Pastor, herbalist sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for dealing in human parts in Kwara
A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State has sentenced one Pastor Gabriel Josaya a.k.a Eli-Wakuku to 4 years imprisonment for dealing in human parts.
The founder of St. Moses Orimolade Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ilorin, was convicted alongside an herbalist, Gabriel Moyosore, of conspiracy, trespass and unlawful possession of human parts.

The Investigating Police Officer, Peter Ibiyemi told the court in his evidence that Josaya who began the business in 2009, confessed that he had exhumed over 200 human skulls from the Muslim Cemetery, Osere area of Ilorin.
He carried out his operation mainly at night and singlehandedly, and reportedly paid N10,000 to the cemetery security guard for each operation. It was also learnt that Josaya confessed to have sold each skull for N6,000 to Moyosore.

Singer, Omah Lay reacts after being arraigned for flouting COVID-19 guidelines in Uganda

In a series of tweets after his arraignment, Omah Lay questioned why he wasn't given a right to a fair hearing in court. He also claimed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria has been trying to secure their release but the Ugandan officials have refused to speak with them.

He also said he was handcuffed.

Omah Lay was arrested on Sunday December 13, with singer, Tems, their managers and  four other Ugandans for holding an illegal concert at Ddungu resort in Munyonyo where they gathered big crowds, contrary to President Museveni’s directives on the prevention of the spread of Covid-19.

14/12/2020

Eswatini Prime Minister, Ambrose Dlamini, has died one month after testing positive for Covid-19, making him the first world leader to die from the virus.

Mr Dlamini, 52, had been hospitalised in neighbouring South Africa, the monarchy's government confirmed late on Sunday, Dec 13.

"Their Majesties have commanded that I inform the Nation of the sad and untimely passing away of His Excellency the Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini," Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku said in a statement.

"His Excellency passed on this afternoon (Dec 13) while under medical care in a hospital in South Africa."

Dlamini was moved to South Africa on Dec.1, to "guide and  fast track his recovery," from coronavirus. At that time, Masuku said Dlamini was stable and responding well to treatment.

The southern African nation of around 1.2 million people has so far recorded 6,768 positive cases of Covid-19, with 127 confirmed deaths, according to the health ministry.

Earlier this year, the Burundian president, Pierre Nkurunziza, was reported to potentially be the first world leader to die of the virus. He passed away from a heart attack, the government later announced.

However, opposition sources and journalists at the time claimed the president had been undergoing treatment for coronavirus at hospital after he fell ill.

But the claims have not been confirmed by the government, who stated the leader died following a cardiac arrest on June 8.

09/12/2020

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has said that the National Assembly lacks the constitutional power to summon President Buhari.

Last week, the House of Representatives passed a resolution summoning the president over the deteriorating state of security across the country.

A tweet posted by Presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, on Monday evening December 7, stated that the President will be meeting with the lawmakers on Thursday, December 10.

However, in a statement released today December 9, Malami said it was outside the constitutional powers of the National Assembly to summon the president over his “operational use of the armed forces”. According to him, the President has recorded enormous success in his fight against insecurity since he assumed office in 2015.

“President Buhari of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has recorded tremendous success in containing the hitherto incessant bombing, colossal killings, wanton destruction of lives and property that bedeviled the country before attaining the helm of affairs of the country in 2015.

The confidentiality of strategies employed by the President as the commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is not open for public exposore in view of security implications in probable undermining of the war against terror.

The fact that President Muhammadu Buhari was instrumental to the reclaiming of over 14 Local Governments previously controlled by the Boko Haram in North East is an open secret, the strategies for such achievement are not open for public expose.

While condoling the bereaved and sympathising with the victims of the associated insecurity in the country, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN maintained that national security is not about publicity and the nation’s security architecture cannot be exposed for the sake of getting publicity.

The National Assembly has no Constitutional Power to envisage or contemplate a situation where the President would be summoned by the National Assembly on operational use of the Armed Forces."

