How to Love Your Artist or Creative Type
8 August 2020
I found thereâs not a whole lot available online about this topic. If youâve studied any history on famous artists of various types, musicians, actors, painters, etc you will find that while they have an intense passion and talent to create, they often lead a very troubled personal life.
So, what is so different within the heart of an artist?
If you choose to be involved with one and go along for their wild ride, what do they need in order to feel loved?
Your creative type cannot live on words alone, nor compliments that come across as shallow. (Sure, everyone likes to hear that they are attractive, but your artist needs more. A deeper more meaningful connection that dives beneath the surface of physical attraction).
âArt enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.â -Thomas Merton
So when they send you a link to a song, listen to it, they are trying to tell you something or simply share the things they love because they are bonding with you. Use this to expand your experiences even if everything they like isnât within your normal listening tastes.
Quotes from favorite authors and links to things that interest them may also abound. If you are busy at the time just let them know. If you want to build something with your artist, read it later when you have time so you can discuss it with them.
This isnât all one-sided. Your artist cares about your passions and can awaken those latent creative streaks that can bring you to life.
For sure being involved with a creative type isnât superficial and requires investment and an open mind, but the rewards are end less. Your artist can introduce you to their world and take you on journeys you never knew existed.
This all being said, since your artist likely tends to communicate in unconventional ways, rejecting what they try to say is the same as rejecting a part of them. If you donât want something deep and meaningful and would prefer easy and superficial make sure you decide this and say so.
Your creative type needs to be able to express themselves in various ways and want to just be loved for who they are. Their self-expression is a reflection and dimension of themselves and has nothing to do with you. Allow them to be themselves freely and they will love you endlessly.... by their own free will.
âFree will, though it makes evil possible, also makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having.â -C.S. Lewis
Living in a society that has taught us to value money, status and logic over creation, art and intuition has cut off our full capacity as humans. It is the artist that our world needs direly to bring humanity back to life.
While developing a relationship with an artist can be different than with most people whose comfort zone seems to be superficial, I feel that it brings us back to why we interact with others and build relationships in the first place. Our relationships with others can help us to expand and grow in various ways. Itâs the way human interaction was mean to be.... inspiring.
This is one creatives take on the subject.
