Aurora Australis, you were so beautiful in our skies a few weeks ago.🌌

We are calling for pics from locals of this astrological event in our rohe (area).

These will run in our Winter 2024 issue, which will be on sale over the Matariki long weekend.

If you got great shots of the sky that night, especially if there are silhouettes of people in them, and would be happy for us to run them in the paper, please email them to Kylie and Sarah at [email protected]

If you can provide a short description of where you took the shots from that would be most appreciated.

Kia ora 👋...

It's nice to meet you. I'm Kylie Bailey and I feel hugely privileged to take the helm of this important community publication.

I’ve been a Piha resident for 42 years and have lived in west Auckland all my life. I moved to 48 Rayner Rd when I was one and stayed there until I was 22. Just over 10 years ago, my husband and I moved back to Piha and love living up on the ridge. I have a professional background as a journalist and editor.

I'm delighted to be working with our designer Sarah Munro and advertising manager Glenda Northey to bring you stories from Piha, Karekare and Anawhata.

We're excited to bring you a refreshed Piha Community News. This publication has been live and loud since 1983. We cover stories of Piha, Karekare and Anawhata.

Our copies are FREE for members of Piha Ratepayers & Residents, who have funded us for the next year. You can pick up your copy from the Post Office.

Or you can buy the Winter 2023 edition for just five bucks from the Piha Store, Piha Community Library, the West Coast Gallery or the Post Office.

Two days to launch... 🚀

A refreshed, new-look Piha Community News will be on newsstands from Thursday 1 June at the Piha Store, the West Coast Gallery, the Piha Community Library and the Piha Post Office. The cost is $5 an issue or if you are a member of Piha Ratepayers & Residents, your free copy will be available from the Post Office.

A group of seven residents, with professional experience in journalism and publishing, have come together to form a sub-committee to bring our beloved community newspaper back. Thanks to the Piha Ratepayers & Residents, the first year of the publication has been funded.

We'll be out four times a year, close to public holidays and long weekends, and will cover stories from Piha, Karekare and Anawhata.

The reason we've fought hard to bring back our is because it gives us a balanced voice within our communities and also to external agencies, such as Auckland Council. It's a place where we can celebrate each other and acknowledge the challenges we face together, living west of everywhere.

The first issue is a tribute to the resilience of our communities as we rebuild after Cyclone Gabrielle.

While there are too many amazing contributors to name, all have submitted words, photographs, illustrations and time to create the Winter 2023 edition.
