GHANA 🇬🇭
Dr Nsiah Asare of the Health Service was on JoyNews just over an hour ago.
Highlights of what he said:
● We should expect 10% of the Ghanaian population to test positive for the virus by the time we peak. He didn't give us a time frame for this.
His encouraging news is that of this number, 80% will NOT exhibit any symptoms. That is to say, they will be asymptomatic.
● Dr Asare said 5% of the population are expected to be critically ill. And 10% of that 5% are expected not to make it, ie, will die.
● Ghana has NOT tested 68,591 suspected cases of Covid-19 cases, he says.
● Also said 68,591 represents the number of tests conducted, and not the number of persons tested.
● The 68,591 includes duplicate tests of suspected case, although he says they are very few.
He explained that this is as a result of the fact that every positive test will an require additional confirmation test.
He also reiterated the fact that after treating a COVID-19 patient, two more negative tests are needed to declare a patient fully recovered.
● Evans Mensah asked him if he could tell us how many tests have been done so far. Dr Asare said the Ghana Health Service cannot do that, but only Noguchi can.
