Capacity Building Workshop on Bio Resource Management for Marginal Tribal Communities in Border Area of Tangdar Tehsil, Dist Kupwara, J&K

Tangdar, J&K, April 12, 2023: A capacity-building workshop on bio resource management for the marginalized tribal communities in the border area, was organized by Vigyan Prasar (an autonomous organisation of Dept of Science & Technology, GoI) and SKUAST Kashmir in collaboration with Indian Army’s Youth Center, Tangdar. The program was aimed at providing region/location-specific scientific and technological interventions suitable for the marginalized community to promote sustainable livelihood options.
The interaction workshop was moderated by Dr. Bharat Bhushan and Dr. Gaurav Jain from Vigyan Prasar, and Dr. Nasir Masoodi from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST)-Kashmir. The experts shared their valuable insights and knowledge on various aspects of bio resource management, focusing on sustainable practices, conservation methods, and livelihood opportunities for the tribal communities.
Approximately 90 participants from the Gujjar and Bakarwal communities actively participated in the workshop and engaged in discussions with the experts. The participants shared their experiences, challenges, and aspirations related to bio resource management in their local areas, and sought solutions to enhance their livelihood options in a sustainable manner.
The workshop was also attended by Dr. Munir Naik, SDAO Tangdar, and Dr. Zahir Lone, AEO Tangdar, who provided their valuable guidance and inputs during the discussions. The meeting was a platform for meaningful interactions and knowledge sharing between the experts and the tribal communities, with the aim of empowering the marginalized communities with relevant and practical information.
Such capacity-building initiatives are crucial in promoting sustainable livelihood options, conserving natural resources, and improving the overall well-being of the tribal communities.
The Indian Army expressed their gratitude to the experts, attendees, and stakeholders for their active participation and contribution towards making the workshop a success. The knowledge and insights gained from the workshop are expected to have a positive impact on the marginalized communities, helping them in their pursuit of sustainable livelihoods and improved living standards.

JKUT Vice President Mahila Morcah and Sarpanch Ladhoo-A Pulwama Babita Bhat today chaired a well attended Gram Sabha at Govt Higher Secoundary School Ladhoo-A in her Panchayat area of District Pulwama.
Addressing the gathering, She said that Gram Sabhas were held in all panchayats of Pulwama district today and the objective of holding the Gram Sabhas was approval of Gram Panchayat Developmental Plan (GPDP) for financial year 2023-24. She said the GPDP is the basic platform for the holistic development of villages. This public participatory process involves full convergence of centrally sponsored schemes and UT level schemes for registering overall development at grass root level.
In her speech, Babita familiarized the people with the concept of GPDP and said that this system has revolutionized the rural economy of the Panchayat. She said gone are the days when people used to visit officers for resolving their developmental issues adding that today all officers are participating in Gram Sabhas in the Panchayats at the doorsteps of the people.

Lecture on water conservation day carried out at Chak Kigam
Indian Army organised a lecture on Water Conservation at Chak Keegam on the account of Water Conservation Day.
The event was attended by 80 locals including men, women and children and lecture was conducted by officials from PHE department. The idea behind the event was to create awareness among locals about the conservation of natural resources. Maintaining a safe and clean environment is the responsibility of mankind as the earth provides all necessities for life including water, air, trees, animals, food, soil and minerals.
The activity received an overwhelming response from the locals. They appreciated the Indian army and said such lecture will help and motivate people to conserve water which is the most precious resource.

Funding militants and recruiting module exploded in Kupwara, weapons and ammunition recovered; Police
Kupwara, Nov 9: Police on Thursday claimed to arrest militants funding and recruitment module, and also have recovered arms and ammunition from, north Kashmir's Kupwara, a police spokesperson said.
According to a statement issued to a police spokesperson said that in a major success against the perpetrators of militans in Kashmir, Kupwara Police along with Army’s 21 RR and 47 RR busted a deep-rooted militants funding and recruitment module running in North Kashmir.
