UPDATE: S.R. 56 is now open.

TRAFFIC ALERT: S.R. 56 is currently closed at K***z Rd. near Hanover (Jefferson County) due to a crash. Avoid the area and seek an alternate route.

Just a little heads up I messaged INDOT about the rumored center turn lane on highway 31 (Gardner Street) just like they did on 56 and here's the answer I got... They start the week of August 15th shrinking it down to one lane in each direction with the center turn lane and paving that stretch. Also looked at future projects on INDOT and the roundabout for 56 and Boatman road is still on either for next year or the year after, and there's also a new roundabout proposed for 31 and 356/Leota Rd at Vienna Church and the Dollar General in the next few years as well.

Motorists should anticipate lane closures and flagging on S.R. 56 in Jefferson and Scott Counties starting next week as crews begin work on an asphalt resurface project. 🚘‼️ Overnight alternating lane closures on I-65 NB and SB will begin on or after Monday, August 1, for bridge joint replacement and repair over Muscatatuck Overflow in Scott County. Pennsylvania Man Killed in Crash on I-65
Scott County - July 28, 2022: A commercial driver from Pennsylvania was killed in a tragic single-vehicle crash on Thursday evening.
Around 7:15 Thursday evening, Troopers from the Indiana State Police (ISP), first responders, and deputies with the Scott County Sheriff's Department responded to a single-vehicle crash on southbound I-65 at the 34-mile-marker near Austin, Indiana. Once on-scene, officers found a maroon 2022 Freightliner had traveled into the median and collided head-on with the bridge support for the SR 256 overpass. The driver, 53-year-old Brian Bayne, of Bakerstown, Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Scott County Coroner's office.
Trooper Tate Rohlfing, an ISP crash reconstruction specialist, was called to the scene to continue the investigation. Evidence at the scene and information gathered during the investigation suggest that a tire failure could have contributed to the crash. In addition, officers called an Indiana state bridge inspector to examine any possible damage to the overpass. SR 256 and the southbound lanes of I-65 were closed during the investigation. Both roadways are now open.
This crash is still under investigation. Officers from the Scott County Sheriff's Department, the Jennings Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Scott County Ambulance Service, and the Scott County Coroner's Office assisted troopers at the scene.

Deceased Female found-

Here's what was going on out by county line road yesterday that had the 31 bypass closed..
Scott County-On 7-31-2022, Scott County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a location on County Line Road in Southern Scott County in reference to a deceased female. Upon arrival, Deputies located the deceased, later identified as Ashley Deaton-Hedge, 34 of Louisville, KY. Detective Lieutenant John Hartman and Detective First Sergeant Jacklyn Shofner of the Sheriff's Office responded to the location and are conducting the death investigation. Assistance at the scene was provided by Indiana State Police Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Sergeant Merritt Toomey. The next of kin of the deceased has been notified. This is an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.

Further response from INDOT after I sent some additional questions to the response from a week or two ago.
Dear Mr. Jones,
Thank you again for contacting the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) with your additional questions regarding where traffic is expected to be detoured if there is a wreck on I-65 between Henryville and Scottsburg, as well as information regarding the construction that was taking place on the S.R. 56 overpass.
Our construction team has reported that there is an emergency strategy in place, and they are working closely with state law enforcement officials as well as emergency service providers in order to determine the best course of action and travel routes dependent on the location of where a possible emergency event takes place. In the event of an emergency, truck traffic could be directed to utilize I-265 to S.R. 62 to S.R. 3 to S.R. 56. All other traffic will be able to use Radio Tower Road to South Underwood Road to S.R. 356, which is the unofficial detour route for the project, but they will also be encouraged to utilize the I-265 to S.R. 62, to S.R. 3 to S.R. 56 alternate route as well. Due to mechanical breakdowns and weather complications, the construction on the S.R. 56 overpass was unable to be completed as expected. The contractor is currently finishing up a polymeric overlay which is epoxy and aggregate. Temporary striping and barricades were put in place in order to maintain traffic through this area. Contractors have reported that striping and slope repair will take place this week, weather dependent.
