The seven-day festival of Sukkot starts on the 15th of Tishrei.

In ancient times Sukkot was "The Holiday" and commemorates the 40 years the Jewish spent in the desert on their way to the promised land after escaping slavery in Egypt.

In modern times Sukkot is celebrated by building temporary dwellings from woods, canvas, or aluminum🪵 It is considered a Mitzvah to pray inside and it's common for families to eat, play and pray for the 7 days of the Holiday.

Meet Ira Yoshpa, a Hebrew teacher with over 15 years of experience!

Every time a student of hers would ask her for a Hebrew book recommendation, she was speechless. She didn’t know of any adult books made in easy Hebrew for students to understand. It was great to see old friends and new friends coming together and enjoying our book.

Our vision in translating this book was to make reading more accessible and fun for anyone interested in learning Hebrew. And seeing everyone at the event was a proud moment that showed us that it is truly possible and needed.

Translating a book requires a lot of thought and dedication.

This translation of Around the World in 80 Days is an outcome of a lifetime of experience and wisdom of a Hebrew teacher who was resolved to have a novel that her students could read, enjoy, and feel a sense of accomplishment as their reading skills mature.

Ira Yoshpa immigrated from Russia to Israel as a child with her family.

While traveling around the world she discovered a passion for languages and went on to study spoken Arabic and German while speaking Hebrew in her daily life and Russian at home.

For the past 14 years, she has been teaching Hebrew in private and public language schools.

Early in her teaching career, she noticed how much students struggle with reading more complex Hebrew structures despite having mastered spoken Hebrew.

It became apparent that there is a lack of appropriate and fun reading material in Hebrew.

Translating a classic novel into simplified Hebrew was her dream many years before it became a reality.

This adaptation of Around the World in 80 Days is Ira's gift for Hebrew learners around the world.
