Emergency services are at the scene of a horror collision in the South West.

A St John WA spokeswoman said two women have been seriously injured after a car and a truck collided along Forrest Highway, near Pead Road in Binningup, about 30km north of Bunbury.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services are also at the scene as one woman is reportedly trapped in the wreckage.

The crash happened about 7.30am on Wednesday.

A homicide squad detective has taken his own life at a WA Police facility in Perth overnight.

It is understood the male officer fatally self-injured in the early hours of Monday morning.

In a statement, police said the death was being considered non-suspicious.

Commissioner Col Blanch extended his condolences to the officer’s family, his colleagues and everyone who knew him.

“Information regarding this officer’s death has been shared with his colleagues, and health and welfare support has been offered to all police officers and staff who may be impacted by this tragedy,” Mr Blanch said.

WA Police Union president Paul Gale said the whole force and membership were distraught by the loss.

“All of our members both here and across Australia will be affected by this,” Mr Gale said.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and compiling a report for the coroner.

A man is fighting for life in hospital after being found unconscious with “significant” injuries on a street, as police continue to investigate how it occurred.

The man was found with ‘significant injuries to his torso and neck area’.

ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES

Detectives from the Financial Crime Squad – Rural Crime Team, have charged a 21-year-old man in relation to an incident that occurred in Howatharra (Geraldton) on Tuesday, 20 August 2024.

At about 2am, the accused drove his Toyota Prado onto a private farmland grazing area (near Coronation Beach Road) home to 90 cows and 86 calves.

It will be alleged he deliberately ran down several three-month-old calves in his vehicle as they attempted to avoid being hit.

The exact number of deceased and injured cattle is not yet known, however; it is believed approximately eight calves were injured during the incident with at least one calf euthanised due to the nature of its injuries.

On 5 September 2024, the 21-year-old was arrested at an address in Waikiki and charged with one count each of ‘Cruelty to Animals’ and ‘Criminal Damage or Destruction of Property’. He is next due to appear before the Geraldton Magistrates Court on 18 September 2024.

Inquiries remain ongoing.

Officers from the Major Crash Investigation Section have charged a man as part of an investigation into an incident on Sunday 1 September 2024, in which a 50-year-old man died.

About 9:20pm, a member of the public located an unresponsive man on the road, near the intersection of Ravenswood Drive and Hillsborough Drive.

Police and St John WA personnel attended the scene, however, tragically, the 50-year-old man died at the scene.

Yesterday, Wednesday 4 September 2024, a 65-year-old man from Westminster was arrested. He has since been charged with:
- Careless driving causing death
- Driver failed to stop and ensure assistance received after incident occasioning death
- Driver fail to report an incident occasioning death

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today, Thursday 5 September 2024.

Emergency services are responding to an incident in Perth’s northern suburbs after a man became trapped underneath a truck.

St John WA received a triple-0 call just after 4.30pm, alerting them to the incident on Langar Way.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the incident is believed to have occurred at a workplace.

Firefighters freed the man from underneath the truck using hydraulic equipment in “under 10 minutes”.

The man was then assessed by paramedics.

The extent of his injuries and the circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown.

WorkSafe has been contacted for comment.

State Security Investigation Group detectives are following up several pieces of information provided by the public regarding an incident in Pinjar that resulted in a Western Power transmission tower being significantly damaged and collapsing, causing temporary power disruptions being detected on Thursday 20 April 2023.

A recent appeal for information, including the announcement of a $100,000 reward from the WA Government, resulted in several members of the community contacting Crime Stoppers with information.

As the investigation continues, detectives are seeking information regarding a white 4WD vehicle which is believed to have been in the area on Thursday 20 April 2023. It is believed there were two people in the vehicle, and it was in the area during the late afternoon, possibly between 4:00pm and 6:00pm.

Anyone with information regarding the above vehicle or its occupants, or any other people or vehicles seen in the vicinity of Buloke Road, Wandoo Road and Skink Road between 1 April and 20 April 2023, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.

The $100,000 reward remains on offer for information that leads to the identification and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the damage.
