A year ago told me to join my local fish club. That it was important. That basically started everything for me. Tonight I did my first aquascaping presentation at and it went better than I thought!! So thank you 🙏 next time we’ll fill it with water

I can't tell you how many times I've gone into a new build with no idea of what I was planning on coming out with, or with just a random jumble of plants that i didn't really think too hard about when purchasing and almost inevitably what happens? I hate the outcome.

Sometimes I can’t decide if I like the culls more than the fire reds.

I’m sure the camera is part of it but the stripes and patterns you can get with these “undesirables” sometimes blows my mind.

Not to mention the fact that you can see a baby in the background

There’s about to be a ton of shrimp in this tank ✌️

Nature is inspiration 👇

The chaos of nature is what makes it Beautiful

The water is rarely perfectly clear and the deep brown from silt or the stain of the tannins can sometimes add to the beauty

Today we went out and spent some time in the woods

And I kept finding myself thinkin “I could make a glass box like that” 🤣🤣🤣

Tell me what I should do with this👇

Everyday I stop and stare at this 3 gallon jar for a while 🤔

And I think that’s what’s needed when creating a new scape

Not just rushing into it, throwing whatever I have in it and calling it a day for some content.

I’m always unhappy with the outcome when I do that, I always end up tearing it down and re doing the whole thing

So this time we wait, and everyday I stare at it for a while lol 👐

What’s your angle? ⬇️

Like most things, you rarely stare at a fish tank head on.

Sure you do sometimes or you catch a glance while walking by but most of the time when you see something, it’s at an angle.

And that’s what makes it look real, that’s what breathes life into it.

I try to catch all the different angles of my tanks, to give them life.

To bring them into reality. ✌️

The reef tank was boring me.

There wasn’t enough stuff‼️😅

So on top of pickin up a pair of these UV glasses from I also re-scaped the whole tank with rock from and some new zoas I got from them and this past weekend at the Aquatic Bash.

With all the extra caves it looks like the fish are as happy with it as I am!

I’ll be bored again in a few months 🤣✌️

Lighting can make all the difference 🙌

The 2 tanks with the pendant lights over them just have WiFi smart bulbs lighting them

Initially I went with regular 60w equivalent bulbs but they weren’t bright enough so I switched to PAR38 outdoor spotlight bulbs and man what a difference

The colors pop more and and the spectrum looks a lot better, I can actually see my fish 😅😅

Any diy project takes a little trial and error and it looks like the plants are loving the new spectrum as much as I do 🌱🙌

Sometimes I’m amazed at what a cheap clip on macro lens from Amazon can do, the detail in the leaves of this parrot feather plant 🌱

I’m gonna use this plant in more scapes for sure ✌️

This Dwarf Parrot Feather is officially my new favorite plant 🌱

The bubbles on the leaves are called “pearls” and when it’s Pearling that means it’s creating oxygen

It’s happy 😊

The light on this tank is not super bright right now but it’s pearling anyway and the detail in the leaves make it look like a tiny forest when up close

Part of me wants to do an all parrot feather tank but I should probably cool it with the tanks for a little bit 😅

I’m excited to see how this grows in ✌️

Spotted the first Blue Ghost Sulawesi baby 🦐 👇

The mother has been trying for a while. First batch of eggs she dropped the same day, the second batch she lost a few while molting but it looks like some of them hatched first

This is normal, a first time shrimp mom has to learn how to hold the eggs for the entire pregnancy, constantly fanning them with water to keep them oxygenated and free of fungus or debris.

It’s a busy job but someone’s gotta do it

The crazy thing is the same day I found this guy I also noticed she is berried again‼️

So far there’s at least 2 berried fire reds in this tank and they’re really liking the algae built up on the wall

Within the next few weeks this tank will have a whole host of new inhabitants and from then on the sky’s the limit

The “culls” as they’re called will be placed in the new tanks that were just set up to live out their lives as the “undesireables”…

Well, not to to us, to us they’re beautiful and every bit as important as the others

The low tech planted aquarium.

Planted tanks can be as easy as you want them to be or as hard as you want them to be, this tank is somewhere in the middle.
The plants are all relatively easy to care for, it’s full of Golden Lloydiella, Hygrophila Compacta, a touch of red Cardinalis, some Italian Val and some Bucephelandra mixed about.

The final scape ended up giving it a forest into beachy vibe which wasn’t intended but I really like the way it came out

It is NOT co2 injected and the lighting isn’t all that powerful but the planted portion is close to a window so lighting shouldn’t be an issue.

Some Duckweed did hitch hike it’s way in but it’s a welcomed addition as there will eventually be shrimp in this tank so the duckweed should help keep nitrates low while also outcompeting any algae that should pop up along the way

Only time will tell.
I’m excited to see where this one goes

The Black Water Aquarium.

It’s an aquired taste. Some people don’t like the tea colored tint to the water that is caused by the tannins and humic substances as they leach out of the various botanicals left to decay in the tank.

I myself think it looks beautiful, especially when the suns rays from a near by window pierce through the water

The humic substances have also been proven to have a positive effect on the fauna in the tank. Studies have shown their antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Personally, I did it more for the look than anything else

The roots coming down from the Pothos almost mimic the roots of a fallen tree in a stream

A few months ago I started putting all the most beautiful Sulawesi Shrimp babies I could find into one tank, it’s really starting to pay off, this is what humane culling looks like 🦐

Two things bother me in this pic.
1- this tank can be utilized much better
2- this bay window can be utilized much better

To that end, I think it’s time for a change. This tank will be coming down in the next couple of weeks and 2 more will take its place. Smaller but better. More natural, more beautiful. More Shrimp Stuff™️

Happy New year from Zeke & Toni!! 🎊

They’ve been trying for a few months now and we’re gettin closer and closer each time. With each let down we learn a little more.

We’re gonna do this, maybe this round or maybe with a later batch. Either way it’s gonna happen and then I’m sure something else will pop up and we’ll just have to conquer that too.

2023 is the year of overcoming set backs. The year of growth and the year of Discus babies!!