09/12/2020

President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that he is disgusted with the coverage of EndSARS protests by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and America’s Cable News Network (CNN).

The President said this at a meeting with state governors at the presidential villa in Abuja on Tuesday December 8.

Buhari in a statement released by his spokesman Garba Shehu, accused CNN and BBC of failing to report about the killing of police officers and attacks on police stations and prisons.

He said;

“I was disgusted by the coverage, which did not give attention to the policemen that were killed, the stations that were burnt, and prisons that were opened. (They said we are all at fault. We don’t have the sympathy of anyone. We are on our own)."

The President also warned that his government would no longer allow violent demonstrations in Nigeria as “democracy does not mean confusion or lack of accountability.”

FG reduces pump price of petrol by N5

The Federal Government has reduced the pump price of premium motor spirit otherwise know as petrol from N168 per litre to N162.44 per litre effective from December 14, 2020.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige told reporters at the end of a meeting with labour leaders which began at 9pm on Monday and ended at 1:30am on Tuesday.

The product presently sells at N168, following the decision of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company, a subsidiary of the Federal Government – owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to increase the ex-depot price of petrol from N147.67 per litre to N155.17 per litre in November.

The minister said a technical committee has been set up by the larger house to ensure price stability in the industry.

08/12/2020

The United States on Monday placed Nigeria for the first time on a religious freedom blacklist, paving the way for potential sanctions if it does not improve its record.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo designated the US ally as a “Country of Particular Concern” for religious freedom, alongside nations that include China, Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Pompeo did not elaborate on the reasons for including Nigeria, which has a delicate balance between Muslims and Christians.
But US law requires such designations for nations that either engage in or tolerate “systematic, ongoing, egregious violations of religious freedom.”
Pompeo notably did not include India, which has a growing relationship with Washington, and was infuriated by a recommendation from the US Commission on International Religious Freedom to include the secular but Hindu-majority nation over what it called a sharp downward turn under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Other nations on the blacklist are Eritrea, Myanmar, North Korea, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
– Improve or face sanctions –
Pompeo removed from a second-tier watchlist both Uzbekistan and Sudan, whose relations with the United States have rapidly warmed after the ousting of dictator Omar al-Bashir and its recent agreement to recognize Israel.
On Nigeria, an annual State Department report published earlier this year took note of concerns both at the federal and state levels.
It pointed to the mass detention of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, a Shiite Muslim group that has been at loggerheads with the government for decades and was banned by a court.
The group has taken inspiration from Iran, ordinarily a major target of President Donald Trump’s administration.
However, Nigeria has been widely criticized for its treatment of the movement, including in a 2015 clash in which hundreds were said to have died.

08/12/2020

Breakdancing, a type of hip hop dance that involves side steps, stunts, acrobatics and choreography to music, has been added as an Olympic sport for the 2024 games to be held in Paris.

The decision was confirmed today, December 7 by the International Olympic Committee, as it seeks to attract a younger audience to the competition.

Other newly added sports by the IOC include skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing.

Unlike break dancing, the above three Sports will debut at the coronavirus delayed Olympics in Tokyo in 2021.

The idea was proposed two years ago after trials at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina, proved a success. Breakdancing will be called breaking when competitors take to the floor.

In 2024, the dance-offs will take place at a downtown venue in the French capital, alongside sport climbing and 3v3 basketball.

According to a 2019 Olympic programme commission report, an estimated one million people take part in breakdancing.

Considering that the 2019 Red Bull BC One World Final had more that 50 million views across a number of online platforms, the Olympics committee see the addition of breakdancing as a positive one for the games

After the IOC announcement, Ronnie Abaldonado, a competitive breakdancer since 2004 who won the 2007 Red Bull BC One World Final said: "The biggest part is your stage presence and character and your rhythm, whether or not you're really feeling it.

