New Pennies is once again a finalist for the National Scholastic Press Association's Pacemaker Award! Congratulations to editors Madi Alger and Rachel Kelly, and to design chief Kelan Graddy.
The awards will be announced at the annual NSPA conference, April 16-19. New Pennies has been a finalist every year since 2010, and was a winner in 2010 and 2013.

And congratulations to another finalist, Geneva High School, and their fine magazine The Skaldic. Kudos to their staff, and their advisor, Heather Peters!

The 2014 issue of New Pennies, "Anomaly" is one of only two high-school literary magazines in Illinois to win the Highest Award given by the National Council of Teachers' of English Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines. Congratulations to editors Madi Alger and Rachel Kelly, and to design chief Kelan Graddy.

Congratulations also the other award winner, Geneva High School, and their fine magazine The Skaldic. Kudos to their staff, and their advisor Heather Peters.

New Pennies wins a Pacemaker Award!!
At the National Scholastic Press Association's national convention this weekend, the 2013 issue of New Pennies was named one of five Pacemaker Award winners. The competition included the best high school magazines in the U.S. and from American schools overseas. Congratulations to Sarah Jilek, Theresa Nguyen, Deborah Neff, Sarah Trostle,Taylor Volk, Dakotah Brady, Stephanie Milroy, Maddie McDougall, Jehona Ajeti, and Emily Hankins. My thanks to them for making DHS proud!

What a fantastic evening! Thanks to all the DHS poets, artists, photographers, and musicians who blessed us with their talents tonight. The 2012 issue of New Pennies, "Vertigo," is a finalist for the National Scholastic Press Association's Pacemaker Award. That's three years in a row! Only twelve finalists are named nationwide, so congratulations to the 2012 staff and especially to editors Sara Wuchte and Jenn Jesmer!

(Application deadline for the NSPA Pacemaker award is in January, with results available in April, so there's still quite a wait ahead of us for that.)
