We happened to bump into another Sydney based anime podcast at Smash back in August and we figured we simply had to have a chat.

We talk about our anime backstories, as well as our gateway anime (of course). However we also get amongst the lifestyle aspect of the Besto Friendo’s Podcast and talk about why we do what we do and how we came to be doing it.

31/10/2022

The gang get together to talk through the STACKED Fall 2022 anime season. There are so many shows this season that we can barely keep up.

Sam talks about some returning old favourites, one of which is part of the original big three and man does it look good. Nostalgia firing on all cylinders. He also goes through one of his favourites in Mob Psycho 100 S3 as well as the weird and original in Golden Kamuy S4 and To You Eternity S2.

Graeme talks about two of the big original shows to be airing in Chainsaw Man and Blue Lock as well as a bit of a fresh take on the Gundam series.

Charlie talks through some more returning favourites in Spy X Family and My Hero Academia S6 and she also talks briefly with the gang about the unexpected surprise Netflix hit Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Absolutely incredible season of anime this season.

17/10/2022

The gang get together to talk about all things Horror in the anime/manga world. Graeme tackles one of the most revered horror mangakas of all time, the legendary Junji Ito. Charlotte gets obscure with Ghost Hunt and Sam reveals his scaredy cat nature (not a horror fan) but talks through one of his favourites in Parasyte: The Maxim.

26/09/2022

Sam interviews Ty Hanson, the creator of the Australian anime project Millennium Exile.

Sam and Ty talk about the origin of the project, his ambitions moving forward and some of the influences which inspired the project.

We of course talk about Ty's initial gateway to anime along with how he came to love the medium and Sam and Ty bond over their mutual mutual love of JRPG's.

We have an interesting conversation about what the term anime means in a modern context, the continual progression of cross cultural collaboration and why the future of the animation industry is so bright.

We went to Melbourne for ! We’ve tagged some of the amazing people we met. Please let us know if we’ve missed anyone!

This was the first Crunchyroll Expo in Australia and it wasn't without its hiccups. We were sorry to hear about the capacity issues that left people unable to get in and the general handling of the situation. We were fortunate enough to get in and made the decision to proceed with content highlighting the incredible cosplayers, artists and local anime fans that we met throughout the weekend. We hope that everyone was able to make the most of their weekend in Melbourne and that situations like this can be avoided in the future.

In our Summer Anime Season episode, we dive into how anime tactically uses art styles, often subverting heavy themes & brutal dramatic moments. Made in Abyss uses the Moe art style to present a cute world that is undercut by its confronting content.

A soccer anime (football anime says Graeme) that kicks goals by actually being about soccer (football), welcoming audiences into the high stakes world of a professional academy where hopefuls vie to be the best and make it to the big time! The sleeper hit of the Spring 2022 season. Ao Ashi is far more than initially meets the eye.

If you love sport anime you’ll love this and if your tried of waiting on Blue Lock to air this will fill that void easily!

"There is no such thing as "truth" or "lies" in this world; there never has been. There are only plain, hard facts. And yet, all beings who exist in this world acknowledge only those "facts" that are convenient to them, and take them to be the "truth". They do so because they know no other way of living. However, for those powerless beings who comprise the majority of this world's population, inconvenient facts that affirm their very existence, are their only truth”

Serial experiments lain. Strange things start happening when a withdrawn girl
named Lain becomes obsessed with an interconnected virtual realm known as "The Wired". A young girl's reluctant march toward digital martyrdom. Today, Lain's story resonates more so as an allegory about the perils of forging one's identity—an alternative identity, however false, misguided, perverse, delusional—using the internet.

The story is deep, well thought out, and very entertaining throughout. The characters develop perfectly, the atmosphere is incredible, and the story is flawless. Some of the story is left slightly open ended, leaving the viewer to fill in his or her own conclusions.

One year after Kentaro’s death Berserk will continue under the supervision of the authors close friend and mangaka Kouji Mori. The publisher Young animal released the following statement about the upcoming arcs.

"Before his passing, Kentaro Miura spoke to his close friend Kouji Mori about the stories and episodes he had in mind for Berserk," Young Animal Editing Department's statement reads. "He also had similar talks with his studio staff and editor. He wondered, would everyone be surprised if I drew something like this? How about a character like this? Would this storyline be interesting? The talks were not meant as his last words but were a part of his ordinary days as a Manga artist.

"We were reluctant to end his story without sharing these with his fans. Our hope is for everyone to read the last episode that we have put together, until the very last frame."

How do you feel about the continuation of the series? Let us know in the comments.
