Thunderstorms are a risk across most of Victoria today, consisting of two main bands of activity. Storms have already been observed over central, northeastern and western areas and this activity will increase during the morning before gradually moving eastwards to over the North East and East Gippsland during the mid-afternoon. The second band of thunderstorms is expected across the central districts and North East district during the afternoon and evening.
Severe thunderstorms are a significant risk with heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts the most likely severe phenomena. Thunderstorm organisation in the form of supercells is also possible, particularly with the second band of thunderstorms over central districts. Supercell storms may produce damaging to locally destructive winds and large hail.
Please note that a Severe Weather Warning is current for heavy rainfall and damaging winds over central and eastern areas.
There is a slight chance of thunderstorms about the South West coast during the evening that have the potential to produce localised damaging wind gusts.
