Downtown Music Hub Music Business Incubator

Downtown Music Hub goes beyond being just a recording facility. It is dedicated to supporting the growth and development of professionals within the music industry value chain, including artists, producers, writers, engineers, and more. The primary goal of the Hub is to uplift the professional skills and capabilities of individuals involved in the music industry.

The core objectives of the incubator programme are:
1) to develop music industry entrepreneurs by providing them with adequate skills and support to participate within all activities and functions of the music industry value chain
2) enable music industry entrepreneurs involved in the programme to commercialize their content and music productions with the aim of optimizing the potential revenue from their content and services.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the ever-changing music industry, the opportunity to connect with key industry players and:

1) Back office support in order to comply with government institutions and funders
2) Access to Downtown Music Hub facilities including studios, rehearsals and office space at preferential rates
3) Profit from the knowledge and expertise of experienced music industry professionals
4) Network and discover the different revenue streams within the music industry
5) Access to festivals, conferences and showcases
6) Access to media, including radio, print, online and television
7) Benefit from a unique framework to develop their ideas and/or enhance your product or service
8) Network and discover the different African markets

Next year seems promising.

This year has been a long and productive year from our side. We have seen our stable release a very good tape,YSO , and singles . Which got great receipt from the public since this was his debute project. We've went on to work with many artists this year to ensure that we grow our art and business. This has brought so much creative awareness in both the arts and business, and will help us achieve our goals in the following year and years. Importantly we have created relationships outside our natural circle.

In the last quarter of the year we've had good engagement to the services we offer and have been able to approach one of our core goals (we take this as a belief). We have been able to give recording access to small town artists and enabled them to have good quality. We have been able to assist them in taking direction towards their craft.

Throughout the year we've been involved in the which is a program for Entrepreneurs involved in the Arts business. With hardship, patience, sleepless nights, tolerance and hard work we were able to complete the program and graduate. We've learned a lot from BASA and The Debut Programme and trust we will be able to carry the knowledge and skills offered forward.

This is a win from our side, this is growth, this is the beginning of many ends. With many set backs and bounce backs we have seen ourselves take strides that are pleasing and jump hurdles that were suppose to stop our fighting spirit. In these tough unusual times that are now the new normal times we've done more then relatively well. We would like to thank everyone that has supported us in every way. You are contributing to our success which is your success to. Thank you! Be safe and enjoy your festive season. Next year is promising as long as it is not in the past.

Free State protoje drops 4th single of the year.

After having unexpected success with his debut full body project, YSO is ready to drop more music. The "Sauce man" himself announced the release of his new single called Gateway Drug on Sunday the 22nd of August.

The 23 year old musician promises his listeners soothing music with some treats for hardcore hip hop fans. "Gateway Drug is a song about getting your first real high off love and happiness.", says YSO. It is a creative take on expressing affection for a loved one, something the young artist confesses to doing best on a song as he has always struggled to communicate his emotions. It is his 4th single of 2021 and he aims to stay consistent as he has gained a considerable amount of attention from music lovers around the country who are always hungry for more. The single "Gateway Drug" is set to join Baddie, If I Fall, Chandelier etc. as one of the artists most loved tunes.

The song features former member of 057s legendary hip hop group TRAIN MUSIC and is mixed and mastered by Kroonstad native Breed XI. The song and it's creation prove the value of Free State's depth in talent and it's potential to form a lucrative music industry. It was recorded and engineered at Lvngley Studio, a division of the creative agency Lvngley(Pty)Ltd. The agency also provided the marketing and administrative services on this musical effort.

"Gateway Drug" will be available on Soundcloud for free streaming as of 22 August 2021. Stream it, along with more of YSOs music on the platform.

Press Release – YSO drops debut full-body project SAUCE MAN EP

Virginia, Friday, 30 April 2021 – 23 Year old Free State Artist; YSO drops his debut full-body project Sauce Man. The 7 track hip hop project is available for streaming here: https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/fzx9L , and it features his leading single Chandelier that was released earlier this year.

The EP boasts a trap sound, with soulful melodies, and lyricism. It was produced by YSO and Mizu Rashi of Lvngley, a creative agency from Virginia.

On what he hopes to achieve with this EP, he says "Making music for me is like capturing my essence, so I realise things about myself in my songs... that I didn't even realize when I was writing”, and he hopes that his music "evokes the same feeling to other people, the people who will listen it to it".
