On 3/29/2020 at 11:45PM, CalFire/Riverside County Fire Department received reports of residential structure fire in 26000 Block of Pueblo Vista Way in the City of Moreno Valley. A full structure response was sent to the scene.

First arriving resources reported seeing a two story single family residence with smoke showing from the second story. All units were requested to continue to the scene. Shortly thereafter, the incident commander reported that the residence was an illegal grow facility. At that time he requested the notification of a prevention officer. Riverside County Sheriff's Department arrived on scene to secure the area for the investigation to follow.

The fire engulfed about 1/4 of the roof with extension into the attic. Firefighters knocked down the flames in about 1 hour. An extensive overhaul and mop up was performed so investigators could secure the residence and perform their investigation.

FATAL INJURY TRAFFIC COLLISION

RIVERSIDE, CA - On Sunday, March 29, 2020, at approximately 4:18 a.m., Riverside Police and Fire responded to Pachappa Drive and Jurupa Avenue reference a major injury traffic collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 1999 Infiniti G20, being driven by a 21-year-old Riverside resident, was traveling east on Jurupa Ave. when it failed to negotiate the curve at Pachappa Dr., hitting a stop sign and a light pole. The passenger succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver showed objective symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. Harrison Mendoza, 21-years-old of Riverside, was treated for his injuries and booked into the county jail for gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI.

Officers from the Riverside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) were called to the scene and are currently investigating.
