Lira Journalists have continuously echo their voice over what they say continuous harassment on them.

According to Journalists, intimidation and attack on Journalists is mostly coming up during this second lockdown and the missing of a four year old girl in April at Timber Yard in Lira City East.

Whenever Journalists tries to ask for the update of the missing child, Police including the PRO Jimmy Patrick Okema turned violent on them while other Journalists have reportedly been beaten up by Police.

Because of the Continuous harassment on Journalist ls in Lira, Mid North Media Center will continue exposing it out

The African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME) today announced a shortlist of 54 journalists for the Uganda National Journalism Awards 2020 - Only two (2) Made it to the shortlist from Northern Uganda.

The panel was chaired by Dr Charlotte Ntulume, a lecturer in the Department of Journalism and Communication at Makerere University and also a former journalist.

“The judges noted an improvement in investigative journalism and enterprise among the broadcast entries, which indicates progress in the industry,” she said. “Several entries showed that journalists had a good appreciation of the issues they were reporting on, even though some may have fallen short on delivery.”

Breaking: Radio Wa 89.8 fm Staff protest - Lock premise gate

Staff of a Catholic radio station in Lira, Uganda today woke up from the wrong side of their beds and locked the gate to the radio.

The incident interrupted an early morning Mass which is always presided over by a priest from Lira cathedral Parish.

The staff wrote placards and pinned it on the gate with inscriptions like "WE WANT KASUKU OUT OF RADIO WA!! STAFF!!!!

By this afternoon, the board members led by Christopher Dao Aweki were locked up in the meeting to resolve the standoff.

Radio Wa has seen multiple staff resignations across all departments under the current director Magdaline Kasuku with a nose-dive decline in rating among top radios in Northern Uganda

Uganda National Journalism Awards 2020 eligibility rules and submission guidelines

ELIGIBILITY

There is no entry fee.
The competition is open to all journalists, freelance or full-time, working in Uganda.
Work submitted must be published or broadcast in a Ugandan media outlet or a regional news outlet with wide distribution in Uganda.
All work submitted must have been broadcast or published between 1 January and 31 December, 2019.
Any news article, broadcast programme or series, covering a single topic or subject in the categories listed for competition, is eligible.
If a story series is submitted, the first part, and not more than two other parts of the series, should be entered into competition.
Submission of local language articles and broadcasts is encouraged. They must be accompanied with English translations or transcripts (for broadcast).
If a story with a shared byline is submitted, a detailed explanation of each team member’s contribution must be given. Cash prizes for shared bylines are shared equally among all journalists, unless there is a clear lead writer and this testimony is backed by a signed letter from an entrant’s editorial manager.

There are 20 categories for competition.

Applications are already open for British Council’s Future News Worldwide Conference 2020 in London, UK. The program centers around a two-day conference in London, with English as the working language.
Future News Worldwide 2020 will take place on July 14-15, 2020 at Sky’s global headquarters in London, UK. The conference is free for successful applicants and travel and accommodation costs will be covered. It offers aspiring young journalists opportunities to develop practical and editorial skills and hear directly from some of the world’s most high-profile industry leaders, with a mixture of talks, interactive panel sessions, workshops, and hands-on experiences.
ELIGIBILITIES
1. Be aged 18-25 on July 1, 2020.
2. Be a registered student, enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate course (of any subject) at a university or higher education institution or have graduated from a degree course after 1 July 2018.
3. Be a native speaker of English OR be able to speak English at IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent (a formal qualification is not required, just the ability to speak at this level).
4. Not have participated in Future News Worldwide or Future News before.

Once in a life time, Eng Dr Badru Kigundu the former EC Chairperson on glass, Paramount Chief of Lango Eng Dr MM Odongo Okune, Bismark Olang of Unity FM, Joseph Ekol Ekol of Rupiny and Ceasar Ivan Okello of Qfm recently at Hotel Africana Kampala during the Association of Ugandan Engineers conference.

Lira Catholic Journlists to lead the Sunday’s Mass
Unlike in the past where many people though that Journalists only knows shouting on air and reading news. It is not the case this time around, it is confirmed Lira Catholic Journalists are to lead this Sunday’s Holly mass at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral Lira.
All christens from all walks of life are welcome to witness the colorful mass on Sunday at Lira Cathedral.

Update Pupils petitioned head teacher demanding for Conditional testing of their status
Authorities of Oketkwer Primary School in Aromo Sub County and Lira district education department have been left speechless after five girls of the same School petition the office of the Head teacher for conditional testing.
Their petition followed the arrest of two teachers of the same school on allegation of defiling two P.7 Candidates who were sitting PLE Exams early this week.
It is alleged that the two teachers Tony Ojok and Samuel Onach have been having s*x with many School girls mainly those in upper classes.
Now following the arrest, five girls have written letters addressed to the head teacher demanding to be tested for fear of their health related matter.
The Sub County Chief of Aromo Sub-County Mr Tony Ngwen Omol said he has directed the head teacher to immediately ensure that the five girls are examines by the recognized Lira regional Hospital.
The District inspector of School for Lira Mr Patrick Olwit has however summoned the head teacher of the School to appear to his office for questioning

The Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Mr Adolf Mwesige has said that the withdrawal of the army from Makerere University will be gradual.
On Wednesday, officials from the Ministry led by Mr Mwesige, the Minister of Internal Affairs Mario Obiga Kaniaa and Lt Gen. Wilson Mbadi the Deputy Army Commander, were appearing before the Parliamentary committee on education to answer queries of brutality against students by the army.
The army was accused of brutalising students who were demonstrating against the 15 percent fees increment.
The army brutality attracted local and international criticism which forced President Museveni to order the withdrawal of the soldiers from the university.

Two Teachers in Lira held over defilement #
Two Primary School teachers attach to Oketkwer Primary School in Aromo Sub-County in Lira district are being held by Police over the defilement of underage pupils of the Same School.
The two teachers include Tony Ojok and Samuel Onac . it is allege that on Monday night they picked two girls age 15 and 16 who were all sitting for PLE and went and defiled them trans-night before taking them back to School.
The OC CID of Lira district D/ASP Roberto Bhayo confirmed the arrest of the duo saying they are being held at Aromo Police Post a waiting to be transferred to Lira CPS.
On Tuesday evening the Head teacher of the School Isaac Omara tried to convince a secret meeting to see how best they can handle the matter quietly but the Media learnt and exposed them forcing them to go and report the case to Police.
The two teachers on Wednesday handed themselves to Police.
Now the Question remained that who should the Parents trust them with their Children when at School
