When we met in graduate school, I showed up to class with my 6 mo old and Kim was pregnant with her first. I am SO sure we both looked shell shocked 😂 but a long and beautiful friendship was born and our adoration for each other, our boys, food, sweets, cocktails, art and leisurely lunches has kept us tethered through ups and downs, highs and lows, marriages and divorces, ha! If you’re SUPER lucky during the course of a lifetime you get to meet your people, you know? I’m super lucky. 💕✌🏽

ALSO, Kim’s about to embark on her doctorate program because she’s got so much to give and so many more places to go and I’m so proud of and encouraged by this midlife babe. Oh! And we have the SAME birthday because ♉️ 👸🏽 👸🏽’s find each other like that 😏

Your MIDLIFE journey is unique but you’re not alone.

I say this often, we all do I think, that OUR generation, the genx-ers, seem to be the first, certainly loudest, sharing about this season of life so candidly. The door to all of the good and bad is blown wide open now.

Do you feel supported in your perimenopause, menopause journey? Maybe it’s the access to sound, evidence based research that has buoyed you OR maybe it’s a community you’ve stepped into that’s made all the difference? I’d love to hear who has made positive impact on this season of life for you. We are not alone, let’s keep sharing the goods with each other, yeah? 🙌🏽💕

One of the many things I love about Dr. Malone is her commitment to the belief that all women should be able to make decisions regarding their health and quality of life based on facts – not fear.

We’re going to deep dive on all treatment options available to perimenopausal and menopausal women, from HRT to non-hormonal options, patches to pills. Dr. Malone wants women to be educated so that they are well equipped to make the best decisions for themselves. What’s right for one of us is not always so for another, you know?

DM me any and all questions. This is going to be a rich and informative hour. I absolutely cannot wait!

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below 👇🏽 I was thinking about how careful I hope to be when speaking about what nutrition “is” or “is not” because I don’t want to be another voice in a very large room contributing to an obsession with healthy eating. Social media makes this contribution easy but also, women in midlife are just as vulnerable to eating disorders as younger women. Many of us talk about being “over” this mental gymnastics but I suspect the truth may be someplace else. We also need to talk more about Black and Brown women who suffer with disordered eating and have largely been ignored on this.

If you find you are compulsively checking labels, ingredients, feeling anxiety or distress around “healthy foods, the right foods, bad foods…” or are fixated over the kind of “damage” a food might cause to your health, it may be time to raise an internal red flag. Also, jumping from one way of eating to another to another because the “plan” sounds good can lead to hormonal havoc, self esteem struggles, digestive issues and an empty bank account.

Food is a lot of things, besides delicious. It’s nourishment, indeed, but it’s also relational, emotional. It’s a heavy load for flavors and macros and calories to bear! We need to work to unravel from the noise around food, what it is, what it means and what it does not. We shouldn’t fear it, right!? It’s too good and too good for us!

Call me Captain Obvious because here I am wearing my reading glasses wanting to talk about eye health in and

Dry eyes have been a thing for me lately, thanks to reduced tear production. Decreased androgens (like testosterone) as well as decreased estrogen have contributed to that gritty feeling. I also sometimes experience eye burning, irritation, blurry vision and stinging. Arent’cha jealous!?

Speak to an Optometrist about your eye health but don’t ignore it!

In the meantime, consider:

Less screen time
Lubricating with artificial tears
A high quality Omega 3 supp
Prescription drops/nasal sprays (doc speak!)
Clean your eyes with gentle products, consistently
In office treatments (Pulse light & Punctal plugs, for ex.) consult with your 👁 doc!

Have you noticed changes to your eyes beyond the need for reading glasses? I’m doing some research and I’d love to hear about your experience. 👀