“After receiving multiple inputs regarding an individual namely Bilal Ahmed Dar hailing from Cheerkote area of Kupwara district, a joint operation was launched by the Army and Kupwara police to nab the individual from general area Nutnussa and Lolab localities of Kupwara. After thorough interrogation, the individual revealed that he along with five other people from different parts of North Kashmir were running a militants funding racket under the garb of a fake NGO called “Islahi Falahi Relief Trust” (IFRT) which claimed to provide monetary assistance to poor and needy families,” said the spokesperson.
“He was actively involved in coordinating the funding for terror activities and aiding recruitment by organizing “Ijtema” meetings in different villages where he along with other members of the NGO would try and lure young people into Anti-National activities. Bilal also revealed the names of other accomplices including ‘Wahid Ahmed Bhatt’ from Kachloo, Langet, and Javed Ahmed Najar from Singhpora, Baramulla and three individuals namely Mushtaq Ahmed Najar of Brath Sopore and Bashir Ahmed Mir from Mundji area of Sopore. Another individual namely ‘Zubair Ahmed Dar’ from Cheerkote, who is Bilal’s cousin, was also actively involved in the module,” he said.
“The module was being coordinated by Pakistan based handlers to aid the operations of “Tehreek-e-ul Mujhahideen Jammu & Kashmir” (TuMJK) in North Kashmir. The modus operandi of the group was to go to different villages and conduct events and gatherings under the garb of the NGO and would collect money by asking for charity and also scout for potential soft targets as recruits,” he added.
“The accounts in the NGO’s name were being used to launder money for the TuMJK. The group was also responsible for sticking Anti-national posters around the 15th of August and during the visit of the Union Home Minister of India to Baramullah. Bilal specifically also admitted to hoisting a Pakistani flag inside Markazi Jamia Masjid Kupwara on the 14th of August on the instructions of his Pakistani handlers,” said the spokesperson.
He further added that, “the group was also actively collecting explosive materials which is known to be used in IED’s. Bilal and his associates were receiving instructions from across the border from Dr Shah Sab@ Manzoor Shah @ Gen Abdullah actually named as Ghulam Rasool Shah of Hyhama Kupwara, who is a Pakistan based militant handler, Tariq Peer actually named Mohd Sultan Peer of Sulkoot Kupwara also a Pakistan based terrorist handler, @ Yousaf Baloch , , @ Qureshi and one @ Mishtaq . Wahid Ahmed Bhatt@ Tauheed’ was the mastermind behind the recruitment and terror funding module. A huge quantity of arms, ammunition, raw material to prepare IED and incriminating material has also been recovered from all the apprehended individuals. Five pistols, Ten Magazines, 49 pistol ammunition, Two grenades and one IED.”
Moreover, “case FIR NO: 264/22 under sections 7/25 Arms Act, 13,18,20,38 UA(P) Act has been registered against all the individuals in Police Station Kupwara for further investigation.

The guidance is provided in the form of *Lecture cm Demonstration on household skill* by *Mr Shabbir Ah Bhatt, Member Healing Touch Foundation* along with his team. The four day skill development capsule is scheduled as follows:-

The mela was attended by all the Executive members of LAHDC, officers of line departments Associate Director’s, All Programme coordinators of KVK’s of Kashmir and Ladakh. An interactive session of scientists, officers and farmers was held at Hussaini Auditorium Kargil. Progressive farmers of Kargil were felicitated for their appreciable work in Agri. & Allied sectors. The farmers praised the efforts of SKUAST-K, KVKs of Kargil, Leh and Line departments in making them aware about latest technological interventions, quality seeds, protected structures which helped them to create successful clusters of vegetables / floriculture crops and many other enterprises in the district. Director Extension SKUAST Kashmir, Prof. Dil Mohammed Makdoomi in his address informed the farmers about various schemes of GOI / UT’s in agriculture and allied sectors which shall help farmers to reap benefits he also stressed on the farmers to develop niche based FPO’s for better marketing and returns for which Directorate of Extension is ready to help them in formulating the FPO’s. The Chief Guest Alhaj Feroz Ahmad Khan CEC on the occasion praised the efforts of SKUAST-K in making possible this mega event which is first of its kind ever conducted at Kargil and requested that the collaborative programmes and technological support provided by SKUAST Kashmir should continue in order to make Kargil and Leh self-sufficient in various agricultural sectors. The event was attended by more than 200 farmers including rural youth, farm women and young entrepreneurs. The farmers were happy for conducting such an event at Kargil and requested for more such programmes in future also. The programme was concluded by vote of thanks bt Programme Coordinator KVK Kargil.
