Try counting the number of crocodiles in the frame.. No doubt the shot is from Kauwa Ghatiya, Sathiyana, Zone 2 of Dudhwa. This route is probably among some of the best routes to travel in Dudhwa especially the Ghoom Road that is surprising as well as exciting.

The Flying Leopardess🐯
A typical early monsoon safari with a number of Elephant herds blocking us just got even more interesting with a pack of 4 Wild Dogs resting on a beautiful mound. As we were busy shooting them for a while little did we realise that right above our heads was this Leopardess until she leaped to the higher branch. She must have been treed up just a few minutes before we arrived. Soon the Dogs started losing interest and we knew she was going to take advantage of that and come flying down with the first opportunity. So we positioned for the vertical descent and waited. Soon enough once the Dogs moved away she decided it was time to get out of there and came crashing down.

There is no doubt that the jaguar is the most aquatic of the large felids but all big cats can and will swim when they want to or have to! This tiger shows off its comfort in a small waterhole in India 🇮🇳 I took photos of this young tiger swimming over the course of an afternoon, playing and interacting with its siblings in the water. 🐅
The “V” of the Tree
A series of Leopard images in the “V” before descent.
Often when people ask me the best and the different ways to make Leopard images on a tree, my answer leans towards studying the behaviour of the individual cat and the species and not about how well versed you are with your camera. Of course the right camera settings are an important basic. But more crucial is knowing how this cat will behave when ascending or descending a tree, what path will it choose and depending on that what background will you choose, and more often than not it will look in the final “V” before the jump. It is so fascinating to predict this and position the vehicle and rarely goes wrong when the Leopard decides to jump across trees and descends a completely different one.
When being on the road for most part of my life tracking these elusive and majestic felines in the woods, I always looked for something reliable to store all those magical moments. Have been privileged to watch some amazing behaviour while he has been most active securing his boundaries from the Khymara Male Leopard and hence has been walking and marking every part of his territory with vigour. The False Eyes👀💕
It was an amazing sight to see this Tigress swimming in the thick undergrowth while stalking a herd of Spotted Deer and popping her head up once in a while to see if the prey is within range for the final burst. All this while she did not even look back once, such was her concentration, only moving her Ears to listen.
Those false eyes give you a feeling of always being watched even when the back is turned against you.

The terai Arc landscape (TAL) is a 810 km stretch that lies between River Yamuna in the west to River Bhagmati (Nepal) in the east comprising of the Shivalik hills, the adjoining Bhabhar region and the terai flood plains. As many as 14 protected forest areas come under TAL of which some are PTR, Dudhwa, Katerniaghat, Kishanpur, Banke, Bardia, Sohelwa and Shuklaphanta. These forests are well connected with common boundaries and corridors. But with the increase in habitat defragmantation, agricultural lands, forest encroachment, Railway lines, roadways and many such abiotic factors terai is among the most endangered ecosystem of India. The richly diverse region is highly endangered and the species that inhabits these lands are heavily affected by them. As such terai is also place that has Man Animal Conflicts. The news of conflicts due to big cat species coming out of Katerniaghat, PTR, Kishanpur and Dudhwa into the nearby agricultural fields along the forest fringes for food and safe shelter is frequent. And to stop many such incidences requires strategic effort to create a balance as long as the villages are not relocated and the encroachments are not well taken care of. Sharing an image from an old incidence when a Leopard that came out of the forest was spotted and reported to the forest dept by locals. And while we visited the location to provide leopard some time and a safe path to trace his path back into the forests, the local population was calmed and made aware that these cats are not threats to humans but an imp. part of our ecosystem.
