Good morning, Gambia!
Lamin Kebbeh was born in Jokadu, where he grew up and did much of his schooling. In an effort to find better educational opportunities, he moved to the urban areas staying with relatives.
After finishing school, as his parents’ only child, Lamin began doing menial jobs to make ends meet and help his family back in Jokadu.
At one point, he used to sell “fukajay” (used clothes) in Banjul.
He later applied to work as a trainee mechanical apprentice at the Gambia Ports Authority after working in the cleaning department for sometime.
His life began to improve. He rose through the ranks and was sent to Ghana for further studies.
On Saturday, July 29, Lamin Kebbeh graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Regional Maritime University in Ghana - one of the best of its kind in the world.
Kebbeh is the first engineering university graduate from his home village of Jokadou Karantaba.