Chief General manger(CGM) NABARD Shri. Dr. A K Sood visited the District Kupwara on 21st September 2022 for inauguration and interaction with the Bangus Dairy Farmers Producer Organization Promoted by NABARD and HELP Foundation in district Kupwara. The CGM was accompanied by DGM NABARD Shri Surinder Singh and DDM NABARD Shri Zubair Ashraf Wasil. The visit was to inaugurate the Office Premise of the Bangus Valley Dairy Farmer Organization(FPO) and the processing dairy plant of the FPO in district Kupwara.
Talking to media persons, CGM NABARD Dr. A K Sood highlighted the emphasis of Farmer Producer Organization and told that FPO’s aim is to enhance farmer’s competitiveness and increase their advantage in emerging market opportunities. FPO’s are catering the forward and backward linkages of the farmers and help them to organize in its sector. Recognizing the strength of Producer organization, NABARD created a dedicated fund “Producer organization development fund(PODF) during 2011, to support FPO in credit facilitation, capacity building and market linkages.
Later, CGM inaugurates the Mobile Rural Mart of the Bangus Valley Dairy FPO supported by NABARD in district Kupwara. The Mobile Mart will help the dairy FPO to cater the market at each corner of the district and help the dairy farmers to organize.
CGM NABARD Dr. A K Sood appreciate the work of Dairy FPO working in district Kupwara and congratulate them on achieving the business turnover of Rs. 38.00 lakh during 01st year of operation. He also appreciates the members of the FPO to use the FPO as a tool to organize themselves and to gain the market opportunity through FPO.
The event was also attended by the District Animal Husbandry Officer Kupwara, Project Officer HELP Foundation, and Board of Directors of the Bangus Valley Dairy FPO were also present on the occasion.
The event concluded with Vote of thanks from CEO Bangus Valley dairy FPO and Project Coordinator HELP Foundation for kind support of NABARD in implementation of Dairy FPO in the District Kupwara.

The field day was conducted in the grape field of Mr. Abdul Rahim Bhat, progressive grape farmer. The programme was graced by Mr. Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, ex MLA Ganderbal and Prof. (Dr.) Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension SKUAST-K. Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head KVK Ganderbal emphasized the importance of grapes for Ganderbal district and guided the farmers about the proper management practices for export oriented grape production. On the occasion, it was discussed that the OFT conducted by KVK Ganderbal on Hen & Chicken disorder in grapes revealed promising results in the management of the disorder. Similar results have been obtained for OFT on disease management by using foliar spray conducted by KVK Ganderbal in Repora. *One Day Workshop & Awareness cm Capacity Building/Skill Development among Scheduled Tribes of Kashmir* Shakir bhat Srinagr 29 July 2022 One Day Workshop (29-07-22)“Awareness cm Capacity Building/Skill Development among Scheduled Tribes of Kashmir was conducted under Vigyan Prasar ,DST Govt. of India Sponsored project for socio economic upliftment of Scheduled tribes was organized by Division of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture SKUAST K Shalimar. The aim of the workshop was to sanitize ST’s of five districts viz Srinagar,Ganderbal,Kupwara, Baramulla Bandipora and Bandipora regarding the scope of bioresource management for sustainable livelihood security. The programme is collaborative programme of Vigyan Prasar(autonomous body of DST) and funded by SEED Division of DST Govt of India. The Inaugural was enlighted by the presence of Vice Chancellor SKUAST K Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai along with Director Research Prof . Sarfraz A Wani,Prof M A A Siddique Dean Students Welfare, Shabir Ahmad Wani Dean Facluty of Horticulture and other Heads of the divisions. Besides this Dr K B Bhushan Scientist E Vigyan Prasar attended through virtual Mode from New Delhi. Vice Chancellor SKUAST K Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai shared his words of wisdom regarding bioresource management for sustainable development of tribal area and scope of progress as far as sustainable livelihood security is concerned. Prof M A A Siddique shared his views on Kashmir Himalayan floral wealth and its importance in livelihood security. Director Research Prof. Sarfraz A Wani thrusted on institutional role in bioresource management. Welcome and vote of thanks was delivered by Dr I T Nazki and Prof Shabir A Wani. The programme was followed by exposure visit of participants to research and propagation units of Division of FLA ,Division of Fruit