It started as an idea, an ideal, to bring out a compilation highlighting the vitality of the global afrobeat scene, around the 15th of October, Fela Kuti's birthdate and the period of Felabration, the celebration of the music, life and struggle of The Black President.
NYP Records was all in, and here we are at the fourth compilation of contemporary afrobeat.
This year the compilation takes us from West Africa to Western Europe, from the USA to Central Africa, with a pitstop in Morocco. 15 tracks that showcase the spirit and creativity of global afrobeat, all adding bits and pieces of their own culture and tradition to the the legacy of Fela Kuti.
That legacy is alive and well, from Mexico City to Buenos Aires to the streets of Philadelphia. From Paris to Helsinki to London. And even better, even the new generation of West-African musician has embraced the original afrobeat sound, from Senegal over Ghana and Benin to Nigeria and the Congo.
Icing of the cake is the bonus track for : the 50th anniversary of hiphop culture celebrated in 2023. Afrobeat and hiphop music, two styles and cultures that just mesh seamlessly, as you will hear on the collaboration between Seun Kuti and Black Thought.

[BEST OF 10/2022] Malo kasnim s tradicionalnim podsjetnikom na ono najbolje što sam slušao u prošlom mjesecu i već sam mislio sve spojiti s ovim, ali onda sam shvatio da je ovog mjeseca već objavljeno nekoliko odličnih albuma, a u najavi ih je još dosta (samo sutra idu tri jako dobra albuma vani) pa sam ipak odlučio napraviti listopadnu Izvorišta listu.

Uglavnom se na njoj nalaze albumi objavljeni u prošlom mjesecu, ima ponešto i starijih, ali koje sam slušao u ovom razdoblju. I dalje se držim preporuke da kupite ovu glazbu ili na nekom fizičkom izdanju ili na Bandcampu, a tek zatim da slušate na svim tim streaming servisima. I da, slušajte albume, ne pjesme. Smislene cjeline su smislene cjeline, nemojte ih uništavati.
