Hi! This is Pam Lundell, host of "A Widow's Heart". Today is the anniversary of my late husband, John Lundell's home-going. I like to call it a home-going because I know he is in Heaven. If you’re grieving your husband or wife or another family member that you’ve lost recently, I am sending you a big hug and a promise that even though it may not seem so now, God has that plan for you which He will reveal slowly and in the meantime let HIM hold you along the way while letting your loved ones and church family take care of you as you heal and move forward.

I know the journey and the feeling of life as you knew it being totally turned upside down and even the feeling of not wanting to go on and where your next breath will come from… because today happens to be the anniversary of my late husband John’s death. The calendar says MANY years but it’s hard to believe still. The years have gone by one by one, each a new challenge and learning curve and I have learned some key things and want to share them with you:

The Holy Spirit will lift you up and literally carry you…LET HIM!

God WILL surprise you. He has a GREATER plan for you through the pain of grief… and eventually as the years go by you can help others on the same path.

I invite you to challenge yourself when you don’t feel like it. A turning point for me was when my sister forced me to go kayaking on Lake Superior on the first anniversary of John’s home-going. I wanted to stay home and have a pity party but when I finally got on that water on an impossibly beautiful summer day. I looked down and saw fish swimming through the clear water, looked up and saw the gorgeous blue sky and kayaked through sea caves that blew my mind and I could hear God telling me “Look what I have created and you almost missed it. I have so much more to show you! Stay close by Me and I will.”

He has!

Be kind to yourself as you cherish the memory of your loved one and allow Him to carry you forward as you live, heal, grow and THRIVE.

Psalm 91:4 is His promise to you: “He will cover you with His feathers and under His wings you will find refuge. His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”

Take a moment right now to just breathe and surrender your worries and struggles to Him. He sees you in your hour of need, and He hears you whenever you cast your cares at His feet.

Maybe you’re walking through what seems like the valley of the shadow of death right now. It may even feel like you’ve been walking through your valley for months or years on end. Or perhaps, you walked through your valley a long time ago, but the memories still haunt you.

Whatever your valley looks like for you, know this- the Lord is with you, and you don’t need to be afraid of the future or any earthly evil. He will bring to through to the other side, and brighter days are ahead.

Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever!

Though our circumstances may change, our Savior remains the same. We can trust in the promises of Scripture, knowing they were as true for God’s people thousands of years ago as they are for us today.

The Lord reassures us time and again in Scripture that we do not need to worry. He is with us in all things and through all things. But as fallen humans, we still find ourselves afraid of the unknown.

The loss of a spouse is traumatic and may leave you fearful of what happens next. You might be overwhelmed by worry entirely, wondering what other tragedy may strike you, or questioning your ability to handle the kids, finances, and grief all on your own.

On January 9, 2018, a natural disaster took nearly everything from Kim Cantin, a guest on the latest episode of A Widow’s Heart.

On a day that seemed like any other, Kim’s house was suddenly hit with flash flooding so severe it was a miracle she and her daughter made it out alive. Her husband and son, however, did not survive this sudden tragedy. Kim has since written a book about her grief journey called “Where the Yellow Flowers Bloom.”

In the Bible, Job is shown as a righteous man who had to endure losing his family, wealth, and health. However, he accepted every difficult thing, even without any understanding of why it was happening. The lesson we can take from Job is to praise God even when we don’t know why we are experiencing hardships.

It might be hard, but we know for certain that God is with us every step of the way.