science and other units with an aim for better understanding of scientific means of propagation and production. DDC Chairperson Baramulla along DDC's inaugurates Shova-Kharma road & Medical Lab in PHC Tujjer for Public. Sopore , June : The District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson Baramulla , Ms Safeena Beigh Saturday visited Zangeer area and inaugurated Shiva Kharma Road. She was accompanied by DDC Tujjer Mohd Muzaffar, DDC Zaingeer Shah Jahan , EXN Pmgsy IQRAM UL HAK KHAN, AEE Pmgsy IRFAN SHAFI PARAY, JE Pmgsy Ajaz Ahmad Beigh,Director T. S construction Engineers pvt ltd Shafat un nabi and Sarpanch, Panchs and local Auqaf members. The DDC Chairman said that the government is committed to fulfill the genuine demands of the people and the PRIs should bring public demands and issues in notice of administration for their timely redressal. Beigh also inspected a number of ongoing developmental works in the area. She made an on spot assessment of the progress and quality of these works. Interacting with the locals, the DDC Chairman impressed upon them to chalk out and formulate developmental and welfare plans in tune with their aspirations and needs. She said the government has empowered the PRIs by involving them in development and other activities at grassroots level. Later, Safeena Beigh visited Ziyarat Sharief Tujjer and PHC Tujjer Sharif where She Ingurated Public Park and Medical Lab in presence of DDC's & BMO Sopore. She instructed the medical staff to be regular and punctual in their duties. She took feedback from the patients about the availability of facilities.
NABARD holds a workshop on Agri-Clinic & Agri-Business in collaboration with FOA Skuast-K Wadura. Shakir bhat Sopore 25 May 2022 NABARD in Collaboration with Skuast Kashmir Wadura on Wednesday organized a daylong workshop on Government of India Scheme on "Agri Clinic and Agri Business Centres-ACABCs" at SKUAST, Wadoora. The workshop was aimed to sensitize agriculture and horticulture graduates for establishment of Agri-Clinics and Agri-Business Centres. Dean Faculty of Agriculture (FOA) Dr Rahiana Habib Kanth was chief Guest on this occasion. Addressing the workshop District Manager NABARD, Zubair Wasil said that the purpose of ACABCs was to support agriculture development besides creating gainful employment for agriculture graduates and extending extension services to farmers. He said that the loans for an amount of 20 lakh to 100 lakhs could be sanctioned for setting up these units under ACABC scheme. Giving more details about the various activities by NABARD in the field of Agriculture, DDM NABARD, DS Zubair Wasil said that NABARD has set up various funds for various activities under farming such as Farmer Technology Fund, Farmer Innovation Technology Fund for various modern farming techniques and crop practices. Besides this he also gave brief information about various Government Sponsored Schemes being implemented by NABARD. The detailed PowerPoint presentations on ACABC were given by scientists and subject matter experts from SKUAST. The workshop was attended by a large number of Agricultural Graduates and progressive farmers of Baramulla district.All the district officers from Agriculture, Horticulture Department were present on the occasion, besides the district coordinators of Lead Bank, also attended the workshop. Mega Block level Health Mela held at Bomai Sopore Sopore: 26 April Shakir bhat Following the directions of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India, the Deptt of Health & FW Medical Block Sopore today organized a day long Mega Block level Health Mela cm Awareness Programme at Public Health Community Center Bomai Sopore. The mega camp was inaugurated by Worthy CMO Baramulla Dr Bashir Ahmad , BMO Sopore Dr Zulafkar , Tehsildar Bomai Mohd Shafi , DDC Zaingeer Muzaffer Ah , BDC Sopore Dr Farida Khan, SHO Bomai Imtiyaz Ahmad, Ab Hamid Bhat Pharmacists,Manzoor Ah Lone Pharmacists and various sarpanches, PRIs, ASHAs, Anganwadi Workers, Staff from Health Deptt and other allied departments, besides, students from various schools were present on the occasion. BMO Sopore said that the mela was organized to educate the general public and to generate mass awareness about the various health schemes including online registration of Ayushman Bharat (Golden Cards), NCD screening, Mental Health activities like yoga and meditation etc. On this occasion, different stalls were put up by health department and other allied departments viz AYUSH Department, One Stop Centre, ICPS, e-Sanjeevni, Ayushman Bharat, RBSK Screening and general health check up. While speaking on the occasion chief medical officer Baramulla advised the young participants to concentrate in their studies so