interesting, although the experience is pretty touristy.

One of the most beautiful and dramatic coastlines we’ve been to - Nusa Penida.

Fun fact, Brian and I visited Nusa Penida back in 2017, and I booked us a night at an airbnb, which was in the cottage you can see Brian standing at in the last photo. We never made it to the Airbnb back then, which I really regret, and now it’s all broken down and the area is extremely touristic, would’ve been such a cool experience if we stayed there then.

Ballestas Islands & the dramatic coastline of Paracas, Peru.

The protected islands are famous for their abundance of wildlife, thriving with penguins, pelicans, fur seals and sea lions.

The Paracas Candelabra, also called the Candelabra of the Andes, is a well-known prehistoric geoglyph found on the northern face of the Paracas Peninsula. The design is about 30cm deep, 180 meters tall and 60 meters wide.
Although the exact age of the Candelabra geoglyph is unknown, archaeologists have found pottery around the site dating to around 200 BCE. This pottery likely belonged to the Paracas people. It is not known whether they constructed the geoglyph. The purpose of the Candelabra's creation is also unknown.