"People can hit the moves but if you're not feeling what they're doing then you just kind of look robotic and that's what kind of separates it being a sport to it being an art form."

Breaking pioneer Richard "Crazy Legs" Colon said: "This is true folk art from the music to the dance, to the DJ to the rapper. We've already legitimized ourselves so we're not looking to the Olympics for legitimacy."

07/12/2020

Most Quranic education school pupils, popularly called "Almajiri", who live on the streets in the northern part of the country, are not Nigerians, Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje said on Monday, Dec 7.

While declaring open a 3-day retreat organised by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in Kano, governor Ganduje said: "A lot of them are foreigners from Niger Republic, Chad and Cameroun."

"From the survey we have conducted, most of the Almajiri roaming our streets are from Niger, Chad and the northern part of Cameroun."

The theme of the retreat is, "Enhancing Basic Education in Nigeria towards a Robust Institutional Strengthening and Effective Stakeholder Engagement”.

According to Ganduje, the retreat is also important because it is coming at a time education has become the first victim of uncontrolled population, especially when it is not matched with appropriate economic development.

Ganduje disclosed that free and compulsory primary and secondary school education, as well as the transformation of the Almajiri education system, were some of his major priorities in the education sector.

Nigerian Army has dismissed Boko Haram’s claim of killing 43 farmers in Borno as revenge for the arrest of one of its members.

Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche who gave an update on Thursday December 3, on the operations of the armed forces between November 26 and December 2 in Abuja, after the insurgents released a video in which they alleged that the farmers had given information of their movement in the area to the military, said the insurgents are trying to instill fear in the minds of the people because they have seen the governor is trying to make sure that people return to their homes.

Eneche said “The truth is that whenever they are losing ground as a result of the military activities, this is what they resort to.

“It is a fallacy because we killed one of them and that the farmers gave information about them, but the likelihood is wickedness.

“They want to use that to instill fear in the minds of the people because they have seen the governor trying to make sure that people return to their homes.

“Our message here to the general public is that they should not be discouraged and that we are moving forward and with your cooperation, we are going to end this menace."

The Defence Spokesperson added that troops have been carrying out ground and air offensives against the insurgents who are trying to instill fear with propaganda.

03/12/2020

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has disclosed that President Buhari has agreed to address the House of Representatives on the state of insecurity in the country as requested by the lawmakers.

Recall that the decision to summon President Buhari was taken at Tuesday’s plenary when the House considered a motion moved by members from Borno State on the recent massacre of 43 rice farmers in the state by Boko Haram insurgents.

Gbajabiamila who disclosed that they have reached a date, stated that the President is concerned about the state of insecurity in the country.

He said “He was ever so ready to listen as is typical of Mr President, the usual democrat that he is and what we basically sought was to convey the resolution of the House and to fix a date which we did not fix out of respect for Mr President and his very tight schedule. We have agreed on a date and he will meet with the House to address the situation.

“I think he is more concerned than me or you that’s all I can say. You know they say uneasy lies the head. We will leave everything till he comes to the House, so let me not pre-empt. The DS is here, the leader is hereto bear me witness. He (Buhari) is fully committed to security, live and property of Nigerians”.

A Russian Vogue model has been charged with stabbing her husband to death with a kitchen knife in a jealous rage.

26-year-old Lilia Sudakova faces up to 15 years in jail in Russia after being accused of killing Sergey Popov, 28 after he 'flirted' with a woman who he had brought home from a bar.

It was alleged that was 'jealous' and 'outraged' by her husband's decision, sparking a row which resulted in the death of Sergey who was stabbed in the heart.

But her mother Irena Sudakova, 48, claims the model was the longtime victim of domestic abuse, and that she had acted in self-defence when stabbing Popov.

After the stabbing, Sudakova whose modelling name is Lila Sudakova immediately called an ambulance, and Popov was rushed to hospital where he died.

Reports said she confessed to knifing her husband of four years and told investigators it was due to jealousy after he flirted with the woman.
