GMA interviewing Neng Juliano-Tamano of FICTAP, who is opposing ABS-CBN's renewal because she says ABS-CBN is cheating by asking for a renewal for multiple channels, because one channel, one franchise daw. Tanga.

A THREAD

1. One franchise, one frequency po. One analog frequency can carry three digital channels. I don't understand how someone can own a broadcast/cable franchise & not be aware of this simple thing.

2. Ok, short explanation of what the franchise process is. Airwaves are owned by the Filipino people. Telecom companies - radio, broadcast, cellphones, etc - who need to use Filipino airwaves need to apply for and basically rent the exclusive franchise to a specific frequency.

3. Que se hoda yung channels - frequency lang ang usapan. Because of technological advances, specifically the digitalization of broadcast signals, telecommunications companies have the option of using the frequencies more efficiently.

4. Here is the RA7966, the 1995 ABS-CBN franchise renewal. Not once is "channel" mentioned. Frequency, yes. Channel, no. chanrobles.com/republicacts/r…

5. Actually 6-8 SD channels (like ABS-CBN) or 3 HD channels (like PTV), digital channels, can fit into one analog frequency. Bobo lang talaga yang si FakeTAP tita. Tumanda nang di natututo sa advancement ng television technology.

6. Sec. 6. Term of Franchise. — This franchise shall be for a term of twenty-five (25) years from the date of effectivity of this Act. To answer this question..
- Everyone knows this law. However, madaming may pending renewal ang pinapa operate pa rin ng ntc kaya nga kailan lang sinabi ng ntc na pwede pa rin sila mag air. But there might be a broad reason why there is a sudden change of decision. 😌