that they can actively participate in the nation building, asks them to keep themselves away from the drug menace and urged them to support the district police to eradicate the menace of drugs from the district in order to become the drug free district. SKUAST-Kashmir Directorate of Extension held seed distribution programme at Chunt Waliwar Shakir Bhat Directorate of Extension SKUAST-K organized a mega Maize Seed distribution programme for high altitude area of Ganderbal. Director Extension Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi distributed high yielding hybrid maize seed among the farmers at village Chunt Waliwar Tehsil Lar District Ganderbal today on 19th April, 2022. The programme was held under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai. Scientists of Directorate of Extension, DDC member Mrs. Zaituna Begam and Ruksana Banoo Present Mahasaba were also present on the occasion. Two quintals of Hybrid Maize seed was distributed free of cost by Director Extension Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomin among 50 beneficiaries and literature regarding the cultivation of maize was also distributed among the farmers with an aim to promote economic, nutritional and food security besides providing energy rich maize, it would offer fodder for livestock of the region Director Extension Prof Dil Mohammad Makdoomi in his address said that the Hybrid variety of Maize has more yield as compared to the varieties of farmers sowing previously and also gave awareness to the farmers about the adherence to guidelines by which they can achieve more yield. Expert lecture on “Impact of climate change factors on crops & opportunities to enhance resilience of Agri-food systems” delivered at Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-K Shakir bhat April 13 2022 An expert lecture on ‘Impact of climate change factors on crops & opportunities to enhance resilience of Agri-food systems’ was organized under NEHEP-SKUAST-K by the Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura on April 13, 2022 in the conference hall. Prof. Raihana H. Kanth, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture welcomed the speaker Prof. (Dr.) P. V. Vara Prasad, Distinguished Professor, Crop Ecophysiology and Director of Feed the Future Sustainable Intensification Innovation Lab (Agronomy Department) at Kansas State University, USA. Dr Parvaiz A. Sofi introduced the guest speaker, highlighting his glorious research achievements mainly focused on understanding responses of food grain crop to changing environments (temperature, water and climate change factors), screening germplasm collections for tolerance to abiotic stresses, determining physiological basis of tolerance and developing crop, soil, water and nutrient management strategies for efficient use of resources. In his lecture Prof. (Dr.) P. V. Vara Prasad has discussed about the consequences of climatic changes on the environment. According to him, although modification of climatic condition is triggered by natural factors but the intervention of humans accelerated this process. So he has promoted the sustainable development which means development but not on the cost of destruction of natural environment. He added that better understanding the interactions between various climatic change factors on nutritional composition is needed to address nutritional security. Interaction of climate change factors with biotic pests (e.g., diseases, insects and weeds) and on host plant susceptibility is essential to quantify the overall impact on crop productivity. A one day veterinary clinical camp, awareness programme about the vaccinations and interaction meet with District institute of education and training (DIET) was organised by KVK Bandipora at village Qudra. The programme was organised under the instructions of Hon’ble SKAUST-K, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai. Director extension Prof Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi visited the area along with Deputy Director Sheep husbandry and a few NGO’s were also involved in the said awareness programme. A door to door interaction was held by director extension in the area to create awareness among the farming community with regard to Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). He emphasized the need and importance of veterinary diagnostic services in reducing the pain and suffering of animal which have a direct bearing on the livestock productivity and economics. On this occasion an interaction meet was also conducted with DIET in order to encourage rural youth for establishment of their own income generating enterprises. Thereafter medicines and different fodder varieties of maize were distributed among the farmers.
